Every month a group of Christians gather at Shoney’s in Brentwood, Tennessee, for a prayer breakfast. In a public restaurant, we have the freedom to pray to God. We do not need to hide or meet behind closed doors in fear of adverse consequences.

In spite of this freedom, why do we often lack the boldness to proclaim Christ in the streets? Are we ashamed? Are we afraid? Do we fear people more than God?

Daniel, if anyone, had cause to be afraid. King Darius, at the urging of his advisors, issued a decree that during a certain 30-day period no one was allowed to pray to any god or man other than the king (Dan. 6:6-9). Daniel, in obedience to the Most High God, whose laws are above earthy laws (Acts 5:29), continued to pray to the one true God in spite of the king’s decree. Daniel even had the boldness to open his windows during each of his three daily prayer times (Dan. 6:10). There were consequences to his open profession of his faith in God as we read the rest of the story—David was thrown into the lion’s den and was miraculously delivered from death by God (Dan. 6:14-23).

We are not under such orders here in America. Religious freedom still reigns, and while we are able, we should not be afraid to share Jesus with others. “God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power” (2 Tim.1:7, NIV).

I pray that God encourages you to take a cue from Daniel and praise the Lord whenever and wherever He leads you to do so. Seek His presence always. Pray continually (1 Thess. 5:17). Practice this now, let it take root in you, so that you will continue to grow into a strong and mature Christian who will not be shaken no matter what happens in our nation or the world. The day may come when this freedom will be taken away. Our faith must have a firm foundation if we are to stand up for God’s laws, against the world, and to speak His name boldly.

Why not begin now?

For me I think it's also about finding the right time to share. I don't think we should be loud just for the sake of 'sharing' our faith. In the wrong context and setting we can be obnoxious and do more harm to the kingdom than help. But I get the heart of what you're saying. We should be bolder. :)

For example, when I was growing up, there was always this pressure from Christians at my church to share my faith if I happened to be on a airplane! I don't know what it is about being on a plane that makes sharing the faith super special, but apparently there is something sacred about telling someone about Jesus while they're cornered in a large tube hovering 30,000 feet above the ground.

Honestly if someone tried sharing something with me while I was stuck on a tube flying above the ground at thousands of feet, I'd find them more annoying that helpful.

I agree with this 100 percent! i was often pressured to do such things as well, but I think sometimes the best way to speak to people is to build up a relationship with them with your actions and words rather than just being loud for the sake of it.All the same though, I also get what you;re saying, aswe do these things we should be bold in what we say ^_^

once again kakashi i compliment you on your irish thumbs! I'm agreeing with stilly however b4 i get on a plane i pray for opportunity. I have a Jesus fish on my bag so that will occasionally get the ball rolling, inevitably if i speak to someone in general conversation something about the Lord will come up because He's such a HUGE part of our lives and we try to always give him the glory. I think some people are outgoing and some are extreemly shy (i'm just starting to understand shyness as one of my sons is VERY shy) If you are shy then NO... do not go out on the street and boldly proclaim your faith... you may have heart failure from the stress of it all. I am an extrovert so I pray for oportunities with every situation to speak of the Lord. My son christian is also bold in the Lord, I would never force someone to minister in a way that goes contrary to their very being as this would be fake and perceived as fake or forced. In his own quiet way my husband also effects those placed in his path... he envy's me my ability to talk to ANYONE anytime but unfortunately or actually fortunately thats not who he his. I envy him his calm forgiving steadfast gentle patience. Use your gift whatever it may be to the Lords benefit. I agree with you Lynn... we should absoltuely listen to the Holy Spirit when he nudges us to share a word with those we encounter.
