Many people hold to the values of a Judeo -Christian God or culture.

The sad thing is that the bible says the narrow way to the Father is only through Jesus Christ. Therefore people who hold to Judeo -Values, name the name God (minus Christ) or whatever else, are not following God nor worshipping Him. The slogan "one nation under God" falls short. The proper Christian slogan is "one nation under God the Father through Jesus Christ by the Holy Spirit". "one nation under God" is pseudo-Christian at best, and in no way honors God , because God is only worshipped and glorified through the Son Jesus Christ. Even the devils believe in God. That is the level of belief that is examplified in today's culture and government. It is pretense at best, because we know that no one can access God except through Christ. And if they don't access God through Christ they do not have God.

I'm not sure the practice in American government, but as I alluded to before, Australia is probably more Christian than America.
In parliament they say (or used to say) the Lord's prayer , which at least acknowledges the Father in Heaven, and is decidedly Christian.
Australia's founders also declared quite openly and plainly that Australia would be a Christian nation. It's hard to find such clear similar statements affirming Christianity in America's. But correct me if i'm wrong.
Australia's head of state is the Queen of England who is (or was) titled the Defender of the Faith, and head of the Church of England.
One of our former Governors (Queen's representative) was a former Anglican arch-bishop.
They are a few examples of a more Christian government rather than a pseudo "we acknkowledge God" government. God could mean anything, a Hindu god, Allah, or some new age universal God of the universe.

Living a life based on good moral principles based upon Judeo-Christian values might make a good framework for a countries government , (better than communist right?), but we have to realise that this is not the type of narrow-minded way of biblical fundamental Christianity most of us in here ascribe to. Which I suppose is why many American Christians seem disatisfied with their governments as they are not lined up with the bible enough.

Let me answer the question with a quote that sums it up pretty well:

"America is simultaneously the most professedly Christian of the developed nations and the least Christian in its behaviour. In 2004, as a share of our economy, we ranked second to last, after Italy, among developed countries in government forgeign aid. Nearly 18 percent of American children lived in poverty (compared with, say, 8 percent in Sweden). In fact, by pretty much every measure of caring, childhood nutrition, infant mortality, access to pre school - we come in nearly last among the rich nations, and often by a wide margin. Despite the Sixth Commandment, we are, of couse, the most violent rich nation on earth, with a murder rate four or five times of our European peers. Having been told to turn the other cheel, we're the only Western democracy left that executes its citizens, mostly in those states where Christianity is theoretically strongest. Teenage pregnancy? We're at the top of the charts. Personal self-discipline - like, say, keeping your weight under control? Buying on credit? Running government deficits? Do you need to ask?"

I've been contemplating this question for some time now and just thought I would ask for your input:

The question:

Since the founding fathers claimed to establish this nation for religious freedom purposes and exemption from taxation among other things. Was the American revolution biblical and did it glorify God? Here are some scriptures to think through:

Romans 13:1-2 reads

1 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.

Next: Mark 12:17
17And Jesus answered and said to them, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
Of course not. yes, we were founded on Christian principles but we have fallen far away from that now.
What America needs to do is follow 2 Chronicles 7:14- "If my people which are called by my name shall humble themselves and pray an dseek my face and turn from their wicked ways then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." And we as Americans are God's People and everyone one's trying to fix a problem that God has already address. We need to turn back to our ultimate source of answers.

Imepaula,

I think it is not Americans but Christians (ie, churches) that need to seek God, etc. in order for this land to be healed.

We can see that the Christian does not have freedom in the American sense - the ability to live as they please and do as they please, but the Christian is a slave to righteousness.
This made me laugh. :D

Not just America but the whole world is slowly deviating from biblical principles....that's if they were originally founded on Christianity. All we can do is pray for our nation that it will return to God.
