In the book of Kings it talks alot about the High Places. God hated them and many kings did good but they did not remove the High Places. What things in your life could be like the High Places? What things do you never seem able to get rid of? Wicked movies? Wicked habits? The High Places represent sin that needs to be taken away. High Places are things that are stealing our devotion from the Lord. They are things that are against the Lord's commandments.

high places weren't necessarily pagan...often the high places were just illicit shrines for worshipping the God of israel...

the main problem with those kinds of high places was that God had given the israelites specific instructions on how to serve him...but the people wanted to do it their own way because it was more convenient...

modern 'high places' could be ways in which christians 'cut corners' and serve God the easy way instead of serving him the right way...

High places might include unchastity, insobriety, pride, and failure to love the Lord with all our hearts, minds, and souls.

The "high places" in scripture refer to elevated places IN WHICH they erected idols that they worshiped. They were shrines to pagan gods and goddesses. They were elevated so that they could be seen from distances. When they took down the high places, it was to remove the idols by whatever means.
"High places" is all about idolatry.
