i have an app on my android phone and have listened to the entire king james version of the bible, and have decided to listen to it again ( and will probably listen to its entirety a few times) but i just noticed something. it makes no mention of who adam and eve's daughter was. obviously they had to have one in order for cain to "know his wife" and have children. and just wondering, wouldnt that be considered incest? i mean i know they had to procreate the world somehow, but i just find it peculiar that there is no mention of a daughter.

A good question. We don't know her name but we do know that at this stage, for Adam and Eve to be fruitful and multiply, they'd need to intermarry. At this time that wasn't an issue but as sin affected the world and the bloodlines became more and more corrupted by disease and sickness etc. it was outlawed by God. Early on, people would've had much purer DNA than they did in Moses time, and especially now.

There is no mention of her name because it was not important. If Followers of Christ/Christians focus on what is NOT there as opposed to what IS there in the Word of God, we are being deceived, side-tracked, led astray.
God put in His written word ALL that we need to know in order to 'fight the good fight' and become the overcomers that He created us to become. Focus on what IS there. What isn't there is irrelevant.

Maggie, there's nothing wrong with being curious. It's good to study the Word. The problem only arises when the little details become the focus.

thank you tintin. that kinda helps, i guess. but what maggie said is what i've struggled with all my life. any time i've asked an unknown question like that, thats the only answer i would ever get, that i should just ignore it, or not question it or whatever. i have always had the holy spirit in my life. i was baptized catholic (which is what my mom was) but i attended my father's Lutheran church when i was a child. my aunt was Mormon and i grew up in an atheist foster home. i later attended a non denominational bible church where i was saved and born again. in the mean time, i struggled with trying to figure out which was the true denomination but have decided that just being a "born again christian" is all i needed to know and get what i can out of the bible myself and with the Lord's guidance, but that doesnt mean i still dont have questions

I have the same issue with people not wanting to answer questions.

the main thing you have to realize is some people don't know the answer and instead of admitting they don't know they either tell you to ignore the question or try to make you feel guilty for asking.

i tend to just smile and move on to the next pastor until i find one who is mature enough in Christ and loving enough to have the patience to spend some time trying to answer a few of my various questions.

I have found many here on cc who have given me websites to sermons (both audio and written) that have answered a few, but I find the more I learn the more I want to know. if I had time I would learn Hebrew, Greek and Aramic just to be able to read the Bible in its original languages.

maybe one of these days after the kids are in college :)

don't let other ever make you stop asking questions.

if you ever stop learning and growing, then you are already dead.

thank you. thats what i'm saying Ariel82. i have been eager to learn more and more lately for some reason and i have been taking in alot by getting on the internet and just taking in what i can and looking up so many things. if i would've had the internet when i was younger, i'd be dangerous right now....lol.....i'm talking about the knowledge that i could've obtained.

Her post is spot on. There is nothing in it about 'don't be curious' or don't study or just be spoon fed, All that is being said is don't go further than what is revealed by God. Too many lame brain religions have had their start by going beyond what was written. Dig but don't invent.

My dear trukin brother,

You are asking very good questions and it is good that you do. Please do not stop asking those questions. God uses our questions to get into His Word more. I am very sorry that there are professing Christians in the world who criticize those who are curious about the things in the Bible.

I am a conservative, evangelical pastor and you just keep "trukin" through the scriptures and your questions my brother.

I will always be happy to answer questions of any kind or sort without criticism. As long as they are not just meant to be argumentative and whimsical.

Keep TRUKIN for the Lord~!

PLEASE NOTE: Adam and Eve had "other sons and daughters" the Bible says in Gen 5:4

"After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters."

If a daughter started having children at any age between 15-25...well...you do the math. By the time Cain and Seth were only in the middle years...lets say 300 or 400 there were plenty of women who very distant relatives.

THAT...is the easiest answer I can give you without being complex. btw...this is the same answer I would give to argue why "...Cain went out from the Lord’s presence and lived in the land of Nod, east of Eden." Gen. 4:16. There were so many by that time.

Think about it. If just one daughter had a child every year or even every other year for 10, 20, 30 or even 100 years (after all...at that time that would still be very young) look how many people there would be. Multiply that by each daughter that had children, every grand-daughter maybe just 15-20 years later, etc, etc..etc...there would be towns of people...cities....just like Nod, where Cain dwelt.

Hope this helps~!

Gen 4:12 KJV - When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
Gen 4:14 KJV - Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, [that] every one that findeth me shall slay me.
Gen 4:16 KJV - And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.

Cain was sent away from Eden where others lived. Adam was not the first man. There were others, which is why he was afraid of dying. He had seen someone die.

In the OT incest was not a concept until after Noah. Brothers and sisters married and God allowed it so that the human race would expand. Cain took one of his sisters as wife. How do we know that? Adam and Eve were the only parents! It was not until Cain and his siblings grew up and 'married' that they had kids of their own. Adam and Eve had MANY children (poor Eve!!).
Men were to be head of the family. They were the leaders of the OT so it is reasonable that, unless they had some important part in history, like Deborah, Esther, Rahab, etc, their names are not mentioned. If God included the names of all the wives of all the men mentioned in scripture, there would be a LOT of useless information taking up space in the Book.
