Hey I am in a Theology class right now and we have an assignment called the great debate... one of the topics was security in faith and we were assigned to take sides. My side got that you can use your Salvation.
I am thinking of scripture that would back me up.

its hard now because I am not even really sure what I believe

Hebrews 6:4-6 "[SUP]4 [/SUP]It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, [SUP]5 [/SUP]who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age [SUP]6 [/SUP]and who have fallen[SUP][a][/SUP] away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace."[h=4][/h]

The answer is in the text you posted...
How can one SHARE in the Holy Spirit if one was not SAVED? Salvation does these things... It enlightens (glorifies) it gives Holy Spirit GIFTS (heavenly gifts) and it is made ONE WITH GOD, Share the Holy Spirit, And it tasted the Truth, IN POWER... That is what COMPLETED salvation does....

Now you have to understand this.... These people that had this GODLY SALVATION, was recreated in HIS LIKENESS. So they still have a choice. God has one and all in his image has a choice, just like Adam had. Perfect but with a oppertunity (choice) to still sin... However unlikely, but there is even evidence in the Bible of some that fell away... Paul wrote about two of them Hymenaeus and Alexander... Unlike Timothy they did NOT hold the faith on a GOOD CONSCIENCE... one of the things Salvation does.... GOOD CONSCIENCE... And they PUT AWAY what they had... Then Paul said... he has delivered them unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.

The sin against the Holy Spirit is exactly this.... ONE GOD SAVED YOU AND YOU WANT TO SIN AGAIN, HE IS NOT GOING TO STOP YOU, but the penalty this time is THE UNFORGIVING SIN. SIN UNTO DEATH!

The two types of sin is this... Me sinning as an unsaved person... SIN NOT UNTO DEATH, and perfectly forgiveable. And the FATAL sin... Sin AFTER GOD SAVED ME, Very unlikely VERY UNLIKELY, but still possible as the Hebrews 6 test you qouted clearly confirms.. POSSIBLE, but UNLIKELY to 1 John 3:9.

This is what needs to happen for one to fall that far....

I believe when God saves you He repalces your spirit with HIS SPIRIT. And you are now SEALED IN GOD (Col 3:3) and He lives the rest of your life PERFECTLY in your flesh. The LIFE in your flesh is now GOD LIVING IT... (Gal 2:20) Made ONE with God (John 17) you are to remain in HIM until the day Jesus returns, and He will live the rest of your days in you.. (1 John 3..)

But! if you want to return to the OLD man, God will allow that as well, but then the Truth that you know, is this.... ONCE YOU TASTED SALVATION, AND GO BACK TO SIN IN THE FLESH AGAIN, THERE IS NOT MORE SALVATION. YOU SHALL DIE THE SECOND DEATH... (REVELATIONS 2 and 20)

Hope this helps you a lot.

Maybe these verses help:

1 Cor 9:25-27 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

2 Pet. 2:20-22
For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

1 Corinthians 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

Hebrews 3:12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

You need to ask the question, "saved from what?"

A faulty understanding of what salvation actually is will lead to a false debate on this issue. If one believes salvation is some "abstract positional standing" one has "apart" from their "actual present existence/conduct" then it is really a vain debate, a debate that Paul would refer to as oppositions of knowledge falsely so called (1Tim 6:20).

The Bible teaches that Jesus came to save us from our sins (Mat 1:21) not IN them. Thus salvation involves a literal rescue from being under the dominion of sin (condemned) as well as from the bondage of sin.

When we are reconciled to God through the blood of Christ it can be said that we have been "saved" ie.

Tit 2:14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

Redeemed from all iniquity and made pure. If one returns to a state of defilement rooted in iniquity can they really claim to be saved? If the Israelites went back to Egypt would they have been still delivered?

The Bible warns...

Rom 11:19 Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in.
Rom 11:20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
Rom 11:21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.
Rom 11:22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

Rom 2:3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
Rom 2:4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
Rom 2:5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
Rom 2:6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
Rom 2:7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
Rom 2:8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

Under the old covenanat, Every year the High Priest entered the Most Holy Place with blood and it was accepted for the forgivenss of the people sins. For God loved them, and because he did he accepted sacrifices so His people could be forgiven. God hates sin, but His great love for his people was shown in His willingness to accept sin offerings for their inevitable sin, for God knew obviously human nature, the people would sin, did sin, but he forgave them. What mattered to God was the heart. And many did love him, and serve him, and follow him, but sacrifices still had to be made for their sin the same as everyone elses. The blood of bulls and goats didn't really satisfy God as a sin offering, but because of His great love, mercy and compassion He accerpted THEM

Now we have a new covenant, where there are no animal sacrifices, for Christ paid a once and for all sacrifice for the sins of those who would come to God through him

BUT according to those who follow STANDINGINTHEGAP God has now changed. He is not such a merciful and loving God, Jesus died to usher in a much harsher covenant. Now all sin must cease before God will accept anyone, and you have to make of yourself a pure heasrt, and you of yourself have to put the old man to death, and if you do sin after you are saved you are in grave risk of the fires of hell. And if you commit a wilfull sin, that's it, you're thrown out only hell awaits
So under the new covenant God is not as tolerant as under the old. Whereas he readily forgave the peoples sins then, now he won't
Now if I had a choice, I'd have prefered to be under the first covenant, than the covenant that follwed(OR PROFESSED TO BE FOLLOWED) BY THOSE WHO FOLLOW STANDINGINTHEGAP

Of course under the old coveannt there were those who gave outwardly a very Godly appearance, and demanded strict observance of the law(sin is transgression of the law) And they continuously stressed that the law must be upheld, and the consequences of not rigidly obeying it, however Christ said this concerning those people:

Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: [SUP]2 [/SUP]‘The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. [SUP]3 [/SUP]So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practise what they preach. [SUP]4 [/SUP]They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.

Hi there Prodigal5,

to answer your question. No, you cannot lose your salvation because in the first place it is not yours to lose. Salvation is of God. That passage of Scripture which you shared is doctrinally for the Hebrews. That is why the title of the book is Hebrews. Matthew, Acts and Hebrews are the three books in the Bible that most Christians and even a lot of pastors trip over doctrinally and dispensationally. The reason being is because Matthew, Acts and Hebrews are all transitional books. And you have to rightly divide the word of truth (2 Tim. 2:15). That is why approaching the Bible dispensationally is so important. The Book of Hebrews is mainly written to the Jews in the time of Jacob's trouble. Many parts of Hebrews can be applied to the Christian in the Church Age for instruction in Righteousness though. But again, Hebrews is doctrinally for the Hebrews in the time of Jacob's trouble. Also, in the time of Jacob's trouble a person can lose their salvation by taking the mark of the beast.

But in the Church Age which is the dispensation which we are now living in, a Christian cannot lose their salvation.

In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, - Ephesians 1:13 (KJV)

And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. - Ephesians 4:30 (KJV)

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. 30 I and my Father are one. - John 10:27-30 (KJV)

28So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. 29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: 30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. - Ephesians 5:28-30 (KJV)

As you can see from those Scriptures, we are sealed by the Holy Spirit unto the day of redemption. And also we are all part of the body of Christ. We are bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh. So just from reading those Scriptures, how could any Christian still be convinced that he could lose his salvation? We are saved by grace through faith alone and we are also kept by grace through faith.

If a Christian could lose his salvation in this dispensation, then he never had eternal life to begin with. But Jesus promised to give those that came to Him eternal life. Therefore, any Christian in this dispensation known as the church age cannot lose his or her salvation. We don't stay saved by doing good works. Our works cannot keep us saved. It is God who keeps us.

We do good works because we are saved. And it is God that keeps our souls.

Well I hope this helped prodigal5. Here is a Sermon that you might also want to listen to in regard to Eternal Security:

think about that passage,, then think about the author meant when he said 'they crucify Christ again" then read the passage which follows that part.. and you should get your answer.

yes I am gonna make you think :p lol.. I see it is the best way to learn

Show me a passage where a person is born again, a child of God, and a passage that states a person can be un-born again, or go from being a child of God to a child of Satan.

You do have passages that state you can fall away from the faith, but in these passages in never says that these people where ever born-again or truly saved. Falling away is simply just that, for example, a child brought up in the faith who later in life leaves the faith of the gospel for the things of the world. God is in the business of redeeming people, not casting out the ones He purchases with His blood. Jesus said, "all who come to me, I will surely not cast out." John 6:37

Yes a person can loose his salvation if he forsake the Lord and be a worshiper of satan. That means he had never been saved.
But the predestined are those who God will never let them loose their salvation because the are pleasing to Him and they love God with all their hearts.

Yes you can loose your secure position, no such thing as OSAS there should be no debate as many lives are at stake here, but Hebrews ch 6 as you quoted it referring to those who are actually saved, through real repentance and faith, not the popular sinners prayer salvation being sold as truth today.

So those in the lukewarm church have no problem sinning every day against God,, and most are wallowing in sin and rebellion, so they trample the one time sacrifice of Christ's blood every day! Heba 9-14.

They have never repented are in great danger of the judgment!

Without repentance(wilful sin stopped) there is no remission of sins!

Ezekiel explains it well: Take heed:Eze 18:26 When a righteous one turns away from his righteousness and commits iniquity and dies in them; for his iniquity that he has done, he shall die.
Eze 18:27 Again, when the wicked turns away from his wickedness that he has committed and does that which is lawful and righteous, he shall save his soul alive.
Eze 18:28 Because he looks carefully, and turns away from all his sins that he has committed, he shall surely live; he shall not die.
Eze 18:29 Yet says the house of Israel: The way of Jehovah is not fair. O house of Israel, are not My ways fair? Are not your ways unfair?
Eze 18:30 So I will judge you, O house of Israel, each one of you according to his ways, says the Lord Jehovah. Turn and be made to turn from all your sins; and iniquity shall not be your stumbling-block.
Eze 18:31 Cast away from you all your sins by which you have sinned; and make you a new heart and a new spirit; for why will you die, O house of Israel?
Eze 18:32 For I have no delight in the death of him who dies, says the Lord Jehovah. Therefore turn and live.

My minister will not "re-baptize" anyone. As he puts it...that's like saying God didn't mean it the first time, or that he doesn't keep his promises. He will re-affirm a baptism for someone who is coming back to the Lord.

Hey I am in a Theology class right now and we have an assignment called the great debate... one of the topics was security in faith and we were assigned to take sides. My side got that you can use your Salvation.
I am thinking of scripture that would back me up.

its hard now because I am not even really sure what I believe

Hebrews 6:4-6 "[SUP]4 [/SUP]It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit,[SUP]5 [/SUP]who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age[SUP]6 [/SUP]and who have fallen[SUP][a][/SUP] away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace."

Here are scriptures to back you up (certainly not exhaustive):

Not everyone that says "Lord, Lord" will enter Heaven: Matthew 7:21-23
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Final salvation, which is inheriting the kingdom, can be forfeited: Matthew 24:45-51
45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;
49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;
50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Matthew 10:33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

2 Timothy 2:11-13
11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:
12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:
13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

Carnality is enmity against God: Romans 8:6-7
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

James 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. Indwelling sins simply depicts a heart that has already strayed from God. In that passage, for a believer to conform to the sinful standards of the world is committing spiritual adultery against God, this was the Israelites' problem. Such person will become an enemy of God and God's enemies will not spend eternity with Him. Though I must point out that the Holy Spirit will not allow a believer get away with sins, they will incur the reprimanding hand of God (Heb 12:6-11) so they ought to repent and return to the Lord and He will in no wise cast them away and will more than abundantly pardon i.e. the parable of the prodigal son. This is one of the great promises of God and benefits of Christ's atoning work (1 John 1:8-10, 1 John 2:1-2). However, if they refuse to repent and die in their sins God will appoint them their portion with unbelievers (Matt 24:51, Rom 6:23).

Erring from the truth and falling into condemnation again: James 5:12, 19-20
12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.
19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;
20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

We will reap what we sow: Galatians 6:7-8
7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

Gentiles grafted in, but can be cut off again: Romans 11:21-22
21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.
22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

Sins that can keep one out of Heaven: Galatians 5:19-21
19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Ephesians 5:3-7
3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.

Matt 15:19-20
19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

1 Cor 3:16-17 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. Take not that Paul was telling that to a body of believers. Satan will have believers think they can defile their hearts, minds, and bodies and still enter Heaven to just lose rewards - he started propagating this lie in the Garden of Eden. On the contrary, the bible says that God is of purer eyes than to behold evil and without holiness no one will see Him.

People in the faith can depart: 1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

Dog returning to its vomit: 2 Peter 2:20-22
21 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

Names blotted out of the Book of Life: Revelation 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. The Book of Life has every born-again Christian's name in it. The moment one accepts Jesus into their heart their name will be written in this book, however, according to this passage if a believer does not overcome (endure) till the end their name will be blotted out.

Revelation 2:5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

By the way, we do have security in Christ provided that we follow Him, living in obedience to His commands (John 10:27-29, Heb 5:9), but the bible does not teach that we have security in sin (1 John 1:6, 1 John 2:4). There are also passages in the bible that exhort believers to be holy in order to see God and we should love God with all our hearts, however if eternal security was true these passages are irrelevant. In addition, it encourages false conversion, removes the fear of God from people's heart, and encourages ungodly living since, as the advocates claim, once saved no sins bring eternal condemnation.

Read mostly the New Testament and you will find numerous passages that support your position, also pray for wisdom and the Holy Spirit's guidance in analyzing His word. Good luck with your assignment.

Yes a person can loose his salvation if he forsake the Lord and be a worshiper of satan. That means he had never been saved.
But the predestined are those who God will never let them loose their salvation because the are pleasing to Him and they love God with all their hearts.

Excuse me im just an ole boy. But, could you please explain how you can lose your salvation if you never been saved. Thanks

You can lose 'your ' salvation but not His Salvation. Sorry not much help for your side.
What in the world are you talking about; "His salvation"?
He never was lost. Therefore, He never needed salvation, He never got saved, so He had no salvation to lose.
[h=3]John 15:6[/h] "If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.

Can a born again
Christian ever lose his salvation?

Can a Christian ever lose their salvation? Can someone who has truly been saved ever be lost?
What saith the scriptures?

Salvation is BELIEVING in Jesus Christ

Salvation is trusting or believing in, by faith, that Jesus Christ paid for your sins with His blood on the cross of Calvary.

"He that BELIEVETH on the Son hath everlasting life:. . ." John 3:36

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever BELIEVETH in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16

We are NOT saved by WORKS

The Bible makes it clear that OUR WORKS has nothing whatsoever to do with our salvation.

We don't receive it by our works — and we don't keep it by our works!

" NOT BY WORKS of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us,. . ." Titus 3:5

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: NOT OF WORKS, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8,9

Salvation is a FREE GIFT

Salvation is the free gift of God. If we had to work to keep it — it would not be a free gift — and God would be a liar!

". . . the GIFT of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23

". . .by the righteousness of one THE FREE GIFT came upon all men unto justification of life." Romans 5:18

Salvation is a NEW BIRTH.

Salvation is not enduring or a process, but an event in time. Salvation is a NEW BIRTH. Just as your first birth happened on a certain time and day, so does the second birth.

"(For he saith, I have heard thee in a TIME accepted, and in THE DAY OF SALVATION have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted TIME; behold, now is THE DAY OF SALVATION.)" 2 Corinthians 6:2

"Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be BORN AGAIN, he cannot see the kingdom of God." John 3:3

"Being BORN AGAIN, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever." 1 Peter 1:23

You become a CHILD OF GOD

Once you are born again SPIRITUALLY — you become a child of God.

"Beloved, NOW are we the SONS OF GOD, . . ." 1 John 3:2

"For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of ADOPTION, whereby we cry, Abba, FATHER." Romans 8:15

Nothing can SEPARATE us from our Father

Just as nothing can "negate" your physical birth, nothing can "negate" your spiritual birth.

My children will always be my children. We may have troubled times. Our fellowship may be broken, but our relationship can never be broken. They will always be my children. Nothing or nobody can change that! And once you are born again spiritually — God becomes your Father — nothing or nobody can change that! Your fellowship may be broken, but your relationship can never be broken!

"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, SHALL BE ABLE TO SEPARATE US from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:38

"My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand." John 10:29

Jesus will NEVER leave us

Jesus promised He will never leave us. Jesus could not say this if there was even a chance of losing our salvation.

". . .for he hath said, I WILL NEVER LEAVE THEE, nor forsake thee." Hebrews 13:5

". . . and, lo, I am with you ALWAY, even unto the end of the world. Amen." Matthew 28:20

We already HAVE eternal life

When the Bible speaks of possessing eternal life, it speaks in the present tense (hath, have, etc.) — SOMETHING WE ALREADY HAVE! If we had to work or endure to keep our salvation, this could not be true.

"He that believeth on the Son HATH EVERLASTING LIFE:.. ." John 3:36

"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that YE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE,. . ." 1 John 5:13

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, HATH EVERLASTING LIFE,. . ." John 5:24

We are PERFECTED FOR EVER

We are "perfected for ever" by Jesus Christ. How could the Lord say such a bold statement if we had to earn or keep our salvation?

"By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ ONCE FOR ALL. . . For by one offering he hath PERFECTED FOR EVER them that are sanctified." Hebrews 10:10,14

What about the BACKSLIDER?

What about the "backslider" or somebody that forsakes the Lord? The Bible says he will suffer loss (rewards, etc.) — but he himself shall be saved!

"For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: BUT HE HIMSELF SHALL BE SAVED; yet so as by fire." 1 Corinthians 3:11-15

"Now ye are the BODY OF CHRIST, and members in particular." 1 Corinthians 12:18

What if we later — BELIEVE NOT?

Our salvation is so secure — even if we BELIEVE NOT after we're saved, because we become part of Him (the body of Christ), ". . .yet he abideth faithful: HE CANNOT DENY HIMSELF."

"If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: HE CANNOT DENY HIMSELF." 2 Timothy 2:13

But what if I sin an awful sin?

1 Corinthians 5 reports of an awful sin in the church. And even though Paul commands ". . . To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh" — Paul still speaks of that person being saved — ". . .that the spirit MAY BE SAVED. . ."

"It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife. . .To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit MAY BE SAVED in the day of the Lord Jesus." 1 Corinthians 5:1,5

To lose your salvation — makes God a LIAR

With all the PROMISES from God to KEEP you, to SAVE you, to PRESERVE you — to even suggest you could lose your salvation — is to call God a LIAR!
". . .he that BELIEVETH NOT GOD hath made him a LIAR; . . ." 1 John 5:10

Why do people doubt their salvation?

• They trust in feelings rather than the word of God.

"He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool:. . ." Proverbs 28:26
  • They are confused by the simplicity of salvation.

"But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from THE SIMPLICITY that is in Christ." 2 Corinthians 11:3
  • They trust in tradition or church teachings rather than the word of God.

"Making the word of God of none effect through your TRADITION,. . ." Mark 7:13
  • They trust in their own righteousness.

". . . and all OUR RIGHTEOUSNESSES are as filthy rags;. . ." Isaiah 64:6
  • They misapply and misunderstand scriptures.

They misapply scriptures such as Matthew 24:13, Hebrews 10:26 to the church age of grace, when they doctrinally apply to the tribulation or the millenium.
  • They have NEVER been saved.

"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven;. . ." Matthew 7:21

Why are there verses in the bible that seem to support both loss of salvation and security?

In fact Paul says in Galatians 1:15-16
[SUP]15 [/SUP]But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me by his grace, was pleased [SUP]16 [/SUP]to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, my immediate response was not to consult any human being.

But then he also says
[h=4]1 Corinthians 9:27 No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.[/h]
Is paul teaching that He both can and cannot lose salvation?

I mean thread after thread comes up here on CC and I'm willing to wager every other christian board out there...why are there seemingly two messages in the bible on this issue?
