King James Bible (Cambridge Ed.)
And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart.

King James Bible (Cambridge Ed.)
Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.

2 Samuel 5:13 After he left Hebron, David took more concubines and wives in Jerusalem, and more sons and daughters were born to him.

2 Samuel 5:13 After he left Hebron, David took more concubines and wives in Jerusalem, and more sons and daughters were born to him.

700+300=1000
he must busy with having sex all day long
God really really spoiled him

Yes, and God said it was alright through Nathan the prophet (2 Sam 2:8). I guess before Jesus had come, God blessed people with whatever they could understand?

You point out how many wives and concubines Solomon had but you miss the big error he committed.

Solomon put heavy burdens on the people and had overseers to make sure they worked.
1 Kings 515
2 Chronicles 2: 2
2 Chronicles 2: 18 overseers
2 Chronicles 34:13
and in the telling of Solomon's son Rehoboam the people pleaded with him because Solomon had made their yoke grievous and heavy
1 Kings 12: 3-4

To me personally I see no wisdom in that. It is most cruel actually. Isn't that what we are hearing from countries with dictators? That their yoke is heavy? Don't we intervene because of this kind of grievous burden?

God didn't particularly spoil him...
He had so many because it says he was a misogynist. He was addicted to women.
It was also the source of his downfall.

David's name literally means "beloved" when completely translated to English.

Solomon's name means "peace." (Shalom also means health, perfect, and much more.)

When reading the Word many times replacing these words with Yeshua or Jesus, the sentences make more sense than ever........it is wonderment and good.

It is something to consider.

No, Abair, I am not saying that at all. In the Old Testament many times when referring to the throne of David, it is just as easy to say the throne of the Beloved or of Jesus. After all it is Jesus Who is forever on the throne of the line of the Beloved. Many times when the word, peace, is used in the Word, it is very easy to say Jesus in the same place. He is Peace, and He is the Beloved. I do not pretend this to be a teaching that must be for all. I find it refreshing. God bless you................

I believe it has everything to do with David's and Solomon's conduct. They were Kings of Israel, but they did not fulfill the laws of a King of Israel. The only human ever to fulfill those laws of the King is Jesus. There is more to learn about it than just what I am relating here. If you really want to learn about the connections, look at what God promised David and Solomon, then think about our King, Jesus............it is a blessing and blessings. (If you want me to look it up and paste it here, I could do that.)

Solomon did build his home greater than the temple. (mistake)
so every Licentious we should call him addicted ?
No, the word says he was addicted. A "misogynist"
how that was the source for his downfall ?
One of his wives pulled him into false worship.

It's all in there.

And yet the years when Solomon's temple was active were considered the glory days of Israel, and the time when all Jews think of "The Temple." If times were so rough then why could it be considered that way? The Temple of Herod was in no way close to the glory of Solomon's and of course neither one of them will hold a candle to the real temple in heaven.

I would appreciate hearing another way to account for God's prophecy through Nathan. God said He gave David all this and would have given him more and more. It would be interesting to investigate God's relationship with David.

David was the most successful songwriter of all time. (We still sing his songs every week.) David was a great warrior. David was ancestor to the Messiah. David is the first recorded music therapist. And he killed a husband so he could cover up getting his wife pregnant. Do you suppose that had anything to do with Saul switching promised brides on him after he killed Goliath; Michal did not work out too well for him, did she?

Solomon couldn't have been all bad since he gave us the book of Proverbs and Wisdom.
what wisdom come with such man Obsessed with sex like him
specially a wisdom include God
actually if a man like him talk about God and morality i will chose to go to hill than worship his God who allow him to slaves people when he claim created them to worship him and claim "loving them"
then what wisdom came with that give me an example

One of his wives pulled him into false worship
what wrong with God men they do not take the responsibility for their mistakes, or he do not chose well !!!
when one of them made a mistake he cry she made me do it
what a fool believe that
what kind of men they were

whats wrong with you men you ignoring the real issue here
he had 700 wives that Debauchery and immorality
how God allow such thing ? do God gave Solomon 700 women as a Award ?
what that make women ? sex object even to God so he gave his man the permeation to have sex with 700 women as a prize
the other issue what love God give human when he allow "concubines" who they composed of slavery and rape
and i do not care what age were they lived in
God rule suppose to be have the same Principles

why you Avoids the Sexual decay and the slavery which came with rape in his life
How God can reward with doing that Terrible things
is God was ok with that how he can his massage should have the same Principles

So shall we remove all of Solomon's writing from scripture? Corrupt author, corrupt writing??? Slice and dice Proverbs and Psalms, Song of Songs and Lamentations too.

Or can we ignore the 1000 wives/concubines and settle on the word of God as is.

AND

ignore the sinner and look to see what he did for God.

First of all this is the tough question, to answer. But this might be sort of an answer. Almost every character in the Bible, except Jesus, had a flaw. David lusted after Bathsheba, Solomon gave into one of his wives' gods, etc. First, the ultimate disobedience Solomon did was allowing his many wives to lead him astray instead of saying enough is enough. Secondly, about the multiple wives it might have been a cultural thing that God allowed for as short time for procreative purposes or something else. Thirdly, Solomon had knowledge that came from wisdom but did not use the wisdom that God gave him as a gift when it came to foreign wives. As for the explanation, Mule, that is interesting! First, he went against the commandment God gave that prohibited Hebrew men to marry foreign wives. Why was that? The reason is because in those days foreign wives worshipped foreign gods and that is why God did not want the Jews to marry them. The same thing happened to Samson. As for God spoiling him, God does not spoil. God could have decided to not show his mercy, compassion, and patience when Solomon, David, etc did these things, but he decided to. He wanted to show that even the culture was crazy, he could bring good out of the evil. That may not be an answer to your question but it might help us to understand what Solomon, David, etc was thinking. Plus, just because a king had concubines, wives, etc does not mean he had sex with all of them. That is an assumption, that I believe is not biblically supported by the Hebrew Scriptures. God bless.

The customs of those times and authority of kings etc permitted this type of behavior, man was given a free will to choose Gods ways or there own! (religious or otherwise)eg many of Gods food laws we would take today as just hygiene, but back then they were a ritualized, etc ..I would not say God spoiled him ..loosing your good standing with God or eternal life is very sad...for what shall a man give for his soul..!?..eternity is a bit longer than this trial period called life (true love (within Gods care) of one man and one woman and salvation is worth more than a thousand...)
