It is necessary for us to obey the Lord’s commandments, but he wants us to enjoy our lives. (His commandments make it possible for us to do that.)

Yes I agree that God wants us to enjoy life, but is now the time? I'm not going to pass up the opprtunity to suffer for the name of Christ, cause this may be my only time to do so. I know that helping others in exchange for enjoying life right now is not too much to ask.

The time may be different for different people. In 1972, after I was saved, when I was in full time ministry, the Lord told me I would have to suffer a lot, and I did. He also told me when I am old, I will be free to whatever I like (as long as it's not sinful, of course).

When I completed the 9 years of ministry, He told me again, that when I got old, I would be free to enjoy whatever I wanted.

When I approached retirement, say 4 years ago, He told me again. And again two years ago, and 1 year ago, and last month, etc.

Lately, everything I ask Him if I should do, He just reminds me of that. If I tell Him I need something to enjoy life, He provides it. But He has made it clear. He simply okays what I want to do; He does not assign me to anything anymore, except very short term, and always in line with my choices.

Again, this is very personal, and Jon, you do whatever God says.

I think that you should take joy in life every single day because you are able to wake up and get out of bed. Just having the Holy spirit living inside of you is a constant flow of joy. Heck if you are really close to God you take joy in your suffering because you know its for Him. That is so cool to just be happy no matter what hardships face you down because you know that our God is ALWAYS with you and that it is probably lesson time if it hurts. I am joyful every single morning I wake up. I try to find that happiness and the hidden miracles that are for us to find in each day. Happiness is a choice and a mindset. I chose to always be happy despite the hardships and the suffering.

now you people have me curious....did Jesus enjoy going to the cross? I think He forsook a lot of enjoyment in life to save us and to serve God and He is our model...I do agree that there is a fulfilment in serving God so we are to count it all joy when we are faced with persecution
