Quote:
However, I believe that the following verses talk about immersion in water:
Acts 2
38Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins ; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Here the Greek verb "baptizo" is clearly referring to water baptism
no it isn't, you just made that up.
It is talking about immersed in Jesus name. Very clear and simple.
I did not make it up. You see a pattern in the entire book of acts that believers were water baptized, and they were urgent about it.

Matthew 3:
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized , went up straightway out of the water: and, lo , the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him

In Mt 3:16 it says that Jesus was baptized (Greek verb baptizo, Strong's no: 907, and yes, this was John's water baptism off course, and did not involve any work of God, it was a pledge made in good conscience). The word baptizo refers to water baptism. How else would he "come out or the water?" This is a verse ABOUT BAPTISM. It is not a reference to baptism.

Again, Acts 2:38 is about baptism, and not a reference to baptism. Not an analogy. Water Baptism was the godly solution (along with repentance) that Peter offered to the people who BELIEVED as a result of the falling of the Holy Spirit and as a result of Peter's speech. Water (H2O) did nothing. However, baptism was an act of obedience. Jesus had commanded his disciples to baptise in Mt 28: 19. In Acts 2:38, Peter is obeying this command and teaching them to be baptized.

How did they water baptize multitudes? Simple. Once you are water baptized, you can baptize others. (This is different from the laying of hands, which could be done only by the Apostles)

REFERENCES to baptism are in: Mt 20:22, Lk 12:50, where it does not mean water baptism.

So I did not make this up. It is in the Bible, and it is very clear that immersion is all about water.

Buddy did Jesus EVER baptizo a single person with or in water? H2O water, not the LIVING WATERS of the WORD, Water as in a tap or river. NO! Why not? Because HE BAPTIZO IN HOLY WATER BY THE WORD... TRUTH! John17.. Jesus ask the Father.... John17:17.. Sanctify them in Your truth Your Word is the Truth. This sanctification, is it not also a BAPTIZO.. A submirtion.... Look what Jesus said to His apostles... Go and BAPTIZE the people in the name of THE FATHER, The Son and THE HOLY SPIRIT... Ok lets see here ... In THE NAME ... ONE NAME..... Father's Name... YHVH... Son's Name ...Yeshuah Ha Meshiach. And Holy Spirit's Name... Christ Jesus... Three different Names, so which ONE NAME are all of them....Look in Revelation for the answer.
Also that was not the whole command, they still had to do two more things.... He said... Mat 28... Go ye therefore, and teach all nations (also making disciples), baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Mat 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.

Let us look at these three commands, or was it only one command put three different ways so they will NEVER doubt what they ought to do...
Command 1: How do we make a disciple or a Christian of all nations?.... We teach them the Gospel Of Jesus Christ, Teach them the Word of God!

Command 2: How do we baptize people in all three Names? Here is the Name of All THREE... Rev 19:13.. And he (Father) was clothed with a vesture (Holy Spirit) dipped in blood (Son): and his name is called........... The Word of God. So in what should we baptize people... The Word of God... Teach them the Word of God.

Command 3: Teach then to observe all things whatsoever i have commanded you... What was that command?... KEEP MY WORD AND DO IT..... So what should they teach... Teach them the Word of God.

And that is what making disciles, teaching them to observe and baptism means... ALL THE SAME... TEACH THEM THE WORD OF GOD!

The water baptism of today caused more strife and seperation thatn good. I have yet to meet a person that is different, 100% different than before his or her water baptism... Why did they not change? Not a single watr baptism has EVER save a single person. NONE! But the Holy Spirit Baptism, AH, That baptism saved ALL the ones that went through that BAPTISM. So I guess there is only ONE BAPTISM... The One Jesus does! Eph4..

The word baptism is synonymous with water baptism. Water baptism is spiritual baptism. If it is not water baptism, it will be clarified in the scriptures that they were baptized with the Holy Spirit. For eg. in Acts 2, the Apostles were baptized with the Holy Spirit and not water.

Purpose of water baptism: For the forgiveness of sins and to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38)
Purpose of Holy Spirit baptism: To be a witness for Christ (Acts 1:8)

Both measures of the same Holy Spirit are for different purposes. One (Acts 2:38) for Christian living, and the other (Acts 2:4) for the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

The "gift" (singular) of the Holy Spirit is different from the "gifts" of the Holy Spirit.

The gift of the Holy Spirit (i.e. the Holy Spirit given as a gift) is for personal edification and for Christian living. The result of the gift is the 9 fruits of the Holy Spirit. The 9 fruits of the Holy Spirit are available for all Christians depending on their spiritual progress. This gift of the Holy Spirit comes as a result of water baptism.

The 9 "gifts" of the Holy Spirit are for bearing witness of Christ. These gifts are for the edification of others (nonbelievers and the church). The 9 gifts are not given to every Christian. The 9 gifts come as a result of Holy Spirit Baptism. The gifts are given by laying of hands of the Apostles.

I will respond step by step if you don't mind. I haven't reached your dissection of the Book of Acts yet.

I really don't see your point or get you.

i gave you a complete dissect of baptism in all of book of Acts (don't think I missed any)

you said MANY times you would read it.
Yet you keep coming back here posting your beliefs, and replying with quotes. Yet you can't even read all my post.
I do think it's disrespectful.

Read my post first....look at your view, what you think and read your bible, then compare your understanding to mine. And then reply!
You are not doing anything other than coming back here to post your beliefs.

No purpose of water baptism is not for forgiveness! My goodness Jesus himself forgives from heaven, his blood washes away our sins.
Tell me...when you baptise someone in water, and steals something. It brands him a sinner right!? so how can he be pure and sanctified? do we have to dip him in water again to wash him and cleanse his sins!? that IS YOUR purpose of water baptism.

the 9 gifts are not only for bearing witness...it is a gift.

you keep saying you will respond and read my dissection. Who are you deceiving!?
if you are doing to do something, do it and don't just say it.

just like how we have to be doers of the biblers instead of seers or readers.

Quote:
1Pet 3
20who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently36 in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water,
21and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also--not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience41 toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ
Here the Greek noun "baptisma" refers to immersion. What kind of immersion? v 20 mentiones "water," and v21 also mentions the word "water"
1 Peter 3:20 talks about disobedient were killed in the flood. But 8 people survived through water. It is funny how water killed millions and water saved 8 people. But Peter said this water is a symbol NOT of the washing of dirt (which water baptism is) but of a pledge. The pledge is when you pray, repent and confess.
Also you changed the word, it clearly says -"21and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also"-. Not symbolizes water baptism. It says symbolizes immersion.
what does conscience/pledge means?
consciences plural
An inner feeling or voice viewed as acting as a guide to the rightness or wrongness of one's behavior
he had a guilty conscience about his desires
pledges plural
A solemn promise or undertaking
the conference ended with a joint pledge to limit pollution

And yes Philip did baptise the Etopian. But read this
7[And Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."]
What does Romans 10:9 say?
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Again with Peter...he said they can be baptized in water because they are already saved through the pledge.
====================================
Here the context is salvation. In the days of Noah, few were saved. So is it with baptism. Just as Noah obeyed, those who get baptized in water are the ones who obey and will be saved. It says that 8 were saved through water in Noah's days. Similarly, in these days the act of obedience of getting baptized "saves you also."

NOT of the washing of dirt (which water baptism is)
Are you saying that the purpose of water baptism is to wash dirt? Was John the baptist just giving people a bath to remove dirt? That's ridiculous. Your views are exactly opposite of what this verse is trying to say. This verse is saying that baptism is not washing of the dirt (remember, water is involved) but the pledge of a good conscience. It is not a bath. It is a pledge. A promise made to God that one will live according to his word.

No prayer can save you. It is easy to pray. The whole world prays. Obedience saves you.

Also you changed the word, it clearly says -"21and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also"-. Not symbolizes water baptism. It says symbolizes immersion.
what does conscience/pledge means?
I haven't changed anything. The context here is: being saved. How were they saved? By obedience of building and getting into an ark, something that seemed silly. How are you saved? Through obedience of getting water baptized, something that seems silly to many. The scriptures couldn't be clearer that water is involved.
This is not the Holy Spirit baptism. Holy Spirit baptism is what God does. This baptism (water baptism) is what you must do. The pledge is something that you must make and not God. Your conscience must be clear (the conscience of Simon the sorcerer was not clear). You are in control of your conscience, and not God. So this verse is about something you must do to obey God.

Just wanted you to know that I'm not here to prove you wrong. I'm here to learn. Therefore, I don't mind losing this argument.

Ran out of time. Will write more later. Peace till then.

Dear friend, PEACE! At the moment I am replying to your previous posts (the ones before the dissection). That's why I asked you to be patient with me. I do not intend to deceive. I was worried that you would get that impression, because I am taking a long time. Yes, I agree, I have every now and then replied to later posts(like the video). However, if you notice, I have recently replied to your post above the dissection. I will soon reach your dissection of the book of Acts and reply.

I have to get back to work now. Will get back in touch later.

Acts 8
15When they arrived, they prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit,
16because the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them; they had simply been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.
===============================

Can someone explain why the Holy Spirit had not come on the Samaritans despite being water baptized. In Acts 2:38, isn't the Holy Spirit promised AT WATER BAPTISM? The why did these people in Acts 8 not receive the Holy Spirit?

Namaste! Shalom! Peace!

I am going to give you an answer that may infuriate you. It must have been God, Yahweh's will. Actually, it must have been because when Yahweh, God's Spirit came into me, I had never heard of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, nor had I been yet baptized in water. One day, I was talking to Whoever made everything, and I was thinking just how evil and awful mankind can be and IS. All of a sudden I realized, "Hey, I am a man, part of mankind; You are It" Wham! Life entered into me. Everything turned to light, yet, at the same time seemed like some kind of a movie set. Just minutes after this, a friend, a Jewish friend, because of my appearance, asked me, "Jack, what happened to you?" I replied, "God's Spirit came into me, your God, Yahweh." Now, although I said this to my friend, I was drawn to Jesus, Yeshua, and later I was baptized. Yahweh, God, acts in mysterious ways, and He is so good all of the time, not a moment is missing. There are things written that we may never understand while in this age, and that is fine, knowing just how glorious our God, Yahweh, is, and our Savior, Yeshua, Jesus, God!, amen.

Why should I be infuriated? In fact, I loved your story. I'm just His servant and am living under His grace; so I do not qualify to argue against your experience, leave alone getting infuriated. If God has interacted with you, I should rather congratulate you! He is God, and I agree that he works in mysterious ways. Also agree with you that we may never understand things written in their entirety. However, the basics are simple, and the steps to salvation are simply mentioned therein; simple for anyone to understand. Shalom!

Just a question JaumeJ: Is everyone supposed to/ commanded to wait for such an experience?

Just a question JaumeJ: Is everyone supposed to/ commanded to wait for such an experience?
God, Yahweh, came to me because my heart was broken, and for one time in my selfish life I was concerned about people everywhere and not just myself.

He came to me in a manner I needed, and because He did this just for me, I believe He comes to each person just as that person requires, not demands, but needs. Only the Almighty, All Knowing Maker of all things accomplish such a feat. His love is the same for each one of us, incredible as it may seem.

Part of understanding His love being the same for each of us lies in the truth that we all are members of the Body of His Only Begotten Son. In so being, we are just as beloved to Him as is His Son, and His Son is our Head. No, Yahweh, God is not in love with Himself because they are One. There lies another beautiful mystery.

It is so wonderful, we are all being perfected, and although no man will ever be perfect in this age, we will all be perfected on His great and glorious day. We will be just like Yeshua, Jesus, and this is too wonderful to conceive. We will not be He of course, but just like Him. This thought and relating it to you takes away my breath.

Our Father speaks to each of us, when He will. No man has a direct and constant connection for actual conversation with our Father, but I do know we do for talking to Him. It is only on occasion He talks to us personally. After all, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we always have His Word, the Bible.

Anyone who believes Yeshua, Jesus, Christ, is Lord knows this by the Holy Spirit. To confess with the mouth that He is Lord is the Spirit of prophecy, as declared in the Book, Revelation.

One does not have to be Elijah to have faith, although I believe all of us would like to be like the great men of the Word. All one is required to be is a child who simply asks the Father everything in a child's manner, even constantly nagging Him. He does not mind at all, and it pleases Him. Blessed be the Lord now and forever, amen.

thanks for looking into this. And being humble

Sometimes when someone is baptised in water, water WILL be mentioned. But when it is spiritual baptism, water will not be used.

Now ask yourself this question.
what is the difference between baptised in Jesus and having John's Baptism?

sorry doesn't make sense to me!
if John's Baptism is of water and Jesus of Prayer. (version 1)
if John's Baptism is of prayer and Jesus of Water (version 2)
if John's Baptism is of prayer and Jesus of Prayer (version 3)

like it or not...Paul would still not know. Because Jesus baptise us with Holy Spirit.
Paul gave them the gift of the Holy Spirit. Which is one of the 8 gifts, they had prophecy and tongues.

are you done?
on my next post I will post my own understanding.

7[And Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."]
Why did Phillip ensure that the Ethiopian had believed? It's clear! Without belief, baptism is nothing more than a dip in the river. Baptizo (to be immersed) or baptisma (immersion) in itself does nothing. It is faith in Jesus (belief) and repentance (a pledge of a good conscience) that saves.

What does Romans 10:9 say?
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
In Acts 16:31, Paul and Silas are saying exactly the same thing as Ro 10:9 (Acts 16:31They said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household."). But that very hour of the night night the jailer was baptized (baptizo). If baptism is not part of God's plan, why were they so urgent,as was the Ethiopian eunuch? Obviously baptism is part of God's plan of salvation. Again, it is an outward act of an inner pledge (Just as marriage vows and rings are).

Acts 22:16'Now why do you delay ? Get up and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on His name.'

Here Paul is talking about his own conversion. v.16 are the words of Ananias to Paul. Ananias asked Paul to be urgent and get baptized (baptizo). Note the words, "wash away your sins" (obviously water, again water does not save). Also note the words: "calling on his name" (the pledge of a good conscience)

Quote:
He said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed ?" And they said to him, "No, we have not even heard whether there is a Holy Spirit."
3And he said, "Into what then were you baptized ?" And they said, "Into John's baptism."
4Paul said, "John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in Him who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus."
5When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking with tongues and prophesying.
7There were in all about twelve men.
so what does it say? they did not receive the Holy spirit because they never heard of it. They had John's Baptism.
And they were baptised in Jesus Christ.
Now ask yourself this question.
what is the difference between baptised in Jesus and having John's Baptism?
Agree! They had John's Baptism, which was a baptism of repentance (the only prerequisite). Hence the Holy Spirit and salvation was not involved.

To be baptized in Jesus also means to be water baptized. Here there are 2 prerequisites that I know of:
1) Belief in Christ as ones Lord and Saviour 2) Repentance and turning over a new leaf.

In the above passage Paul learned that these people of Ephesus believed in Jesus (obviously as John told people to believe in the one coming after him). Paul therefore enquired if they had received the Holy Spirit. When they showed that they were ignorant about the Holy Spirit, Paul enquired about their baptism by saying, Into what then (or in whose name) were you baptized(obviously water baptized, which is clarified later). They told him that it was John's baptism. Here Paul was sure that it was water baptism, and both baptisms (Johns and in the name of Jesus) are done by water. Therefore he asked them what kind of baptism they had received

Now assume:.

Case I:
John's baptism- water
Baptism in the name of Jesus- not water
If case I was true, when you are told that someone was water baptized, you will be sure that it is John's baptism.

Case II:
John's baptism- water
Baptism in the name of Jesus- also water
Now, if someone told you that he was water baptised, you would have to ask him, in whose name. This was the case in Acts 19. So both baptisms are water baptisms.

shall we begin?

Act 1:15
Quote:
15 In those days Peter stood up among the believers (a group numbering about a hundred and twenty)
Peter stood with believers numbering to 150

YOUR DISSECTION:
Acts 2
Peter and the disciples were all baptised with Holy Spirit and they received the gift which was speaking in tongues.
But remember Acts 1:4-5
Quote:
4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with[a] water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
SO what happened in Acts 2? Holy Spirit descended upon them and they received the gift of speaking in tongues BUT they were baptised NOT in water. Holy Spirit baptised them. Like John said...Jesus Christ WILL BAPTISE with Holy Spirit..

I agree on every point!

Acts 2:38
Quote:
38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
how do you get your sins forgiven? by water or prayer? what do you do if you want your sins to be forgiven? you pray to God! Doing this is a way of repenting and that is how to be baptised in the name of Jesus.
Why repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ? "for the forgiveness of your sins." It can't get clearer than this.
Note: Water does nothing. Water baptism is just an act of obedience, water being just a symbol. Belief and repentance are steps of a process that gets you forgiven. The ultimate point of salvation is when you obey by getting baptized in water. That's how you get baptized in the name of Jesus.

By neither. Water washes away the dirt. Yes, prayer is a part of the deal. But belief+repentance+water baptism are steps of the process. If belief and repentance alone saves, none of them in the book of Acts would get water baptized. That includes Paul and the Jailer and the Ethiopian eunuch.

sins are forgiven neither by water nor by prayer alone.

that is not how to be baptized. Repentance and baptism, although parts of the same process, are separate. You first REPENT by making a decision not to follow your sinful ways and by turning towards God's path and by making a pledge. Next you get down into the water and get baptized. So repentance and baptism are separate. you cannot get baptized by repenting. Repentance is an inward act. It is a pledge of a good conscience. Baptism is an outward act that symbolizes your inner change and commitment to Jesus (Just like marriage vows, they are often done in public).
