I got this quote from another thread, and in not wanting to re direct that thread off subject I decided to start a new one.
You are right that once people are dead.. they are in heaven or hell. Not on earth.. not in purgary.
This is wrong. When you die you either go directly to Heaven or directly to Hell. Soul sleep is a false mainly Jehovah Witness teaching.

I'm sorry if I'm sounding stupid but aren't you both saying the same thing just different ways? Not trying to argue just that I asked the question and I don't want to be confused.

To be fair the Adventist movement from the 19th Century in the USA holds to soul sleep and annaliationism but I would not call it heresy or disqualify a person from fellowship because of that.

Although its common in seventh days, I have come across that belief with individuals who have bought it, baptist, presbyterians, anglicans.

Actually I disagree somewhat as I believe that Hell is here somewhere in the bowels of earth and it is a real place

The scripture does not tell us the geographical location of hell but it is definitely a real place.

Actually Jesus tells us I believe it is in Matthew 12, that just as Jonah was in the belly of the whale for 3 days so He would be in the belly of the earth for 3 days. So that definitely suggest that Hell is in the belly of center of the earth.

Here we go it is Matthew 12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Heart of the earth was the exact phrasing He used but it still indicate that Hell is in the center of the earth.

so correct me if im wrong, when a christian dies, his soul goes straight to heaven?and when an unbeleiver dies his soul goes straight to hell?

years ago i went to this presbytherian church and they taught that the soul of beleiver goes to this place..i forgot what they called it but it wasnt heaven and the soul of unbeleiver goes to another place..so all beleivers souls togheter in one place and unbeleivers souls togheter in a nother place waiting for judgement day to be re united with their body and than cast into heaven or hell
soo all this is not true?

Doesn't "heart of the earth" mean Jesus in His tomb/grave?
"For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth" (King James Version)

Matthew 12:40 "Jonah was in the stomach of the big fish for three days and three nights. In the same way, the Son of Man will be in the grave three days and three nights" (New Century Version)

Are you saying hell is in the earth's core? The bible says in Luke 21:33 "Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away". Hell is eternal-it cannot pass away, so it cannot be a physical place but a supernatural place.

Lemme take a stab at it...

Was it Sheol?

:p

Yeah, a lot of bible translations/version translate the following words into "hell": gehenna, abyss, lake of fire, Hades, Sheol.

And likewise for Heaven (third Heaven, Kingdom of God, the City of God, not sky or 2nd heaven etc.) but not as often as hell: Abraham's bosom and Paradise.

Both Abraham's Bosom and Paradise were in Sheol. Prior to Jesus resurrection no one went to "Heaven", the Kingdom, save maybe Enoch and Elijah but hereto there's debate.

Various denominations all have their takes on what the words mean/are but it's really not as confusing as it sounds.

Some sects of Judaism have/had a kind of purgatory-esque view of the after-life. Anywoot, if you want you can check out some of the background on these words/places below, by clicking on the words (don't worry, you won't be whisked away to an Orthodox site but instead to the Jewish encyclopedia site.

SHEOL (Hades is synonymous with Sheol so Jesus must have been speaking Greek)

ABADDON (worth taking a look at in regards to Sheol)

GEHENNA

PURGATORY (yes, this is in the Jewish encyclopedia)

ABRAHAM'S BOSOM

KADDISH

ABYSS

#1 The New century version is obviously wrong. The King James has it correct. This does not mean that Jesus would be in the grave for 3 days, but in the heart or center of the earth for 3 days.
#2 Yes, Hell is in the core of the earth , and no Hell is not eternal, the lake of fire is. Hell itself will be cast into the lake of fire. So when the earth passes away after the Millennium, and after the White throne Judgment, Hell would have already been moved from where it is now, and cast into the lake of fire.

God Bless you starfield, I hope this helps your understanding.

Revelation 20
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire
