MARK 3: 20 Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat. 21 When his family[b] heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”
22 And the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem said, “He is possessed by Beelzebul! By the prince of demons he is driving out demons.”
23 So Jesus called them over to him and began to speak to them in parables: “How can Satan drive out Satan? 24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. 26 And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come. 27 In fact, no one can enter a strong man’s house without first tying him up. Then he can plunder the strong man’s house. 28 Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter, 29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.”
30 He said this because they were saying, “He has an impure spirit.”

Do we recognize the danger of becoming so deeply engrossed in our traditions and denominational tenants that we don’t recognize the truth when we hear it or the Savior when He is standing right in front of us? Take heed.

Lord, give me a soft heart and teachable spirit that recognizes YOUR voice.

Amen & amen. People seem to forget that it's not a creed or a doctrine which saves but Jesus Christ who does. Our salvation does not rest in religion or in tradition but in the person of Christ. When we allow our love of religious doctrine to over rule our love for man (be them saved or sinner) it is a clear indicator that our heart is not in the right place.

i live in the rural south in the u.s., and many, many of the small churches worship their traditaions rather than the living God. some in my area have fired pastors for just wanting to change one thing.very sad.

Teachable spirit kind of sounds like easily brainwashed.

Nothing against what you were saying in anyway. That is just the first thing that popped in my head at the title.

If by "easily brainwashed" you mean humble of heart, yearning to be more like Christ, hungry to learn more of the deeper things of God (which is what I mean by having a teachable spirit), you can call it whatever you like. :)

It is wise to speak forth the first things that pop into our heads without counting the cost?

Hope you're having an amazing Sunday!

I was thinking of these scriptures myself...

Ephesians 4:13-15
New King James Version (NKJV)
13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ—

yes we should allow God to teach us but that does not mean we follow every new false doctrine people try to pass off as revelations to them from God for us to follow.

If we fall prey to that, we are being taught by man, not God
