Jhn 13:34 KJV - A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
Jhn 13:35 KJV - By this shall all [men] know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Actually, this is nothing new.

Deu 6:7 KJV - And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
Deu 6:8 KJV - And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.

Is this not what Christ had done? It is the LOVE that he speaks of. This is charity. This is compassion of the fellow man.

Lev 19:18 KJV - Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I [am] the LORD.
Rom 13:9 KJV - For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if [there be] any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Gal 5:14 KJV - For all the law is fulfilled in one word, [even] in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Jam 2:8 KJV - If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

If you love God with all your being, and love others as HE has loved you, it is not possible to commit sins against HIM or your neighbor.

Actually, it is very new.

Loving the brethren as Christ loved them is very different from loving our neighbor as we love ourselves.

Amen SPOT ON! The love Christ introduced was sacrificial requiring death to our flesh thus why when he states "love other as I have you" he was referring to us carrying our cross and following him. If we love the way he loved which was to death we will be known as his disciples. Cf. John 13:34-35 and Luke 9:23 & 14:26

Jesus clarified this later that evening at John 15:12, 13 when he said: “My command is this: Love each other as I have love you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” Christians were to love one another as Christ loved the, being willing to sacrifice their very lives for their brothers.

This love transcends national and gender bias prevalent in his day. Love will move us to sacrifice time, energy and personal comfort to help others. This self-sacrificing brotherly love is the mark by which we are identified as true followers of Christ.

It is important to remember that Jesus said the most important commandment is to love God.
Exodus 20:3

Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Jesus translates this;
Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
If we allow nothing to come before our love for God, it is impossible to violate any of the first four commandments.

The second most important commandment is to "love your neighbor as yourself"
By keeping this new commandment from Jesus, it is impossible to violate any of the other six commandments.

As you can see, nothing about Gods ten commandments were changed by the commandments that Jesus gave. All Jesus did, was to condense all ten commandments into two, so that all can understand that Gods Law, the ten commandments, is the law of love.

It's all about love folks!

Think about the ways we can love 'to the death'.

I have 5 children under 11, and I am growing frustrated by the sheer amount of work there is to do in a day. Then when my two youngest begin disputing over a toy, I want to lose my temper.

I am ill and in pain, and so very weary. But my neighbor is worried about her grandchild being born safely. I want to go to bed.

My husband has forgotten (again) to call to let me know he'll be late, so I need to hold dinner a while. I want to er...'remind' him how often this happens. (lol)

How often the opportunity to 'die' (lay down my own life for another) comes up.
God is good at providing these opportunities; He knows I need the practice. :)

I can count to ten and take a few deep breaths and deal patiently with my children.
I can make some tea and talk with my neighbor for a couple of hours, telling her that God will carry her burdens.
I can remember how often my husband loves me to the death; how very hard he works for me, and respond with love and not recriminations.

I can carry my cross because Jesus carried His.
I can do these things, yet not I but Christ Who lives within me. ♥

Mat 5:43 KJV - Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
Mat 5:44 KJV - But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
Mat 5:45 KJV - That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
Mat 5:46 KJV - For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
Mat 5:47 KJV - And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more [than others]? do not even the publicans so?
Mat 5:48 KJV - Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
