More than 2 billion people on earth (out of a total of 7 billion) are Christians!
Where are we heading? What is the goal? What is it what you want to see being achieved by humanity in your lifetime and beyond?
Discussion opened!
I would alter your opening point to 2 billion claim to be Christian instead of are Christian. If nearly 1/3 of all people are truly followers of Christ then we would be to most ineffective group in all of history as the world seems to be mostly unaffected by our presence. Truly I believer the number to be significantly lower than reported. My best guess, and it is only a guess is that the number is closer to 1.25 billion.
As to the goal. the goal is clearly laid out in the Great Comminsion. We ( the Believers) are to Go and preach the Gospel to all the world starting at home and rippling outward, to make disciples (new Believers).
Now preaching does not ONLY mean speaking. Granted it is the most common way. You can also openly live your faith in Christ and thus convict people by your life to seek out why you are different. In truth we are to do both. The Bible lists both as what we are to do.
Go does not just mean to get up off your butt and go physically out into the community in which it live and tell others of Jesus. With the advent of modern communications we can sit at home and reach for beyond out normal reach to different communities, states and nations. Keep in mind when you elect to limit yourself to a computer or phone or some such method to take out the active component of letting the person to are witnessing to see you live your faith.
In another thread the topic of Ananias and Sapphira was brought up. They spoke their "faith" by saying they gave all the money from the sale of some land to the Church. Their action, known by God showed this to be a lie as they kept some of the money from the sale. When they attempted to live their "faith" their witness was found wanting and they received the judgment due their actions. In that same portion of Scripture we know others did not do as they did but gave honestly and willingly and no judgment was sent.
What I am getting at is that when you do not go physically and witness to this fallen world you lessen your impact. Actions really do speak louder than words. We can sit here all day talking the talk and due to how far apart we are we may never have to show Christ in our lives to those we witness to. But God knows, there is no hiding our faith or lack there of from Him.
So we have a mission and we have a goal. Carry it out. Does that mean there is not time or place for things like Christian Chat? Of course not. We all need fellowship and instruction and to share prayer requests and praise reports. Just don't give up one for the other but do all things in moderation.
In Christ,
