what is it and when should you use it?

what is the difference between being discerning and being judgmental?

why do some people equate being critical of their words and theology as slander and attack upon their person?

how do you spot the wolves?

How do you avoid injuring the new babies in Christ or placing stumbling blocks before others?

what is True doctrine and what is False? who is the judge?

Discerning of spirits must be done by the power of the Holy Spirit. His sheep know His voice, if someone is not
led by the spirit of God, something in our spirit should warn us. Pray and ask God for wisdom and insight.
We should not judge some one for being confused, but gently warn them with words of truth and love.
Love the man, hate the sin. Some times...I feel led to pray and not convict. Lead with God's word and pray for His light to shine in their life. Be a sunrise...not a spot light...we don't want to blind them with too much truth at once.

“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.” 1 John 4:1

Shekaniah said it , disernment is given by the Holy Spirit.
Anything said or born of self when spoken to another in judgement, is not of Jesus.
To often many quote correction in speaking to another, yet when one reads the scriptures there are many more scriptures that speak to edification and supporting one's brothers and sisters in Jesus.
It saddens one sometimes the lack of this in Jesus, here in bible study forum.
Yes , a plant must be pruned, but it needs water more often.

God bless.

We judge all that we can know.....we dont ever judge what we cant know.
discernment isnt a subjective feeling...then calling it spiritual or a gift.
Discernment starts with the word always. Hebrews 5:14

The difference between being discerning and critical is that discerning
is commanded and critical better be how good you discern....to be critical as
in picking folks apart well we know thats not out of love so its forbidden.

Judgemental is a word used usually in a negative way meaning just finding fault
in others and seeing them in a bad way.....forbidden also and will cause alot of
damage to the person doing it as well as the harm to others.

Although noone likes to be treated rudely in the forums when anyone makes a statement
about the bible publically then it has to be tested publically...and should be..respectfully.
If they cant hack it then they can leave.

Wolfs expose themselves after held up to scripture...they will never learn...back down
they will mutate...they will never be reproved or corrected and they always attack the finished work
of Christ His nature or a major part of the christian walk.

About babes? encourage them ...love them....feed them...protect them...like with any babe.
Play with them...they like that. Make em laugh. They will get bobos dont worry...they have to learn.

What is true doctrine...doctrine just means teachings...who is the judge? we all are..every Christian is.
So we have to study and be careful what we teach.

But you knew all that Anandya :)...i just stopped by to say:

True discernment is when you try them with scripture.

Acts 17:11
Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica,
for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

1 Corinthians 2:15
The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one.

John 7:24
Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.

2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking,
correcting and training in righteousness.

2Tim 4:2-4
Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine;
but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

PS: i apologize for posting garbage in my previous thread, i am truly sorry if i have offended anyone here on CC. Next time ill think twice before posting stuff

Discernment is not just hearing from Holy Spirit as to the presence of an evil spirit, it is also the receiving of information as to WHY it is there, HOW it got there...WHAT the open door is. Mature Christians can recognize the work of an evil demon just by the behavior of the person it is operating through. But true discernment is the Holy Spirit revealing more that just identifying it. Discernment is given so that WE can act! So that we can pray, intercede, bind, muzzle, gag and take authority over...AND so we can minister to the PERSON, freedom, salvation, and loose them into the destiny that He created them for. It is a Gift with a PURPOSE.

Yes but true discernment comes from knowing the word and growing in knowledge to teach, correct and to rebuke.

Discernment is given by knowledge of the word so that we don't fall into deception and believe a lie.

Discernment is something we learn.

Hebrews 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Discernment is required at times.

1 Corinthians 11:29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.

We cannot discern with the natural man the things of God.

1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

We need to practice discernment. It is required at times that we be discerning. We cannot discern with the natural man but we must discern with our spiritual man the things of God.

Discerment requires transformation.

Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove1381 (discern) what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

We must discern ourselves.

2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves whether ye be in the faith; prove1381(discern) your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

We must be transformed by salvation and the Scripture, which is the washing of the water of the Word. 2 Corinthians 13:5 tells us to discern ourselves. 1381 is the same Greek word used for discern. God wants us to discern not only other people but to spiritualy discern ourselves at times.

Lol. My wife calls them boo boos. My mom calls them boonies. I'll have to look it up in my Man Rule Book but I don't think we're allowed to call them by those titles unless in the presence of our wives and/or moms...

Re: Cronjecj Discernment is a GIFT from Holy Spirit as well as knowledge:
Psalm 119:66
Teach me good discernment and knowledge, For I believe in Your commandments.
Psalm 119:65-67 (in Context) Psalm 119 (Whole Chapter)
Proverbs 2:3
For if you cry for discernment, Lift your voice for understanding;
Proverbs 2:2-4 (in Context) Proverbs 2 (Whole Chapter)
10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, (2 Cor 12:10)
One is not likely to tap into the Holy Spirit UNLESS they are diligently in the word of God.

Jesus told His followers to be as wise as serpents, but as gentle as lambs
