There is no mention of original sin in the Bible. That's the brainchild of Augustine - generated centuries after Christ. Gus took a rather sophomoric embryonic theory (known earlier as "ancestral sin") and massaged it into a dazzling theological premise. But Augustine, unfortunately, got it wrong because he failed to take into consideration new evidence affecting the Genesis rendition of what really transpired in the Garden of Eden.

Here, at long last, is the archaeological scoop of the century, as related in this month's Archaeological Digest, in the startling expose written by Yuri Rosenblatt Ph.D, professor at Tel Aviv University.

Among the recent findings in the Mesopotamian hinterlands are antique parchments, several thousand years old, written in ancient Hebrew and Aramaic. These have thrown new light on the Book of Genesis. Although translation of the documents are still ongoing, here is the gist of the new textual codicils:

Apparently a serpent was not the cause of Adam and Eve's troubles during their sojourn in the Garden of Eden. Instead, the problems emanated from the evil propensities of the soul-sucking vampire apple.

The translation indicates that neither Adam nor Eve ate of the forbidden fruit. Instead, the Vampire Apple BIT THEM!

Now, when I became aware of this, I almost burst into tears - overwhelmed with a sense of relief that my primordial parents have been proven innocent and they (and we as well) are now free from all taint of original sin. (Who would want to eat that nasty-looking apple, anyway?) I'm also gratified to know that Mother Eve will no longer be regarded as that devious temptress - a view that men have harbored in their collective unconscious since time immemorial. Hey guys...you can lighten up now - it's all over!

Well, dear friends, I am so happy to share this news with you. I will continue to keep you posted with regard to updated releases of the Mesopotamian translations as they become available to Doctor Rosenblatt - who, along with yours truly, is one of the attendees at our bi-weekly Sabbatical ecumenical get-togethers, led by my rabbi friend, Ira Glock, professor emeritus at Harvard Divinity School..

And remember: an apple a day keeps the doctor away! - Blessings from Albina

P.S. With regard to the ancient Mesopotamian parchment manuscripts, Professor Yuri Rosenblatt cautions that neither he nor Tel Aviv University make any claims as to their authenticity. That will have to await certification of their provenance as verified by various carbon dating test procedures. Stay tuned.

where does it say that? seems the bible said it was in the garden.Ez 28:11-19
Ezekiel 28:15
(15) Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.

When Satan tempted Adam & Eve he had already sinned, he had already fallen from heaven. Satan sinned first then he tempted Adam & Eve

Whether it's a fictional finding or not this is rehashed text, and I see no news about it from any official source other than personal narrative on discussion boards such as this one. I think if it were a real discovery it'd be another archaeological find of the century and would receive wide discussion.

Man's current estate has more to it than just the sin of Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve ate the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil. I believe that this fruit still plays a part in what mankind is. They realized they were naked; so do we. It appears that what happened to Adam and Eve because of the fruit is still part of who we are. But the fruit is not the only thing we must deal with. God shortened the time that mankind would live. Genesis 6:3 "And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be a hundred and twenty years." Before God did this, people were living hundreds of years. There is also the tower of Babel. Genesis 11:1 "And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech." God also changed this about mankind. Genesis 11:7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech." This was to stop mankind because God said, "nothing will be restrained from them" Genesis 11:6. God has restrained us from all doing the same thing. So we see that man's current estate is not only because of Adam and Eve but God continued to work with mankind.

When Satan tempted Adam & Eve he had already sinned, he had already fallen from heaven. Satan sinned first then he tempted Adam & Eve
I dont think so..reread that text..also Is.14..remember Job..Luke 10:18 Jesus prophecied. Rev.12:7-9
I think possibly tempting Eve was his first sin...he was a liar and a murderer from the beginning..But
future still for Him to be kicked out of Heaven...or else it took place at Christs ascension.

Vampire Apple... that's funny... heretical but funny.

Seriously though, the fruit in the garden had no special power. The sin of Adam and Eve was that they exalted their own selfish desires over God's one and only commandment at the time.

Selfishness is the root of all sin. It is contradictory in every way to God's nature which is selfless.

Selfishness is the root of all sin. It is contradictory in every way to God's nature which is selfless.
Selfishness can be identified on a very personal level. When God commanded Adam and Eve not to eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil; That was the Word of God. But, Adam and Eve did not heed the Word of God; Instead

they chose to do the things which seemed right to them.

That nature was portrayed in Adam and Eve. That nature is also portrayed in the disciple Peter.

In both instances, the Word of God reveals Satan's work.

When Jesus spoke of the things which would happen to Him, Peter immediately rebuked Jesus and said these things must not happen. Peter honestly did what seemed right to him. Immediately Jesus said,

Satan, you are not mindful of the things of God, but of men. That statement alone spoke clearly of the things which took place in the Garden of Eden.

If we take the time to wear the shoes of this teaching, it shouldn't be that much of a step to see that everyone has done what seems right to them, but in the end it becomes evident that there is error in the things which seem right to us.

God made that basic nature in all people. It's the one thing we trust most about ourselves. It is that basic nature Satan deceived; and this is why Jesus said that Satan was a murderer from the beginning.

I know the term 'pride' is used in most teaching, but it falls short of understanding that the one thing we trust most about ourselves is that part Satan deceived. We cannot see it unless Jesus reveals it to us, like He did for Peter.

we also do not know everything.

When Adam and Eve did not heed the Word of God, but instead, chose to do the things which seemed right to them. Satan had said, Surely you will not die.

Watch closely

When we read the language that speaks of Adam and Eve's temptation, and they ate of the fruit; to the natural man, it appears Satan was right, they did not die.

There is a purpose in Satan's work, and many miss what took place at that very moment. Adam and Eve died into sin, and this is Satan's purpose. The deception is that great that even we personally could not see what Satan had done. This is why Jesus said that Satan was a murderer from the beginning.

That is a good point. The origin of sin is the deception of the lie. I have not see this clearly before. Thanks
