Torment on earth, day and night makes more sense to me, coming from my own view that I come from.

Please do not twist what I said!!! The reference to the smoke of their torment rising up forever and ever and not having any rest day or night, is referring to torment in the lake of fire, not the earth. Then I added that there will also be torment on the earth before the lake of fire on the earth via the seals, trumpets and bowl judgment, as well as in Hades.

Also, there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked. The word "anastasis" translated "resurrection" refers to "a bodily standing up again." Also, at the great white throne judgment, those spirits who are in Hades will be released and reunited with their resurrected bodies, which is what they be in when they are sent to the lake of fire.

Not trying to twist, just my view is expressed differently.

Looking at Revelation 14:11

and the smoke of their torment doth go up to ages of ages; and they have no rest day and night, who are bowing before the beast and his image, also if any doth receive the mark of his name.

Which is talking about people who are bowing before the beast, following his image, and taking the mark of his name, they wouldn't have rest day or not because they would be following the beast, because they would have received the mark of pledging allegiance to Him.

**This the way I look at it spiritually at the moment maybe I am wrong:

The smoke of their torment going up forever and ever is this like from people today and their own anger, and not having any rest, because of unbelief, in God. Always complaining and restlessly day and night, because they can't enter God's rest, because they have unbelief, and have yet to repent (change their mind towards) God.

It is not "who are bowing" which would infer present tense on the earth. The smoke of their torment and having no rest day or night, is the eternal result of worshiping the beast, his image and receiving his mark. The smoke of their torment and not having any rest day or night takes place after they are judged at the great white throne judgment and that because their names are not found written in the book of life.

Greetings Carl11,
It always amazes me when people claim that eternal punishment isn't eternal and then they get rid of the evidence of the rich man and Lazarus by reducing it to a parable, taking away its literal meaning and then say "show me the scriptural evidence."

First of all, the rich man and Lazarus (RMAL) is not a parable, but was a literal event that Jesus was/is conveying. Parables use symbolism to represent the literal, where the event of the RMAL uses the real names of Abraham, Lazarus, Moses, the prophets and the literal location of Hades, as well as referring to the rich man's father and five brothers. And second, if you read the RMAL at face value, it means what it says. A deeper study is not going to lead anyone to it being a parable. On the contrary, a deeper study of the RMAL will lead the reader to understand that both Lazarus and the rich man died, but there spirits departed and went down under the earth to Sheol/Hades, with one area being a place of comfort/paradise and the other a place of torment, which is where the rich man went and which was separated by a great chasm. The rich man, Abraham and Lazarus were all conscious and aware, where the rich man was on the other side of the chasm in torment in flame. That is what a deeper study tells us. So tell us, what do you with the following scripture:

”A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice: “If anyone worships the beast and his image and receives his mark on their forehead or on their hand, they, too, will drink the wine of God’s fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. They will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever. There will be no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and his image, or for anyone who receives the mark of his name.”

In order to experience the smoke of their torment rising forever and having no rest day or night, the individual would have to exist, being conscious and aware.
The reason the rich man's name was not mentioned because he was not a child of God, his name was not written down in exchange Lazarus name was. Some examples of this can be found for example in the book of Mt. 7:23 where it is referring to judgment day and he says to the unsaved I never knew you. Likewise In 2Tim. 2:19 and Jn. 10:14 we have the reference that God knew these certain individuals and if he knew them he knew by their name.

If all of the verses refer to torment then why is God referring to torment in vs 25 as sorrow and how does sorrow relate to torment ?

As far as eternal punishment is concerned it is eternal, it is not just for a little while. Jud. 1:7

As far as the scripture you provided it has to be understood figuratively in that the judgment that is happening to them is eternal, there are many verses that show once the unsaved die they are dead they are not experience judgment. They have no rest because they do not have Christ, they have never truly become saved, they do not have eternal life.

The rich-man and the beggar Lazarus is a prophecy for the remnant of the 12 tribes that are left in blindness. When Jesus went to the grave He went to hell like Jonah did as He was awake the whole time. When the trumps start sounding there is 3 1/2 years until the return and during that time the 144,000 are sealed and on the day of the resurrection which starts right after the 7 vials are poured. The man was a member of the temple and the ones that die during that time enter the grave so rather than let them sleep Jesus has the keys to hell so they can be sent there until the day of their resurrection back to life. I assume this verse provides a strong enough connection.

Lu:16:27-31:
Then he said,
I pray thee therefore,
father,
that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
For I have five brethren;
that he may testify unto them,
lest they also come into this place of torment.
Abraham saith unto him,
They have Moses and the prophets;
let them hear them.
And he said,
Nay,
father
Abraham:
but if one went unto them from the dead,
they will repent.
And he said unto him,
If they hear not Moses and the prophets,
neither will they be persuaded,
though one rose from the dead.

If all of the verses refer to torment then why is God referring to torment in vs 25 as sorrow and how does sorrow relate to torment ?
This is what happens to the Gentiles that die on the day of His return because they are sinners. This is what they experience during that whole period of time.

Isa:65:12:
Therefore will I number you to the sword,
and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter:
because when I called,
ye did not answer;
when I spake,
ye did not hear;
but did evil before mine eyes,
and did choose that wherein I delighted not.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD,
Behold,
my servants shall eat,
but ye shall be hungry:
behold,
my servants shall drink,
but ye shall be thirsty:
behold,
my servants shall rejoice,
but ye shall be ashamed:
Behold,
my servants shall sing for joy of heart,
but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart,
and shall howl for vexation of spirit.

As far as eternal punishment is concerned it is eternal, it is not just for a little while. Jud. 1:7
All of Jude is about fallen angels rather than fallen men. These cover man's time in the grave, for everybody.

Job:14:12-17:
So man lieth down,
and riseth not:
till the heavens be no more,
they shall not awake,
nor be raised out of their sleep.
O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave,
that thou wouldest keep me secret,
until thy wrath be past,
that thou wouldest appoint me a set time,
and remember me!
If a man die, shall he live again?
all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.
Thou shalt call,
and I will answer thee:
thou wilt have a desire to the work of thine hands.
For now thou numberest my steps:
dost thou not watch over my sin?
My transgression is sealed up in a bag,
and thou sewest up mine iniquity.

As far as the scripture you provided it has to be understood figuratively in that the judgment that is happening to them is eternal, there are many verses that show once the unsaved die they are dead they are not experience judgment. They have no rest because they do not have Christ, they have never truly become saved, they do not have eternal life.
Really?

M't:25:41:
Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand,
Depart from me,
ye cursed,
into everlasting fire,
prepared for the devil and his angels:

All fallen angels on the earth were put into the Pit during the flood by 10,000 holy angels. Enoch provides the prophecy and Moses provides the confirmation that is is an historical event.

Jude:1:14:
And Enoch also,
the seventh from Adam,
prophesied of these,
saying,
Behold,
the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,

De:33:2:
And he said,
The LORD came from Sinai,
and rose up from Seir unto them;
he shined forth from mount Paran,
and he came with ten thousands of saints:
from his right hand went a fiery law for them.

The Beast from the Pit is allowed out at the start of the 5th trump sounding and he is given 42 months before he is sent to the fiery lake. Satan has not been in the Pit and that is why Jesus chains him up and puts him there. When he is let out for his 'little season' that is just where God sends him and all remaining fallen angels.

The men sent to hell are behind a locked gate and that gate remains locked until it is opened by God at the Great White Throne and they are raised sinless rather than still in sin so they are given a drink of living water and that gives them an immortal body and a sinless heart. All of Isaiah:65 is about the ones called 'the rest;' in Re:20 and they make their homes outside the walls of New Jerusalem as that is the one that exists in the new earth verses.

Hello MHZ,

The rich-man and the beggar Lazarus is a prophecy for the remnant of the 12 tribes that are left in blindness.

The rich man and Lazarus is meant for everyone, both Jew and Gentile. There is nothing in the context that would restrict the meaning as only being directed the 12 tribes. There are both Jew and Gentile entering into Sheol/Hades daily, not just Jews. It demonstrates that there conscious awareness of the spirit after the death of the body and that there is a place of torment for those who die without faith and that there is no coming back. When the rich man asked to have Lazarus sent from the dead to his father's house to warn his five brothers, Abraham said that they had Moses and the prophets (word of God) to warn them so that they didn't come to that place of torment.

According to Phil.1:23 and 2 Cor.5:6, when the righteous die, their spirit departs from the body and goes immediately to be in the presence of the Lord. When the unfaithful die, their spirit departs from the body and goes down into Sheol/Hades where they will be in torment in flame until the time of the great white throne judgment, which takes place after the millennial kingdom. Therefore, all of the spirits of the unrighteous, whether Jew or Gentile, at the time of death their spirit goes into Sheol/Hades.

Other than the mention of Moses as he was the first High Priest to the 12 tribes.
There are both Jew and Gentile entering into Sheol/Hades daily, not just Jews.
He represents the Prieshood of the 12 tribes. His robe matches some text Moses wrote
What I said was that hell is empty until the 5th trump sounds and in the 3 1/2 years that follow Satan is allowed to kill 1/3 of the planet and the 144,000 are the only survivors that see that day arrive without going to the grave. In that space of time the members that die can go to hell if that is justified. They cannot be in hell later than the day the 7th trump sounds as the resurrection has to be completed by the evening of the same day. Before the start of that all the Gentile sinners that die that day go to hell and they remain there until God unlocks the gate at the GWT event. At best there is a 30 minute overlap due to the 7th seal prophecy.

It demonstrates that there conscious awareness of the spirit after the death of the body and that there is a place of torment for those who die without faith and that there is no coming back.
Totally false, hell is emptied at the GWT and then hell, rather than the former residents, is thrown into the fiery lake which represents it's eternal destruction. There is no way back from the fiery lake but the only ones sent there are the fallen angels.
.
When the rich man asked to have Lazarus sent from the dead to his father's house to warn his five brothers, Abraham said that they had Moses and the prophets (word of God) to warn them so that they didn't come to that place of torment.
What?? The rich man is not in hell forever, the request was so nobody else close to them would enter hell. Dod you think the rich-man knew he was in hell for not giving food to the poor. We are given the same instruction in James:2 so the punishment would be the same. Hell is open for the 12 tribes during that time because the blind ones are the ones that are the harlot. Check out each item in the description and compare it with the first temple in the OT. This reference is one of the better ones for determining who the harlot is.

Re:18:7:
How much she hath glorified herself,
and lived deliciously,
so much torment and sorrow give her: f
or she saith in her heart,
I sit a queen,
and am no widow,
and shall see no sorrow.

La:1:1-3:
How doth the city sit solitary,
that was full of people!
how is she become as a widow!
she that was great among the nations,
and princess among the provinces,
how is she become tributary!
She weepeth sore in the night,
and her tears are on her cheeks:
among all her lovers she hath none to comfort her:
all her friends have dealt treacherously with her,
they are become her enemies.
Judah is gone into captivity because of affliction,
and because of great servitude:
she dwelleth among the heathen,
she findeth no rest:
all her persecutors overtook her between the straits.

Really? Here is how the grave works until hell is open for business when the 5th trump sounds. Post your reference material for this point please.

Ec:3:20:
All go unto one place;
all are of the dust,
and all turn to dust again.

Ec:12:7:
Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was:
and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

Ec:9:10:
Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do,
do it with thy might;
for there is no work,
nor device,
nor knowledge,
nor wisdom,
in the grave, whither thou goest.

The 7,000 men that die in a quake just before the 7th trump sounds would represent the last of the people that enter the grave and go to sleep like Lazarus was in the prophecy.

Perhaps it is these verses below that you are referencing, they are part of the passage that takes up all of Da:11 and the last verse in that chapter is about a Tabernacle erected tb the two kings in that chapter.

Da:12:1-3:
And at that time shall Michael stand up,
the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people:
and there shall be a time of trouble,
such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time:
and at that time thy people shall be delivered,
every one that shall be found written in the book.
And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake,
some to everlasting life,
and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament;
and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

The book contains all names and believers are resurrected and living sinners go to hell. The sleeping dead that are not believers keep on sleeping until the GWT event and when they are raised their sins are left behind.

The event of the rich man an Lazarus has nothing to do with the twelve tribes. You're reading into the context what is not there. It is a lesson for all people. And nothing that you wrote on this post changes that.

What I said was that hell is empty until the 5th trump sounds and in the 3 1/2 years that follow Satan is allowed to kill 1/3 of the planet
Hell/Sheol/Hades has been filling up throughout all of history till this very hour. The 5th trumpet/1st woe is when those demonic beings resembling locusts are released from the Abyss, not Hades. At the sounding of the 5th trumpet, no one is killed, for it only for the purpose of tormenting the inhabitants of the earth with stings like that of a scorpion, for this is what the scripture states:

"They were told not to kill them but to torture them for five months with pain like the pain of a scorpion sting. In those days people will seek death but will not find it. They will long to die, but death will flee from them!

Therefore, there is no death associated with the 5th trumpet. It is at the 6th trumpet that a third of the population is killed and that by those four angels and their demonic army of 200 million, and that is just from the 6th. It does not include the fourth of the earths population that will be killed as a result of the first four seals, nor of the fatalities of trumpets 1, 2 and 3 nor of the fatalities that result from the bowl judgments. I would also point out that the seals, trumpets and bowl judgments are God's wrath, not Satan's wrath. God will be using the powers of darkness to fulfill His will by pouring out His wrath upon the earth.

What?? The rich man is not in hell forever, the request was so nobody else close to them would enter hell. Dod you think the rich-man knew he was in hell for not giving food to the poor. Yes, the rich man is in Hades as I write this in torment in flame. He requested of Abraham to send Lazarus back from the dead so that his five brothers wouldn't come to that same place of torment, and Abraham's response was that they could read Moses and the prophets (God's word) so that they would not go to that place. Unless you can produce scripture within the context that shows that the rich man was able to leave Hades, (which you won't), then the rich man is still there where he will be resurrected out and stand at the great white throne judgment with the rest of the unrighteous dead.

You are correct, Hades is emptied at the GWT. But right now and until the GWT takes place, Hades is filling up and has been throughout all of history. After the millennial kingdom everyone in Hades will be resurrected and will stand before God to be judged. Until then, Hades will continue to receive her unrighteous dead. After the GWT then Hades will be empty.

No, the lake of fire was created for Satan and his angels, but everyone's name not found written in the book of life will also be thrown into the lake of fire. Below is the scriptural proof for this:

"And I saw a great white throne and the one sitting on it. The earth and sky fled from his presence, but they found no place to hide. I saw the dead, both great and small, standing before God’s throne. And the books were opened, including the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to what they had done, as recorded in the books. The sea gave up its dead, and death and the grave gave up their dead. And all were judged according to their deeds. Then death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire. This lake of fire is the second death. And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire.

Those in the scripture above are the unrighteous dead, not angels. Notice that John says, "I saw the dead, both great and small standing before God's throne." The "dead" would infer human beings, not angels. And any of those unrighteous human beings whose name is not found written in the book of life will be cast into the lake of fire. Even Jesus said that human beings would be thrown into the lake of fire, as can be seen from the following scripture:

"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

The above scripture takes place when Jesus returns to the earth to end the age and separates the sheep from the goats, which are those he is speaking to saying "depart from into everlasting fire."

When those in Christ die, their spirits depart from the body and go immediately to be in the presence of the Lord (Phil.1:22-24, 2 Cor.5:6). When those without Christ die, their spirit departs from the body and goes into Hades where they suffer torment in flame, just as the rich man does who is still there.

At the time when the church is gathered, Jesus will bring those spirits who have died in him with him and they will be reunited with their resurrected bodies. Immediately after that, those still alive will be changed and caught up with them to meet the Lord in the air. In the mean time, the unrighteous dead will continue to pour into Hades until the GWT, which takes place after the millennial reign of Christ, where all of the unrighteous dead will be judged from the books. Anyone's name not found written in the book of life will then be thrown into the lake of fire, which is also where the beast, the false prophet, Satan and his angels will be thrown into (Rev.19:20, 20:10).

You are reading many things into scripture what is not there.

Hell is a living suffering or tribulation which all men experience in part..

Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly,And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice. Jon 2:1

Dead is dead never to rise to new spirit life forever more. God is a God of mercy .He is not merciless. He does not give mercy to one and cause the other to suffer. Mercy triumphs over a continual judgement.

He is required to get under the same law .Two different kinds of mercy. One bring a new spirit that will never die . The other a end to suffering hell in a world void of God.

James 2:13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

Its what kind of mercy is in view.

24 Reasons Why Hell Is Real
by David Shibley

Some false teachers today would like us to think that everybody will eventually get to heaven. Don't believe them.

William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army and a man who dedicated his life to lifting the poor out of sin and poverty, reportedly made this statement: "Most Christian organizations would like to send their workers to Bible college for five years. I would like to send our workers to hell for five minutes. That would prepare them for a lifetime of compassionate ministry." Booth never suggested that the desperate people he served were "already in hell." He believed in a real, eternal hell, and it drove him to rescue people from both their current plight and future perdition.

Shortly before his death in 1912, Booth warned prophetically that he saw coming to the church "forgiveness without repentance, salvation without regeneration ... a heaven without a hell."

In today's theological fog, his ominous caveat is unfolding. Even some who claim to believe the Bible are having second thoughts about eternal judgment, and others have rejected the notion of judgment altogether. The name usually given this teaching is Universalism.

Universalism basically is the belief that all people will be saved. Jesus' death and resurrection will automatically, or at least eventually, save the whole human race. Personal repentance and faith in Christ are not necessary for going to heaven. The Christian mission is reduced to announcing to people the "good news" that they are already saved.

But does Scripture teach that everyone will be saved? There is overwhelming biblical evidence to the contrary.

I'd like to offer 24 reasons to reject Universalism. You may be able to add a few of your own.

1. Jesus made both repentance and faith prerequisites for forgiveness. "Unless you repent you will all likewise perish" (Luke 13:3, NKJV). "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel" (Mark 1:15).

2. The "water of life" is offered to all, but not all receive it or even desire it. "Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely" (Rev. 22:17).

3. Scripture teaches that there will be a judgment after death. "And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment" (Heb. 9:27).

4. Those who have not had a true conversion will experience a judgment for sin that the Bible describes as "the second death." "But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death" (Rev. 21:8).

5. Contrary to Universalist beliefs, Jesus' teaching indicates that most of humanity is on a broad path that leads to destruction. "'Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able. When once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, "Lord, Lord, open for us," and He will answer and say to you, "I do not know you, where you are from. ... Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity"'" (Luke 13:24-27).

6. Jesus spoke often of a terrible place of judgment for those outside His kingdom rule. "'The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth'" (Matt. 13:41-42).

7. The Bible teaches both the love of God and His sure judgment of sin. Trusting in Christ's payment for our sins saves us from this coming judgment. "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him" (Rom. 5:8-9).

8. In one of the most loving verses in the Bible, Jesus issues eternal options. "'For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life'" (John 3:16).

9. Scripture teaches that there is unending, eternal judgment for those who do not know God and who do not respond in faith to the gospel. "The Lord Jesus [will be] revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power" (2 Thess. 1:7-9).

10. Jesus emphatically taught that a spiritual birth is essential to entering the kingdom of heaven. "'Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God'" (John 3:3).

11. In answer to a very clear question about what is necessary for salvation, Paul gave a very clear answer: "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved" (Acts. 16:31).

12. Jesus gave no indication that many roads lead to God. He forcefully stated that He was the only way. "'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me'" (John 14:6).

13. The early preachers of the church clearly preached that Jesus is the only way to salvation. "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12; see also 1 Tim. 2:5; Heb. 2:3-4; 1 Pet. 1:3-5).

14. According to Scripture, only those who receive Jesus Christ and believe in Him are children of God. "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name" (John 1:12).

15. The gospel is the power of God for salvation for everyone who believes. "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes" (Rom. 1:16; see also 10:9).

16. Rather than teaching that those without faith in Christ are already saved, the Bible teaches that they are already under judgment. Faith in Christ brings us out of condemnation and into right relationship with God. "'He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God'" (John 3:18).

17. Only those whose names are in the Lamb's Book of Life are granted access into the eternal city of God. "And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire" (Rev. 20:15; see also 21:27).

18. People are not automatically righteous. Only when we declare faith in Jesus Christ does God declare us righteous in His sight. "But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness" (Rom. 4:5).

19. Eternal life comes only through a relationship with God. We cannot know the Father unless we know the Son. "'And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent'" (John 17:3).

20. The cross of Christ is where payment for our sins was made. Only when we believe this are we saved. "'And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up [on a cross], that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life'" (John 3:14-15).

21. Only those who have the Son of God have eternal life. "And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life" (1 John 5:11-12).

In addition to these verses, the story of Cornelius in Acts 10 and 11 provides hard evidence against Universalism. Cornelius was devout, prayed often, gave generously to the poor and even received an angelic visitation. Yet God went to great lengths to get the gospel to him so he could come to know Jesus and be saved.

22. Added to the avalanche of scriptural evidence, there are also practical reasons for rejecting Universalism. History teaches that acceding to Universalism sets the church on a slippery slide toward theological liberalism. Soon all confidence in Scripture is lost and the uniqueness of the Christian gospel evaporates.

23. If we embrace Universalism, there is no urgency to evangelize or imperative to do missions. In fact, evangelism and missions would have to be redefined. We need look no further than most of the mainline denominations to see what happens to evangelism when Universalism is prevalent.

24. If Universalism is finally proved right, nothing will have been lost by our continued urgency in winning people to faith in Christ. But if it is false and we embrace it, then everything will be forever lost--including people who do not know Christ.

Unbroken Hearts

It needs to be said clearly that God's character is not on trial. The judge of all the earth will do what is right (see Gen. 18:25). Our faith is on trial. Our hearts are on trial. But God is not on trial. Whatever judgment He makes regarding those who have not responded to the gospel will be executed according to His standards of equally perfect righteousness and love.

When we ponder God's mercy, this whole issue is inverted. Because God is perfectly holy, the wonder is not that some will be lost. The greater wonder is that anyone from rebellious humanity will be saved! Only Christ's work on the cross could reconcile us to God.

God has put down the most massive roadblock possible to stop humanity's mad rush toward hell. He sent His Son. God intervened personally through Christ. His sacrifice on the cross paid the penalty for our sins. This is the good news for all who will believe and receive Him.

Espousing Universalism is sad. But rejecting it with no impact on our hearts or change in our priorities is sinister. If we believe that people are lost outside of Christ (and they are), and that faith in Christ is the only way of salvation (and it is), what could possibly be a higher priority than getting the gospel as far as we can as fast as we can?

To pronounce people "saved" who are obviously enslaved by darkness, deception and the devil is surely the cruelest of jokes. We are sent to a lost world with a gospel of power. Our message gives the spiritually blind their sight and liberates those who are chained by Satan. We do not preach that people are forgiven but that they can be forgiven.

I would not want to stand before Jesus Christ as a Universalist. But neither would I want to stand before the Lord as an evangelical who was not evangelistic. What a serious accounting must await us if we believe in eternal torment for those without faith in Christ--and yet do nothing! A recovery of biblical truth and compassionate evangelism are the twin screaming needs of the American church.

The apostle Paul said he would be willing to give up his place in Christ if by such a sacrifice others would be saved (see Rom. 9:2-3). He believed all people outside Christ were lost, and it left him with a broken heart.

More than encroaching Universalism, it is our unbroken hearts that often impede evangelism. Many Christians today have never even heard of "a burden for the lost." The harvest is huge and ready to be reaped by those who are willing to sow first in tears (see Ps. 126:5-6).

Right theology will only indict us if we do not recapture the evangelistic imperative. We must believe the truth, and we must act on what we believe. Let's not just reject faulty theology; let's embrace those who need Jesus.

That's great, and not one piece of real evidence. Lot's of scriptural and theological dogma to support your view, but no actual theoretical, testable, verifiable, solid evidence. Personally I do not have a problem with the idea of hell, just the broken down version that most Christians have today.
