i am purposely using Wikipedia, so that the leaven (dialectic) surrounding this issue can be clearly seen.

everything in this Wikipedia article is stuff you have presumably already come across.

the question is:

is Dual Covenant Theology TRUE OR FALSE?

Dual-covenant theology

Dual-covenant theology is a Christian view of the Old Covenant which holds that Jews may simply keep the Law of Moses, because of the "everlasting covenant" (Genesis 17:13) between Abraham and God expressed in the Hebrew Bible, whereas Gentiles (those not Jews or Jewish proselytes) must convert to Christianity or alternatively accept the Seven Laws of Noah to be assured of a place in the World to Come.

Many forms of Christianity, especially Conservative Protestants, consider this view to be heresy. Alternative Christian views are that the Law of Moses has been superseded or abrogated. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 1967, "The Law of the Gospel "fulfills," refines, surpasses, and leads the Old Law to its perfection."....

Criticism of Dual-Covenant Theology

A major theme of Paul's Epistle to the Romans is that, so far as salvation is concerned, Jews and Gentiles are equal before God (2:7-12; 3:9-31; 4:9-12; 5:12,17-19; 9:24; 10:12-13; 11:30-32). Romans 1:16, by stating that the Gospel is the same for Jew and Gentile, presents a serious problem for Dual-covenant theology.[10] However, the relationship of Paul of Tarsus and Judaism is still a subject of scholarly debate.

Galatians 5:3 is sometimes cited as a verse supporting Dual-covenant theology. A problem with this argument, however, is the context of Galatians 5.[11] Galatians 5:4[12] in particular, says, "You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace." Line this up with Galatians 2,[13] Galatians 2:21[14] in particular, which says “I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly.” Scholars still debate the meaning of the Pauline phrase "Works of the Law" (see New Perspective on Paul and Federal Vision).

A similar challenge is presented by Galatians 2:15[15] and 16,[16] just after the Incident at Antioch, in which Paul says (speaking to Peter, a fellow Jew), “We are Jews by nature and not sinners from among the Gentiles; nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified."

The same exclusive claims for the Christian message are also made by other writers. John 14:6[17] states, "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.'" Peter, speaking to fellow Jews about Jesus in Acts 4:12,[18] says: "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved."

The First Epistle of John states, "Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist—he denies the Father and the Son. No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also."[19] This does not differentiate between Jews or Gentiles.

JOHN HAGEE’S VISIT TO FRESNO

On Monday evening, May 2, 2011, John Hagee came to Fresno with his Christian’s United for Israel (CUFI) rally in a “Night to Honor Israel”. It was held at and sponsored by the Cornerstone Church in downtown Fresno. Many from both Jewish and Christian communities attended.

About 35 people of congregation Bet Shalom participated in the effort to protest and publicize John Hagee’s heretical position regarding Israel to those who attended the CUFI event. We stood on the street corners and sidewalks outside of Cornerstone Church with signs, handed out flyers, waved flags of Israel and the Lion of Judah, and joined in Davidic dance to Messianic music. We were met with concern, anger, rejection, acceptance, and a variety of other emotions from the people who had come to attend the event. It was a peaceful protest to John Hagee’s message of two Covenants, one covenant for the Jewish people, and another covenant for the Gentile people.

For some years there has been concern among those of the Messianic Jewish community, Church leaders, and of the leadership of Bet Shalom in particular, that the message John Hagee is espousing is Scripturally inaccurate. We have researched his messages and his latest book “In Defense of Israel” and found that he publically promotes a Dual Covenant theology.

WHAT IS THIS DUAL COVENANT THEOLOGY AND HOW DOES IT AFFECT ME? WHY SHOULD I BE CONCERNED ABOUT IT?

Very simply put, “Dual-covenant theology is a Liberal Christian view that holds that Jews may simply keep the Law of Moses, because of the “everlasting covenant” (Genesis 17:13) between Abraham and God expressed in the Hebrew Bible, whereas Gentiles (those not Jews or Jewish proselytes) must convert to Christianity or alternatively accept the Seven Laws of Noah.”1

In researching Hagee’s book “In Defense of Israel”, many statements are discovered that do not agree with the Bible. In a quote from Kevin Geoffrey:

“I am prepared to throw his baby out with his bath water based solely on the content of pages 132-143. Why? Because by Hagee’s own confession, the “Jesus issue” appears to be the crux of the book. This is what he says,

“This book will expose the sins of the fathers and the vicious abuse of the Jewish people. ‘In Defense of Israel’ will shake Christian theology. It scripturally proves that the Jewish people as a whole did not reject Jesus as Messiah. It will also prove that Jesus did not come to earth to be the Messiah. It will prove that there was a ‘Calvary conspiracy’ between Rome, the high priest, and Herod to execute Jesus as an insurrectionist too dangerous to live. Since Jesus refused by word and deed to claim to be the Messiah, how can the Jews be blamed for rejecting what was never offered?”2

Now those of us who have read our Bibles know that there must be blood shed for the remission of sin. This is not man’s idea, this is God’s provision for mankind to have fellowship with Him as well as gain everlasting life. This pattern was shown in the Tabernacle of Moses in the wilderness when God established the system of community living for the Children of Israel. God gave the “Ten Commandments” on Mount Sinai. He established the Mosaic Law, as it is known today, and gave His people the “house rules” for dwelling together in community life with both God and man. God instituted the sacrificial system whereby there was provision for the “covering of sin” until the final atonement would be made by Messiah Yeshua. (Exodus 29; Leviticus chapters 4, 5, 6 & 7)

These “house rules” were given to the Children of Israel and to us today to live by but not as a means to salvation. They would be the arrow that would point us towards the Messiah Yeshua, and our need for His final sacrifice of atonement for sin, once and for all, on the Roman cross. It was there that He was crucified, slain on Passover as the Passover Lamb, for both the Jewish people and the people of the whole world.

As Yeshua said to Nicodemus, the Jewish teacher, and a high ranking member of The Sanhedrin, who came to Yeshua the Messiah at night in the famous 3rd chapter of John, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

This was said by Yeshua, the Jewish Messiah, to a Jewish scholar of that time, who was living within the context of Jewish life. If this passage did not include the Jewish people, then it did not include any of us at all.

SOME QUOTES FROM HAGEE’S BOOK “IN DEFENSE OF ISRAEL” FOLLOWED BY BIBLICAL QUOTES:

HAGEE: “The sovereign purpose for Jesus’ life was to be a light to the Gentiles” (p. 133)

BIBLE: Matthew 15:24—But He answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

HAGEE: “there is not one verse of Scripture in the New Testament that says Jesus came to be the Messiah…” (p. 136)

BIBLE: John 4:25-26—The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will tell us all things.” Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.”

HAGEE: “The Jews were not rejecting Jesus as Messiah; it was Jesus who was refusing to be the Messiah to the Jews.” (p. 140) “He refused to be their Messiah, choosing instead to be the Savior of the world.” (p 143)

BIBLE: Acts 2:36—(Peter, addressing the assembled masses of Jewish people on the Feast of Shavuot in Jerusalem in the passage of Acts 2) “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Yeshua/Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ/Messiah.”

HAGEE: “Jesus refused to produce a sign … because it was not the Father’s will, nor his, to be Messiah. (p. 138).

BIBLE: Luke 11:29—(Yeshua/Jesus was rebuking not refusing) “And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet. “

“IS THERE SERIOUS ERROR IN THE NEW BOOK, IN DEFENSE OF ISRAEL?”

Dr. Michael Brown had this to say in his article:

“Pastor John Hagee’s new book, In Defense of Israel: The Bible’s Mandate for Supporting the Jewish State (Lake Mary, Florida: Front Line, 2007), was publicized by announcements stating that the book would “shake Christian theology.” The following positions are explicitly laid out in the book:

The Jewish people, as a whole, did not reject Jesus as Messiah.
Jesus did not come to earth to be the Messiah.
Jesus refused by word and deed to be the Messiah.
The Jews cannot be blamed for not accepting what was never offered.
Statements like this must be evaluated in light of 1 John 2:22: “Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ [i.e., Messiah]. Such a man is the antichrist-he denies the Father and the Son.” As commentator Stephen S. Smalley explained, “The true believer is the one who accepts the Christhood of Jesus, whereas those who deny his messianic identity declare themselves to be on the side of the antichrist” (Word Biblical Commentary).”3

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY? Please always read the Bible in context.

Jeremiah 31:31-33—“Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the LORD. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.”

Matthew 23:39— (Yeshua/Jesus speaking to the multitudes, the Scribes and the Pharisees) ”… for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!’” Baruch Haba BeShem Adonai! (See also Psalm 118:26; Matthew 23:39; Luke 19:38)

Luke 2:11—(speaking of Yeshua/Jesus)”For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ/Messiah the Lord.”

John 3:16—(Yeshua/Jesus speaking to Nicodemus, a man of the Pharisees and a ruler of the Jews) “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”

John 14:6—(Speaking to His Jewish disciples, specifically Thomas) ”Yeshua/Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

John 20:30-31—”And truly Yeshua/Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples (who were ALL Jewish), which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Yeshua/Jesus is the Christ/Messiah, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.”

Romans 1:16— “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ/ Messiah, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.”

A FINAL THOUGHT

Most will agree that Rabbi Sha’ul, also known the apostle Paul, has penned under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, some very beneficial books in the New Covenant portion of the Bible. Most all who will read this will know and be able to recount his story of persecuting his own Jewish people for their belief in Messiah Yeshua. Most all will remember the famous “Damascus Road” experience where Sha’ul/Paul was confronted by the living God of Israel:

“Now it happened, as I journeyed and came near Damascus at about noon, suddenly a great light from heaven shone around me. And I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?’ So I answered, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ And He said to me, ‘I am Yeshua/Jesus of Nazareth, whom you are persecuting.’’’(Acts 22:6-8)

Then years later in 1 Timothy 1:12-15, Rabbi Sha’ul/Paul writes to Timothy:

“And I thank Messiah Yeshua/Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me, because He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry, although I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an insolent man; but I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. And the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant, with faith and love which are in Messiah Yeshua/Christ Jesus. This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Messiah Yeshua/Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.”

No matter what seemingly great work a man (or woman) does for the Nation of Israel, if we accept any part of Dual Covenant Theology, and if we support and follow after those who do, then we condemn the Jewish people to an eternity without God. Will we neglect so great a salvation to those we have been called to pray for and serve by denying the inerrant Word of God that speaks of salvation to BOTH the House of Israel and the Nations?

It really doesn’t matter who believes what or what labels are put on beliefs, it matters what truth is.

Jews have NEVER been saved by keeping the law. Atonement has always been through blood, symbolic blood of Christ or actual blood of Christ, and through repentance and forgiveness and depending on the power of that blood.

Anyone who thinks of humans as able to do what our Holy God alone can do is mistaken. Only a few Jews who got so caught up in the small details of keeping law that they lost track of the purpose thought so. Sin separates us from God, salvation saves us from that separation through forgiveness. But it is only grace through which we live. Always has been, for God is the same now and forever.

Jews are and have been special in God’s eyes, with special blessings. Paul explains that to us in several chapters of Romans. We are to simply let God take care of their destiny, we are told, and God is taking care of it. Our part is to respect them as special.

Even though they are special, in most ways we are all the same. Jews all started out as gentiles, and over the years many gentiles were taken into the race, even Ruth, an ancestor of Christ.

please would you explain (from scripture) what elevates the modern-day Jew over the modern-day Gentile?

It is dual, the laws lead to The Law. Christ made 'the laws' obsolete (Heb. 8:13) because Christ supPLANTED the law .

Holy sh-mokes, RANGO! Theerezuh new Sheriff in town :)

Don't you know what it means to love everyone , ohzone?

Why must you insist Scripture says what it does not say.

Moses'laws of the old testament and old covenant did not simply vanish into thib air, ALL the laws of 'The Law and the Prophets' became overrided by the love of God sending us His Son.

The Law, all 600+ of them in the OT, didn't work out to well for we humans, we BECAME 'ENEMIES OF God,' Scripture tells us.

Only by His Son sent to transFORM the old laws to the new did we get oppotunity to become new creations and, hence, being born again, live forever :)

Come noe, ohzone, let us reason, God did not eliminate our following of the laws of Moses, just those laws were commanded under a figure with the new coveant and that figure is Jesus Christ. :)

I wouldn't use the word elevates to explain that Jews are blessed.

I am told that I have three days to clear my house out so wood floors can be put in throughout! I am 87. Just packing the books so the bookcases can be moved!!!!! or I would search for the scriptures.

It was a careful study of Romans that led me to this understanding. Then I did a history study of the development of the thought that cultimated in such as "Jews are Christ killers, it is OK to kill them" which was the worst of anti Jew .Zech 8:23 gives us something to wonder about.
Zech 8:23 [SUP]23 [/SUP]The Lord of Hosts says this: “In those days, 10 men from nations of every language will grab the robe of a Jewish man tightly, urging: Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.”

If you will use your concordance or eSword, etc. and search for Jew, etc. I think you will find verses to back up my thinking.

I sure wish you could stop once in awhile and understand whats up before you just go on about stuff.
And learn the difference between partiality and true love. I think you have partiality and are running
around trying to teach love.

True love rejoices in the truth, not at the expense of it.
And "if" you want to be taken seriously act a tad more serious.:)

that doesn't even make sense.

the Everlasting covenant was between Abraham and his SEED who is Christ Jesus. Abraham's spiritual children that is the NEW covenant. the Old covenant has passed away. put to death in the death of Christ and through the baptism of His saints.

Hebrews 8
[h=3][/h][SUP]7 [/SUP]For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second. [SUP]8 [/SUP]Because finding fault with them, He says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— [SUP]9 [/SUP]not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the Lord. [SUP]10 [/SUP]For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. [SUP]11 [/SUP]None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them. [SUP]12 [/SUP]For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds[SUP][b][/SUP] I will remember no more.”[SUP][c][/SUP]

[SUP]13 [/SUP]In that He says, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.

well since I deny, or do not believe anything of the sort.. then I guess (although I am sure this is directed at me) I have nothing to say. I would be in complete agreement with you on the fact this form of dual covenant theology is in error to the greatest form necessary.

I was taught this growing up.. Firmly believed it. But when I started looking deeply into it. I found it to be in grave error.

Many people risk missing out on the true gospel because of this lie.

Many things I was looking at did not make sense to me.. when studying scripture

1. The church will be raptured, but Abraqham, Daniel and King David will not until their age is complete at the end of the tribulation period.

2. Jews (and gentiles who converted to jews) under the old covenant were saved by the law. The church is saved by Grace, When the church is raptured. they will once again fall under law to be saved.

3. Before the law. people God saved different ways,,

4. The church is greater than Israel.. and will hold higher positions in the new kingdom (eternal)

these and many other false truths got me to study,, and i found them to be in error to the highest degree.
