Notice I said Sin is a mental illness, NOT that mental illness is a sin.

there is a BIG difference.

I was driving to drop my daughter off for her preschool a few days ago and had this wonderful discourse in my head about it, but now that I sit down to write it all out, my mind draws a blank.

I guess I'll ramble and pray and perhaps it will come back......

Dear Heavenly Father:

You sent Jesus to be the Light of the world and told us to be children of the day and not the night. Help shine your light upon our lives and our minds and our hearts. Words can only convey so much, what we need is YOUR Holy Spirit to work among us. Please God chase away the misunderstanding, the hurt feelings, the impatience, the anger, the bitterness, the unforgiveness and the inability to Listen and See the heart of Your Words Lord. Help us to see the Love and mercy of your eternal plan, revealed to us in Your Holy Bible. Give us a heart that is humble and contrite and not bitter and judgmental and unforgiving. Lord give us wisdom from above and take from us all the worldly knowledge the does nothing but build up pride and idols and strongholds that war against You Lord. God help us to remove the sin in our lives and realize the Sin is not an action but a Mental disease the cause people to turn away from YOU and Your light.

Lord I still don't know what to say. So I guess I'll just post some scriptures. Please bless us and may the meditation of our hearts and the words and our actions be pleasing in your sight. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

2 Corinthians 10

1 Now I, Paul, myself am pleading with you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ—who in presence am lowly among you, but being absent am bold toward you. 2 But I beg you that when I am present I may not be bold with that confidence by which I intend to be bold against some, who think of us as if we walked according to the flesh. 3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 6 and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.

anyway what are your thoughts on the subject?

oh I remember now some of it.

I was reading a post on here about how some people had mental illness and there was a mention of the messiah complex, etc and it got me to thinking and praying because a lot of people close to me have mental or physical illnesses and I have considered a job in the field of special education so I wondered what the Bible and God had to say about the subject and the thought that "Sin is mental illness that all of humanity is infected with" entered my mind.

"How can people intentionally do things to put themselves farther away from God? how can they indulge in activities that injure themselves and those around them? how can they truly love others as God does when they don't truly love themselves. it is like cutting themselves over and over again to see if God's mercy will allow the cut to heal or if God will allow them to Die this time instead. Or a drug addict with the heroin needle. Sin is addictive and people don't go cold turkey without have physical withdrawal symptoms. its insanity but it is the state of an unregenerated person to be addicted to sin. research addicts and you will see the pattern amplified but it is the same. in the beginning they think they can conquer the world and can quit at any time, and then when they try, they can't they don't control the drug the drug controls their life. sin is the same it is a bondage. it is awful. God please help us overcome sin and tear down any strongholds that war against YOUR Truth and knowledge. Jesus we need YOU!!!"

anyway that is my ramble.

lol this is one of the places I feel like its ok to ramble and people might actually listen. thanks.

Why are we waiting for TOMMORROW? Let us repent and walk in the Spirit TODAY while Today is still here.

Hebrews 3

12 Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; 13 but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, 15 while it is said:

“ Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”[c]

Personally, I tend to disagree. However, let me explain...

My mother used to live with me for a while after she and my father split up about a decade or so ago. She suffered from several issues which required her to take several medications. Panic, anxiety, fear, hyper tension and depression just to name a few.

At first I was somewhat worried that what she has might be genetic because her siblings seemed to suffering from the same issues as well. However, after my mother began to disclose her family history to me, it became apparent to me that all of her issues were to due to the abusive enviroment that she grew up in as a child where she was forced to fend for herself at a very early age.

Now, I love my mother whole heartedly and would do anything for her however, after a while I realized that what my mother was suffering from was not an illness per say like diabetes or high blood pressure. What she was suffering from was a very extreme case of self centeredness. Not only did my mother struggle with the symptoms previously stated but she was also easily offended and very unforgiving. To be completely honest, I felt like I was living with a problem teen.

In time, the Lord began to show me through my mother how selfishness can completely destroy a life. Basically, I got a crash course in 'depravity 101' up close and personal. I also realized that, through reading the Word of God and personal direction from the Holy Spirit, that I did not have be like that just as long as I learned to rely on the Holy Spirit in my daily walk thus bringing my own sense of self under subjection.

Basically the gist of everything that I had learned is this: Man, by nature, is selfish. God, by nature, is selfless. When we seek to fulfill the desires of our own selfish desires, we enter into rebellion against God and His ways. Thus selfishness is the root of all sin.

I personally believe that mental illness is the result of selfishness that has gone out of control for whatever reason.

In ending, I do realize that many here will most likely disagree with me and I do respect that. They are entitled to their own opinions. I do realize that this is a very sensitive issue and it is not my goal to offend anyone but to share what I have learned with others. If anyone would like to discuss this issue further, I'm open to it however, I'm not going to argue with anyone.

Take care & God bless!

I would like to add to this that I do not believe that my mother is to blame for her situation. While I do believe that her illness was a direct result of sin, it was not a result of her own sin but the sins others thus my mother was the victom of the bible would call a a generational curse.

Eze 18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

Gal 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

If I'm not mistaken we are no longer under generational curses.

Nope you surely are not mistaken....Yet a new wind of doctrine has been told to shore up the healing
ministry failures when telling them they dont have enough faith gets old. Its sad but its becoming more
acceptable and giving rise to false spiritual deliverance ministries. The curse is bad theology and the lack
of biblical discernment being taught as we are supposed to gain in our studies.

Dear Crossfire,

I absolutely agree with you, I have seen this in many that I minister to.
Selfishness is running ramped, I have often wondered about this new label
doctors have put on people now and call it "Bipolar", I personally believe it is a lack
of Spiritual growth, they call it a Chemical imbalance, I think it's just not being balanced
at all. And from what I have seen, guess where it's at most, ...."I'll probably get stoned
for this but"........It's in those that call themselves Christians........

Selfishness? from what I've seen, Yes, not being able to let go of things,
That are so obvious, that the Holy Spirit is dealing with them on.

And the thing that gets me is they want to go forward with God, but can't quite get
ahold of letting go.....I know that sounds strange, but it's true.

I'm like you I don't want to offend anyone, but that is just my opinion also.
But I have seen God do miricles when it comes to this.

Blessings

after reading your response I'm not sure what you disagree with me about but ok...maybe I didn't word my thought clearly... I'll try to respond to your post and maybe it will help us both verbalize our beliefs?

My mother used to live with me for a while after she and my father split up about a decade or so ago. She suffered from several issues which required her to take several medications. Panic, anxiety, fear, hyper tension and depression just to name a few.
Jesus is the cure to mental illness not pills. someone commented that if sin was a mental illness they could just take a pill to cure it. however anyone who has worked with the mentally ill know that pills do not cure, they suppress and have very bad long term side effects like liver failure among the most common and other physical downturns for taking such medicines. I don't believe in drug up ADHD kids either but that is another topic. most of those kids aren't challenged enough or expected to sit still in a desk and learn when they would do better with hands one interactive lessons. but that is my personal teaching philosophy.

At first I was somewhat worried that what she has might be genetic because her siblings seemed to suffering from the same issues as well. However, after my mother began to disclose her family history to me, it became apparent to me that all of her issues were to due to the abusive enviroment that she grew up in as a child where she was forced to fend for herself at a very early age.
yeah most of it is environmental because we live in a sinful fallen world and people selfishly abuse others especially children because of the depravities that people did to them. its a vicious cycle that demons entice people to repeat over and over again. that is how they enslave humanity by getting them to abuse the ones they should love. Genetics has a factor but some mentally retarded kids are so because their mothers took some drug or drink alcohol. back a few decades ago they had a drug for morning sickness that caused the babies to be born without limbs. "science" at work.

sorry if that sounds a little cynical. if you didn't know me and how much I love true science and the discovery of the natural world and how God created the universe and the laws in it, you might misunderstand. Eventually I want to be a high school science teacher and current taking classes for it and substituting mostly for special needs classes and sometimes the things you see and hear just breaks your heart.

Now, I love my mother whole heartedly and would do anything for her however, after a while I realized that what my mother was suffering from was not an illness per say like diabetes or high blood pressure. What she was suffering from was a very extreme case of self centeredness. Not only did my mother struggle with the symptoms previously stated but she was also easily offended and very unforgiving. ever felt like you might be the only sane person in the world only to learn that you have hangups and issues as well?

people are born self centered. they have t o be taught to share. watch a group of kids, sharing is NOT natural but learnt behaviour. kids don't do it because it is the right thing to do. they do it because they think they will get an award or will avoid punishment by doing it.

what your mother's problem is, is that she has not been born again and have the Holy Spirit to teach and guide her in His ways.

that is the problem with most of the world. sometimes we can just pray, be patient and show them love and forgiveness and watch God transform their hearts and lives. I'm not very old but I've seen it done, sometimes it takes years but in the end what is a few years for an eternity with God?

In time, the Lord began to show me through my mother how selfishness can completely destroy a life. Basically, I got a crash course in 'depravity 101' up close and personal. I also realized that, through reading the Word of God and personal direction from the Holy Spirit, that I did not have be like that just as long as I learned to rely on the Holy Spirit in my daily walk thus bringing my own sense of self under subjection.
but have you realized the beginning cycle of selfishness that caused your mother to be damaged and abused and build the walls and strongholds to protect herself from the world out of fear?

Basically the gist of everything that I had learned is this: Man, by nature, is selfish. God, by nature, is selfless. When we seek to fulfill the desires of our own selfish desires, we enter into rebellion against God and His ways. Thus selfishness is the root of all sin.
God is more then selfless. He is divine order, truth, justice, love, peace, joy, and so much more that words have not even been spoke to describe the depth and goodness of God.

I personally believe that mental illness is the result of selfishness that has gone out of control for whatever reason.
I see were we disagree now.

No I don't think mental illness is a result of an individuals selfishness but the world's and the people who sin against and abuse those people. I believe many of the mentally and physically handicap people are bearing the cross for others who have sinned against them and against others like them. I believe that when Jesus comes they will be healed and rewarded for their love and faithfulness and that the world will be judged by how they treat these little ones.

No I didn't post to argue. it was just on my mind.

often I find that people make assumptions of what I believe based on what they believe instead of actually reading my words.

mental illness is not treated by pills but by the Holy Spirit. only GOD can heal mind or body.

without God allowing cells to replicate, what would happen to the human body within a day?

Sin is not a mental illness.
it is due to mental strongholds that war against the knowledge of God

It is part of human nature.
it is a part of the human condition but I'm not convinced its part of the original plan God had for human nature when He created Adam and Eve in the garden.

James 1:13
Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.

Everyone has it.
in this world yes, but in the New Heaven and New Earth, no.

from the responses so far, it makes me wondering if my words are that unclear.

does anyone actually get what I'm trying to say?

You will have to sin less often.
the cure to Sin is NOT sinning less but JESUS washing you clean of the filth you have built up in you mind.

if a child played in the mud puddle, you would not go, well if you want to get clean, just play less in the mud.

i'm so confused, What????
