Okay this is a subject that I want to hear yiour thoughts on.

In the bible it says that women should submit to there husbands.

In ALL situations should women submit to there husbands?

How do you percieve the word "submit" as and what do you think "submit to husbands" actually means?

Thanks

Nice book...would be very helpfull for you to read.
You may find out public opinion will be widespread
on this subject.

It also instructs husbands to be the right kind of husband. (equally illusive as the submissive wife)
A good husband does not make worthless or self centered requests of his wife.

These combinations are few in life.

But you can still embrace the example set forth, because it is a model of the relationship between:
Yeshua and the church.
YHWH and mankind.
Holy Spirit and your Spirit.

They are to cling together and become "one"

Before the fall, even though Adam was physically stronger than Eve, she did not perceive herself as "submissive" and he did not perceive himself as "dominant"

They were simply notes together in a song. It will be restored in the end.

Well, good thing my Husbands name is Jesus.
When it says to submit to your husband it needs to include husbands love your wives as Jesus loves the church. You will have confidence that your husband would never let you down or harm you. You can trust you are safe in his care. That he would give his life for you.
Just as when you submit to God you give up your authority and accept His. You let God lead the way.

Gen 17v18-21, 21v8-14:

'And Abraham said to God, "Oh, that Ishmael might live before You!" Then God said: "No, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his descendants after him. And as for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly. He shall beget twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation. But My covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this set time next year."...So the child grew and was weaned. And Abraham made a great feast on the same day that Isaac was weaned. And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, scoffing. Therefore she said to Abraham,"Cast out this bondwoman and her son; for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, namely with Isaac." And the matter was very displeasing in Abraham's sight because of his son. But God said to Abraham, "Do not let it be displeasing in your sight because of the lad or because of your bondwoman. Whatever Sarah has said to you, listen to her voice; for in Isaac your seed shall be called. Yet I will also make a nation of the son of the bondwoman, because he is your seed." So Abraham rose early in the morning, and took bread and a skin of water; and putting it on her shoulder, he gave it and the boy to Hagar, and sent her away.'

Abraham got it wrong big time, so God told him to LISTEN to his wife Sarah and to do what she said!

Husbands, need to LISTEN to what their wives are saying, for quite often they are right when the husband is wrong!

Yahweh Shalom...

Eph 5:22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
Eph 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
Eph 5:24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
Eph 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
Eph 5:27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Eph 5:28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
Eph 5:29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
Eph 5:30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

Yes, "submit to" or "be under obedience to" is what it means in the dictionary (strong's) for Eph5:22. Song of Solomon is also nice for husbands, plus JaumeJ's post. Your husband would have to be Christian, plus be telling you to do something which does not contradict the Bible. A Christian man does not boss his wife around anyway, although he may give her his advice or opinion.God bless, I know when I was single that verse worried me. lol

Reading and understanding what is written about the subject, a man is to treat his wife as he would treat himself. This says it all. It is in the quote above.

If the husband loves the Lord and lives his life eagerly to please the Lord (includes loving you), you should have no trouble submitting to Him.

If the husband doesn't love the Lord, or is out of the Lord's will and does not seek the Lord with all his heart, mind, soul and strength, (but still loves you) I'd say submit to him anyway, as long is it doesn't conflict with the obedience the Lord, His word, for in then maybe the husband may see Christ through the wife's living in obedience. Pray for him.

But, if the husband is abusive, get out of there, pray for him , and don't submit to him. Keep the door open and give him ample time to for reconciliation.

But hey, I'm not a marriage counselor either or expert on marriage, the Lord is still teaching me how to love. Dang it LORD, help me!

Men and women should have equal respect for each other.

It has to do with the meaning of the Greek words, but a simple way to say it is that for purposes of starting the family, the wife needs to submit to the husband. For the ministry of raising new heirs for the Kingdom of God, they need to seek God together as equal partners. This last statement is true whether the new heirs come from their bodies, or from their joint ministry among the saints.

My daughter’s husband goes to church. He tells his wife to obey him, it is scripture. But he finds ways to abuse without actually striking her. He doesn’t share money, but doles out as little as possible while looking over anything she spends. He is well off. He is critical to the point of abuse. He loves to hurt, for instance promising the children something and denying at the last minute. She cries daily. She tries so hard to obey!

Don't try and guess my motive, but is your son-in-law Jewish?

Col 3:15-21 Amplified Version

15 And let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts [deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds, in that peaceful state] to which as [members of Christ’s] one body you were also called [to live]. And be thankful (appreciative), [giving praise to God always].
16 Let the word [spoken by] Christ (the Messiah) have its home [in your hearts and minds] and dwell in you in [all its] richness, as you teach and admonish and train one another in all insight and intelligence and wisdom [in spiritual things, and as you sing] psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, making melody to God with [His] grace in your hearts.
17 And whatever you do [no matter what it is] in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus and in [dependence upon] His Person, giving praise to God the Father through Him.
18 Wives, be subject to your husbands [subordinate and adapt yourselves to them], as is right and fitting and your proper duty in the Lord.
19 Husbands, love your wives [be affectionate and sympathetic with them] and do not be harsh or bitter or resentful toward them.
20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this is pleasing to the Lord.
21 Fathers, do not provoke or irritate or fret your children [do not be hard on them or harass them], lest they become discouraged and sullen and morose and feel inferior and frustrated. [Do not break their spirit.]

He is Baptist. He is not following baptist teaching. His ethnic background is a mixure of English, German, and Scamdinavian. Does this make a difference?

Well there are all kinds of baptists, I'll keep your daughter in your prayers, bless her heart for sticking it out thus far.

I was just curious and no it does not make much difference. Why do you think he is so abusive in the way you have described it? Is he insecure about his position as a husband and father in the home or was he like that prior to knowing your daughter? There are temperaments that men develop that are never kind and very self oriented and always have to have the upper hand and final word in everything. That is a difficult thing for a man to change. That kind of temperament usually has to be humbled by a series of circumstances and situations they can not control yet have to live with and be subject to the outcome. These kind of men can be a pain in the toosh to live with and seem to get worse over time.

Thanks so very much for your prayers for both of them.

I think, Red, that his abuse comes from a lack of self esteem. When she worked outside the home she made much more than he can. Her grades in college were much higher than any he could achieve.

I truly wonder what God wants her to do in this situation. She feels that it is to obey all she can. There are examples of God giving help to women who had been mistreated. My daughter feels that leaving him is not an option even to consider. But having the children hurt, having her cry daily, etc. is not in God’s will.

We know the ideal situation, where the wife supports her husband in all ways, and the husband supports his wife and leads the team they make. But how does God want us to handle it when things go wrong?

May Yahvah God and Yahshua the Messiah fill her with strength, comfort and guidance.

May your son in law be guided away from his unkind ways and stop the controlling behavior.
