Often I am so much stronger in my faith when I am sad or going through a really hard time in life. But once I get what I pray for.... I just get lazy. I let the miracle that happened for me slip away and I get comfortable and forget about it. How do I stay committed to faith?

Well...are you reading the word of God everyday? Are you spending time in worship? Are you ASKING Him for a hunger and thirst for Him and His ways? For a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him? (Eph1 or 3...I forget which). ARE YOU A DOER OF THE WORD?? Because IF you are, that alone will keep you on track. But if you only pray when things are bad, you are not even IN the kingdom of God for you pray 'crisis' prayers and do not KNOW Him personally. It is not a RELATIONSHIP with Him for you.

And it MUST be or how else can you know Him?

You can not.

James 4

4 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?

6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:

14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

16 But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.

17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

Pray for Strength and Comfort.

Peace and Blessings in the name of Yahvah God and Yahshua the Messiah.

Vicky, MANY people only show faith when they "need" God. And in the times that they do not "need" God they PARTY, and SIN! What amazes me about these people, is that they do nto even know that EVERY BREATH they take is a GIFT FROM GOD! Even the air they us when they rush to sin!

Maggie why ask if she is born again? God says born again people DO NOT BACKSLIDE! 1 John 3:9. 1 John 5:18. Matthew 5:48. John 3, Eph 4. 2 Peter1. 1 john 1. Oh and another about 777 times...

Vicky, out peace and faith is IN THE LORD..... INSIDE HIM! Vicky, read John17, the whoole chapter and 1 John 3 the whole chapter... There the Lord gives us a good idea of where the PEACE in God is. If you can use an old King James Bible.

I pray the Lord show you where we do not backslide, and where HE WILL GIVE US PEACE!

I agree that this is a great thing to do. Ask Him for a fire for Him, that will never go out! And ask Him to keep you learning and growing, and to take away anything in your life that's inhibiting growth.

Dear God, please keep Vicky (and me as well!) on the right track with You, forever. In Jesus' name... amen!

Please don't think you're alone in this, sweetheart. :)
It's not uncommon, and it was more common in my life when I was younger.
(back when the Lord made dirt. ;) )

It is vital to be connected to The Vine.
It is of great importance to read the Word of God, pray, and attend a local assembly where the Bible is faithfully taught. (church)
It is helpful to have your closest friends be committed believers.

I find it helpful to keep a journal.
I write down all the things I'm praying about, and take notes when I read the Word.
And I write down all the answers to my prayers, and how I feel about it.

Then when I feel myself slipping into apathy, I can look back to see all the wonderful things the Lord has done for me, and those whom I love!
I can remind myself of all He's taught me in His Word.

Little by little I build up a defense against the apathy--praise. :)
It reminds me of my great need for God, and how much better I do when I stay connected.

Never doubt that the Lord will be faithful to your growth.
See how He brought you here with these questions?
See how He gave you the humility to be honest, and to ask? :)

For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. (Phil. 1:6)

You are in very good hands, little one...the best!
Please visit us often. :)

love,
ellie

Yes, Ellie speaks the truth. And so is Maggiemye right is asking if you are born-again, for when you are born-again God takes from one family (those against God) to a new family (those who are in Christ, God's family). Thus if you are truly in God's family, you may slip on the deck of the boat when the ocean waves splash over it, but you will never fall off. King David always seen His sins before him, Psalms 51:3, but David always turned to God for deliverance. You must remain plugged into God's spiritual source of power and sustenance, to keep from slipping. And if you are saved, God will chastise you (Hebrews 12) and bring you back into a rightful relationship with Him. Perhaps you could pray for God to clearly chastise you when you veer off.

The things that Ellie said to help you stay on track are true (remain in the Word, pray, local church), But I would also recommend this, find a ministry for God that you can take part in. It doesn't have to be your own, perhaps you can help a youth pastor out with young kids, or volunteer at a food pantry, find a women's bible study etc. etc. But all of this means nothing if you are not born-again.

Palsms 51:17
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit,
A broken and a contrite heart—
These, O God, You will not despise.

You can't, because no matter how much the spirit is willing, the flesh is weak, therefore what is impossible with man, is possible with God as you can do all things through Christ Who strengthens you and so just believe He is committed to you as your Good Shepherd, trusting Him to lead you in the way you ought to go in following Him.

He invites the little children to freely come to Him.

Would not parents be amused by the willful declarations of a child? Would they not roll their eyes when they spout such declarations in anger & willful determination?

Do not childen forget? Do not children easily leave off without finishing? How quickly do they abandon that new toy they got from under the Christmas tree and they are off seeking to play with other things?

And yet Jesus freely receives the little ones? What can they do but trust the Lord?

Mark 10:13 And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. 15 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.

It is the religious people that have a hard time letting go and trusting Him to do His work in them.

Matthew 11:25 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. 26 Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight. 27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. 28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

John 6:28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? 29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:...9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; 10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ. 11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

So whenever you need help in following Him, just go before that throne of grace.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. 14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Romans 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? 32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

Thanks to Jesus Christ, I am trusting my Friend in helping me & keeping me as His friend by continuing in His words to be His disciple and thus the just shall live by faith.

remember to pray thanksgiving prayers everyday. just set a few minutes each day and pray about all the things you are thankful for and all the answered prayers God has given to you already. I think it would be nice to keep a journal of your thanksgiving prayers so when you are down or going through a hard times you can read about how God has already blessed you and build your faith to remember that God loves you and hears your prayers.

Don't let anyone steal your joy in God. don't pray out of guilt or because you feel like you must but pray because you are truly thankful for what God has done.

it is always nice to say thank you.

3 John 1:2
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.

Vicky: It is VERY important to surround yourself with people that are believers and that can stand by you, encourage you, and even TEACH you. Age is irrelevant. Seek out a mentor...someone you can connect with that will lead you into the deeper things of Christ.

Matthew 13:20-23 20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; 21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended. 22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.

According to the Scriptures MoralVicky, you fall into one of these two categories, usually the latter. Both of them happen due to a lack of commitment. The previous posters were on target when they said that. Note verse 23:

23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

This individual is one that hears for the sake of increase in their relationship with God. They may not understand immediately what they hear. They may search the Scriptures and pray for weeks until they understand. The desire to know God's will is first in their life. Then they also bring forth fruit. This is when they act upon the Scriptures and obey them.
Those that aren't committed to Christ will react to the word instead of act upon it. They react enough to get to an altar of prayer, but once their conscience is cleared, that's where it ends.
Those that are committed to Christ will act upon the word, obeying it to the fullest. They understand that when they do, God will bless them for their obedience and make them more fruitful.

You'll hear a lot of conflicting messages due to all the conflicting beliefs people have.

Therefore YOU must be diligent in seeking God. Dig into the Bible to find those pearls of wisdom and yield to what it teaches.

Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Thus when we focus our eyes on God the motivation that fuels our hunger and thirsting after righteousness will be wrought.

It starts with God but we have to consciously stop suppressing His light. This is why those that are Christ's HAVE crucified the flesh with the passions and desires. We ought not allow ourselves to be drawn away from God by the draw of our flesh.

We have to come to the point where we consciously choose to forsake walking our own way and yield completely to God, trusting His lead. It is through doing that the light of God will manifest through our entire being and we will find empowerment.

Paul taught that we are to put on the WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD. Paul used the analogy of warfare because he understood the spiritual war we are in. Satan wants us to walk like an animal according to our base desires. This is why Jesus said we must strive, dig deep, count the cost, pick up our cross, deny ourselves and follow Him.

You cannot just "pray" and "wait for it to happen." You have to yield. A wild horse does its own thing and will not submit to a rider hence the horse must be broken in.

A sinner is like a wild horse, they are self-willed and very used to it. A sinner must be broken on the rock of Christ through repentance. The mind MUST change. In order to be broken in this way you need to seek God and cry out to Him with all due diligence.

Read the word, read the word, read the word, reflect on the word, reflect on the word, reflect on the word, examine your heart, examine your heart, examine your heart. Let God break it! Once broken God will raise you up and empower you to walk in victory. Then you have the road of remaining steadfast by putting on that armour and clinging to Christ.

Christ won't forsake you but you can forsake Him. Hence we have to abide in Him and He will abide in us.

So in summary...

Let God break you and He'll raise you up. Don't be thinking you play a passive role in this and just "wait for it to happen." Get after it.

Read the Scripture!

have you made Christ your life yet? Are in prayer asking for this and that beng your only purpose? Then when you get it you like you said gewt comfortable.
You make the choice but it sounds to me like you are walking in your flesh and not the Spirit of God. I know that flesh is deceptive and will do anything to get what it wants.
Galatians 5:16-26
16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

If you start today in prayer and seek truth from God and your motive is true to want to know God God will reveal truth to you that sets you free from the traps of this world that you are in.

Hey Vick ,
I would suggest going directly to God in Jesus Christ name and talk to Him as you are sharing with us ...that price has already been paid for all of us to do so .. he desires that connection with all of us every day... He wants to build His relationship with all of us . .. He already knows exactly where we all are in this and you know what? He doesn't love any of us any less because of it :) get in his word .. Look in the index for words you might have in your heart and see what god has to say to you right where you are... it's that easy :)
You will see He will encourage you ...it will all be okay ... god promises us this :) we are all in this together

One way is to discipline your self to study The Bible at least one hour everyday. Start by reading at the start of one of the Books in the Bible. And keep reading for a hour. Pick up were you left off the next day. Once you have completed one book. You can choose to reread it. or start a new one.
