The "next" pope is always the fulfillment of something in Revelation.

Are you being humorous ? Or are you supporting that thought? Just curious how this should be read.

i'd go with humorous or sarcastic considering the source of the comment.

A lot of people ythought that pope ben was the false prophet as well. I really do not know. Time will tell. But, the false prophet will,be the one endorsing the antichrists agenda so it would have to be someone with a lot of influence.

popes find themselves equal with god, i'd rather say.. everyone of them were antichrists.

*hint* christianity is different from catholism and mormanism.

You know the next pope is the false prophet?
no pope, is the subject in the bible for any end time events. other then them and all churches misleading people into not reading the bible. that is as far as I would take it. The false Christ/prophet is Satan, and that mislead world at that time. that's all i got to say

The catholic church has been under scrutiny for centuries about their practices. They are also accused of being the evil in Revelation. Every pope is considered the antichrist by some people

While people concentrate on false beliefs and distortions of Johns vision then end up overlooking the truth due to their own ignorance.

the false prophet is not actually a person...the false prophet is the entire apostate church...identical with the second beast of revelation and babylon the harlot...

it is possible that a pope could be the man of lawlessness though...

No. But expect a lot of speculation and conspiracy theories from followers of the prophecies of St. Malachy. According to those prophecies (well according to how some folks read them) the Pope after Benedict XVI will take the name Peter the Roman (leading those same folks to think the next Pope will be Italian).

Ironically these prophecies are often promulgated by people that believe the Pope is the antichrist, but the last Pope is supposed to lead the Holy Roman Church (Malachy's words) through persecution in the end times. Here's the last line in the prophecies about Peter the Roman:

"In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church there will reign Peter the Roman, who will feed his flock amid many tribulations, after which the seven-hilled city will be destroyed and the dreadful Judge will judge the people. The End."

I think it's all pure speculation. There are other religions besides Catholicism that are spreading like wildfire...take Islam for instance. In countries where Islam is the entrenched religion, Christians are terribly persecuted (look at some of the pastors who have been imprisoned lately in Iran). Look at what's happening in Egypt right now. And now we have a president who entertains people associated with the Muslim Brotherhood at the White House. Things that make you go hmmmmmmm. I dunno. I kind of think, though, that whoever this false prophet is will be sneaky and even Christians, if they are not careful, could be deceived. I see certain preachers these days with thousands of people in their churches, and TV "ministries" reaching millions around the globe, not preaching the Gospel and many people follow their every word with such fervor that you would think these guys are Jesus. That scares me, honestly. When someone can be on national TV saying that homosexuality is ok and that there are many ways to Jesus....um, what is going on here? And I will not set foot in a Christian bookstore to see that Joyce Meyers has her own Bible with all of her comments and commentary. I would never dream of selling a Bible with my name on it. Not trying to offend her fans, but it really disturbs me. I think we need to be careful of those who are preaching another Gospel.

Nope.

There is a higher chance that a False prophet would arise from the many thousands of protestant denominations in the USA.

I'd say guys like that Westboro Baptist guy are bigger contenders.

Yeah, but no one would ever follow someone like that...it has to be someone who appeals to the majority of people on the earth. I think you could be right about coming from a Christian denomination. That's why I say, watch out for the "popular" teachers these days. People like to have their ears tickled.
