I do not attend one church regularly right now, but feel called to give a tithe of my income to Christian charities. Is this justified? You can tell me...but I also want some charities that are near and dear to you, the reader.

I have been splitting my contributions between something that helps the poor, widows, and children--and one that helps specifically disadvantaged women...but now am thinking about switching my charities.

I have been using ministrywatch.com to find charities to support, and I kind of find myself like a kid in the candy store trying to choose the best candy, but wanting to support many.

I support "food for the poor" and "hope international" right now...and have been for several months, but am considering some of the other 'candy' on the site.

I know this may sound block-headed of me, but I often question and disagree on the way local churches in my area use the tithe when I give it to them.

I know someone who seems to adopt the "i give to this one specific charity and forget about the others" mentality. I disagree with this and want to remain open to helping in all areas of Christian need.

God bless

ps. I am currently looking at "Bright Hope International" and quite a few others, including some to this site as I use their services and have not contibuted yet.

In the last year or so, we've been pretty tight financially. So I've been "tithing" by way of actually volunteering more. We give money when we can, but my wife and I offer our hands as well.

whats great is that u have a giving heart, where one sees a need and can help meet it truely has the love of God in them, scriptural. Not a question which charity, wow dont have to look far to see many are in true need. And meeting a need doesnt have to be throwing money at it, we can give our time, ear, goods etc but more importantly we know it pleases our Father in heaven,

I ended up just giving to those two charities; as I got kind of confused and vexed at trying to figure out which ones would be better to support with this paycheck's tithe.

God bless

Personally, I believe your tithe belongs to the church body that you are a part of. However, since you are between churches then I commend you for wanting to tithe into a worthy ministry. If it were me, I would tithe into a ministry that has impacted my own life in some form or fashion. However, if your town / city has a homeless shelter / food kitchen, I'm sure they would appreciate the help.

I stoped tithing to the church when our pastor stole the churches money. Pretty much everything I ever tithed went to a thief because the church had been saving the money. My tithe was never spent on anything good. Years of tithe went down the drain. So now I try to support other Christian groups where the money actually goes to good use.

The Master teaches not to let one hand know what the other is doing in giving alms. As for giving alms it is to be done in secret so our Father in heaven rewards us in the open. If we sound the trumpet before giving alms, we have our reward, thus it is ill advised to answer this poll as followers of Yeshua. Bless all who are in Yeshua and all who will come to Him, amen.

The giving is still in secret. Is it wrong to encourage Christians to support Christian causes? Just because I said I support Shared Hope International right now as well as Food for the Poor, does not describe my giving whatsoever. As I said I give to them right now, the same amount as a tithe that most Christians do say they give to their church.
This still does not show the giving amount exactly. Is it wrong to say you tithe?
God bless

I chose to support a few small charities. I volunteer at my local Knights of Columbus council and we do fundraisers for local schools and pregnancy centers. I've donated in the past to the Little Sisters of the Poor as well.
