Hebrews 3 speaks of entering God's rest. The Hebrews didn't enter it because of many disobediences to God, they tried God's last 'patience,' He was faithful, but then He said, gasp! , ' these people will not enter My rest.'

Is it really possible to win the race to rest before we get to Heaven?

Is this what is meant by: 'Repent, for the kingdom.of Heaven is at hand!' ?

What does this mean, Christ peeps :)

Oooh, Heaven is a.... ;)

Ok, great, nice opinion.

S'more?

Oh, by the way, for those out of the know (any rodents in our midst ;) ), the people= the Israelites.
Moses' never-ending complaining charges :(

Now, another question. Was God really the one who was unfaithful?
Did He promise the Izzys His rest ever? What does Exodus tell us of this question?

Any other speaking of 'rest' in Scripture, that is of God's?

Rest is trust in God. The children of Israel did not trust God. Period.
They believed in Him..they had evidences daily. Leave em alone a
couple weeks and they call on other gods for help. And whine whine whined.

Same with your faith in the gospel...do you believe it or do you trust yourself.
Rest is an assurance that no matter what God will keep you. No matter what happens
whether your living in a cave or sawn asunder.

Rest is not talking about the physical labor we have to do or the suffering or
the work involved in our spiritual duties. But our hearts and minds can rest in
the faithfulness of God. That all things will work out for good.

If your gona ask me if that involves obedience to His commands id say of
coarse it does, thats what belief does. And that was the sin of the Israelites
unbelief....that what God told them to do was good and right.

Hebrews says the works were done before the foundation of the world.

Perspective on just what God swore the Hebrews would NOT do:

Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;

2 Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.

3 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.

4 For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.

5 And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;

6 But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.

7 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,

8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:

9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.

10 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.

11 So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)

12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;

Eg, could you more detailedly explain what is God's rest ? This is a quote below you gave, between you, and, rein, and, cee, you're the inspiration of this thread :)

The Lord leads. :)

I am justifed freely by the blood of Christ which has washed all my sin.

I have the ability to enter his rest BECAUSE I was justified. But I have to work for it. If I do not work hard enough, i will never enter his rest, and lose many rewards, but I am STILL justified freely. --
Romans 3:24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

so why are you still trying to work to earn justification, when it was paid for (redeemed) by Christ?
I'm not working to earn my justification, I'm at.....
Also, my rest is in Him now, like you said , though not perfect, you 'try your best to be sanctified,' I too do these things and, according to Scripture, could you and I both be at rest now :) are you obeying Him in your life right now at this stage of your existence :)

....rest . ;) :)

you 'try your best to be sanctified,'
May I cut in? *ellie dances, but hopefully not around her point...* :)

I just wanted to say WHEW! *wipes imaginary sweat from brow*
I am so far beyond glad I don't have to try my best to be sanctified! If it depended on me, it would be a hot mess, as the children say. I see you placed that phrase in quotes, which is good. :)

Because He Who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it.
The Author and perfecter of our faith.
We all know I could go on, but I feel merciful, so I won't. ;)
Besides, I honestly do feel like doing the happy dance right now.

I hope it's not like the one David did before the Lord in the streets of the city of David after the ark had returned, his wife got upset over that (2Sam 6:14-23) because he had only a fine white linen priestly garment draped over him. LOL I don't think I know of any former baptist who does a happy dance.

Rest in Christ.... What is it? Imagine a man that:
Needs NOTHING!
Wants NOTHING!
Worry NOTHING!
Lacking NOTHING!
Asks NOTHING!
Taking NOTHING!
Wavering NOTHING!
Careful for NOTHING!
Stressing NOTHING!
Forcing NOTHING!
This man is so content that he has a peace about him that CANNOT be disrupted or desturbed! This man is so at "REST" in his soul, as God is in heaven. This man is so free from what the earth wants and needs, that he is filled with GOD! This man is so full of God that he does not want ANY OF THE WORLD OR GOD! How can he want more of God if he is already filled with GOD? This is REST IN CHRIST is ALL FORFILING! Is it heaven? Well it is God that filled the man, so IS GOD's Spirit in a man: HEAVEN?

I know it is Kingdom/paradise, because this man is NOT OF THIS WORLD as Jesus is not of this world. If you say you have the Holy Spirit in you, you will have this peace and rest in you as well. It only comes with the Holy Spirit. Are you worried ANY time? Where is that Holy Spirit and his rest/peace now? Nope once received the rest, it will be stupid to exit that rest!

Jesus does not offer rest some days and unrest other days? Paul even saw his chains as a blessing! Jesus even died on a cross, and said.... FATHER FORGIVE THEM.... Same as Stephen when they stoned him... Forgive them.... That iswhat that rest/peace brings. A permenant rest and peace, even if they murder this man, he will be at rest/peace.

Has to be from God, because it is perfect rest and peace!

The rest is you finally are freed from works even though you still work it is no longer you that work but God through you does. We only become a vessel used by God through our free choice for God to do this

If your gona ask me if that involves obedience to His commands id say of
coarse it does, thats what belief does. And that was the sin of the Israelites
unbelief....that what God told them to do was good and right.

Hebrews says the works were done before the foundation of the world.
They had the supernatural intervention through the hand of Moses and Aaron to lead them out of Egypt and through the Red Sea. They had the cloud by day and the fire by night to lead them in the wilderness. Their shoes and clothing did not wear out, they were feed manna and quail from heaven, they received water from a rock and had the promise of a land to be given to them that was flowing with milk and honey. With all of this the children of Israel murmured, complained, brought evil reports, fornicated, were idolaters while they ate and drank and rose up to play. The generation that left Egypt died in the wilderness and never entered the promise land of rest, with the exception of Joshua and Caleb. They entered not because of unbelief in the promise of God despite all the supernatural measures of mercy and grace that was afforded them in the wilderness starting with the exodus.

This is what (Heb 4) is all about, entering into His rest through the promise of God that starts with the gospel and promise of the Son when we believe (Heb 4:3). When we believe upon the Son we are given and have entered into His rest because He gives it to us (Mt 11:28,29, Heb 4:8) and it is signified through the earnest (deposit) of the Spirit (2Cor 1:22, 5:5) that indwells the believer. Through the Spirit, who reveals the finished work of the Son in our hearts, we cease from our own labours and works of righteousness in the flesh and take on the righteousness of Christ by faith. This rest that is given by the Lord to the believer is His righteousness imputed by faith, His gift of eternal life and salvation given by grace through faith... and over (60) other divine imputations that happen instantly. All these divine imputations are given through the promises of faith and they are all 'yea' and 'amen' and none of them are 'nay' for the believer (2Cor 1:20).

This rest that we have been given by the Lord is here and now for the believer starting with the salvation of our soul. We have no continuing city of rest (or peace) on earth at present but we seek one to come (Heb 13:14-25). Our bodies will have it's final resting place when they puts on incorruption and immortality at the resurrection (2Tim 1:10, Rom 2:7, 1Cor 15:51-55) when the dead and those who remain alive in Christ are raised up to meet the Lord in the air and all the works done in our body will be judged and tried by fire (1Thes 4:17, 1Cor 3:12-15, 2Cor 5:10) then shall every man have praise of God (1Cor 4:5).

I'm not going to answer any one person but, in so answering, the Lord leads, I have faith I will answer all.

Faith. Grace. All wrapped in God's great mercy, Love, forgiveness :)

This is the key, Christ peeps. Faith in Jesus' finished work that saved ALL our lives, both, one, is His grace, Him dying, living, forgiving, and, His Spirit, by faith, His Holy Spirit receiving. :)

This rest comes from these TWO components, if you will, of your having decided initially to use your faith, that is the ABILITY to believe in Him. ALL have it, do you want to use it to believe in Him with your for-given measure, Or not. The choice, it's YOURS.

Once done, IF you have become saved, gotten into the Word then, talked to pastor, plugged into a church, asked someone saved to baptize you in water and Holy Spirit, all these precise doings only after having FIRST prayed to God then you're at what, Christ peeps?

Rest assured , having dine the above things of THIS graph, God will come on your life like a might storm, wholly well pleased with your ways of becoming more and more sanctified because He wants you to 'be ye holy as He is holy.

Now, this is the Way to His great eternal rest, but, can we live in His moment for us, though we are NOT perfect but targeting perfect for our life because Christ desires this of us? You bet we can !

The Spirit will lead you peacably to do great things. In fact, people speak of getting gifts of prophecy, speaking in tongues as needed for being in God's will. Absolutely not ! We only need to be one thing: letting the Lord lead our lives, for the Lot leads.

Simple we are both justified by grace AND faith, so, show God you understand both, cane, you, my Christbros and Christsis' will be in perfect rest.

Heaven on earth ? Yes, hmmm, keep running the race, trying your best to be Holy, perfect, a living sacrifice, and, life after earth is, hmmm, I'm speechless :) , but, YES, unequivocally, even unimaginably even to you, by being one with your spirit with His Spirit, which Scripture states is Truth, you can be in the presence of God, as long as you obey Him, you are NOT seeking rest , you are ALREADY 'resting' in Him. :)

I think the scriptures you showed here speak to our final rest in Jesus. :)
But also to the rest we can know while here, its all about Jesus though.
Jesus said we need to set aside all flesh and follow Him.
We can now this rest in part.
As there are times when Ive felt it, although brief, simply because flesh gets in the way.
But it is trully when with love, one trusts everything, and gives everything, and accepts everything given in Jesus to Gods will , righousness and love.
When there is no self, only Jesus!

For now we know only in part, seeing darkly through the mirror, but then the perfect comes, and then we shall see, face to face!

His Spirit , through faith in His Truth, to believe, to understand, to grasp, will lead us, quickly, to His 'rest,' both here, and, there.

Very well said, my pickled one , milady. I pray He is leading you greatly now, as you 'rest.' :)

The thing is?
I often ponder scripture and how we keep looking here or there,
when scripture says that we are dead to flesh with Jesus, Jesus's Spirit lives now in us, so we live in Jesus.
God said I am.
Now do not quote me, as Im just learning still, but somehow it seems that knowing and finding Jesus, God, is not about being over here or up there, but being , in His presance, simply trusting being in Jesus to God, because God said I am.
But maby Im overthinking it all too much. :)

Pickles, where am I when I am IN JESUS? Where is Jesus if He is in me? All I know it is the SAME PLACE, wheter it is here or there! Jesus said YOU are the TEMPLE. If I am God's Temple, God is there where I am and I am where God is.

This is how I know where God is..... Jesus cleaned out the temple, before He destroyed it...and He said.... Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up...... HAHAHA, the people did not understand, for it took fourty six years to build that one Jesus cleaned and destroyed.... And in three days Jesus did build the TEMPLE OF HIS BODY...

It is this TEMPLE OUR BODY IS AS WELL.... LOOK Jesus said the Temple, His brothers, and mothers are ALL WHO ARE FULL OF LIGHT AND HAVING NO PART OF DARKNESS.... That is how clean Jesus cleansed it.

So for me..... ALL BODIES OF LIGHT WITH NO PART OF DARKNESS IS THE BODY OF CHRIST... And that BODY is at rest/peace! Thank God for that or we will have no peace or rest here on earth! The Bible also talks about a FALSE PEACE/REST/LIBERTY... While these persons offers Liberty to other people, they themselves are the servants of corruption, overcome with sin. 2 Peter 2:19.

How many times did I see a sinner say.... Go in peace, and the peace of God does with you... How quickly does a Muslim say...PEace be to you and your family. How can a person that is NOT IN CHRIST, have peace, or have peace to offer? They can fool themselves, but not me, I judge too accurately. I have to much knowledge about the peace GOD AND JESUS offers... IT IS TRULY A REST and a SET FREE from ALL EVIL!

The Bible says this... God KNOWS to DELIVER His children from evil.... And that is the place I want to be! I will seek it with all I can muster, no matter what Abiding or Eternally grateful or any person says.... I will SEEK God's righteousness and kingdom FIRST, and then God will do as HE pleases with me.

May I ask.... Father, let thou Kingdom come, Let thou will be done in me as it is done in heaven, deliver me from evil, For thine is the power, the Glory and the Kingdom, FOREVER, Amen!

I do agree cobus, its just , some times Im not sure how to put to words, to explain it all.
All I know is that one never finds this in flesh or the world or anything they think will work or from their own will.
Its all about Gods will, knowladge, understanding, power, grace, salvation and love given in Jesus Christ is Lord come in the flesh.
