Our founding fathers believed that the king of England was keeping them from worshipping God in their own way,and that they were being taxed unfairly. They were being executed for their refusal to obey the King.
In the USA we have a government that has legalized abortion, made it illegal to have religious expression in public and tax us more than what God demands. We now have a Hate Crime bill that will not protect preachers in the event they are attacked by a homosexual because of something they repeated from the Bible. Our government is getting more anti-God every day.
Is it the responsibility of the 21st century Christian to act as our founders did?Do we keep trying as we have in the past and vote them out, hoping that we are not lied to?Or do we just not pay it any attention and remember that as long as we continue living Godly lives we will get to Heaven?

1. love God with all our mind, heart and soul
2. love our Brother as we love ourself

As far as politics go, Jesus said give to Caeser what is Caeser's and give to God what is God's. The Bible says that God appoints leaders. In Revalation it says God hardens the hearts (or something to that effect) of those leaders that bring about the end of days.
I'm not sure if public faith is called for in the Bible. Remember the Pharshisiee's? Jesus said we should pray in private, and you will have your reward from God. The Pharishisee's, who pray in public have their reward here.
I don't know personally how any man who lived by faith could get elected to any major office considering our political system.
Why should we fear being persiscuted? The Bible says we should know we have a great reward in heaven when we are.

I've often wondered if there is really anything we can do about the state of the world and government we (US-Americans) can really do. I think the best we can do right now is to pray for our leaders. There is so much power in prayer. And while laws pass that are corrupt and unjust, even prejudice, remember Jesus told us "Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" Even has laws are made that restrict us more and more, God is ever-present among us.

If you feel especially called to do it, try writing letters to members of congress or to your state representative. I know that most of these letters go unread- but sometimes you never can fully know what kind of ripple a pebble thrown in the sea can make.

Let the government legalize gay marriage, it doesn't mean YOU have to agree with it or do it. Let them make laws that don't protect priests who are beaten because of the word: "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me."

Each of these trials and tribulations made against Christians, gives us another reason to become closer to each other, to serve God, and to show the world that no matter what laws they pass, or what rules they make, we arent' going anywhere, and that we are still strong in our faith.

Amen angel, and all I would want to add is all this stuff going on in today's world was prophecised in the Bible.

Ro 1:22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,Ro 1:23And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.Ro 1:24Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:Ro 1:25Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.Ro 1:26For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:Ro 1:27And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.Ro 1:28And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;Ro 1:29Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,Ro 1:30Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,Ro 1:31Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:Ro 1:32Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

so could we change it if we wanted too, if God turns them over to a reprobate mind can we change it? Only if you Believe

Php 4:13I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

so keep preaching righteousness, keep reminding us Christians to be ye Holy For God is Holy. and remember the lost and preach Jesus and Him crucified Because it also says
Mt 9:36But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.Mt 9:37Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;Mt 9:38Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

The thing that concerns me most about the state of our government is that I can write all the letters I want and call my representatives and talk to them until I am blue in the face but until they feel pressure, and that comes from more than just one person, they will not change.
I believe deep in my heart that God wants His people to start confronting our leaders that evidently do not hold Him in very high regard.I cannot believe that He wants us to just pray and let Him handle things. If you watch what the people In Israel are doing, they are not being silent about what Obama is doing, they are voicing their opinions.
If I am wrong for believing the way I do,I hope that God will forgive me.
