I'm just wondering what since it seems like I'm get close to getting it. Like it's only a matter of time and not if I get it like thing. Could you tell me what you where feeling like just before you got it. Also maybe any other info you can give me on it.

As for me, it seems like God is waiting till I'm able to pray outloud without it feeling weird. I'm actually a very shy person. But does does this sound like something that God would be waiting for before giving me a gift like that?

I was born again in a pentecostal church in 1991... I easily pray outloud and boldly proclaim Jesus as my Lord. I get tingles up and down my body in validation to spiritual discussions. I have never spoken in tongues. I dont think the gift of tongues is given to all believers. Thats just my perspective. Perhpas the Lord has this in store for me in the future... but if not, i'm quite blessed with the gifts I've been given.

I believe that everyone can speak in tongues if they so desire. I do. And I don't believe it's something you need to 'work up to' either. If you want it, have someone pray over you. My pastor prayed over me. He told me that he was going to pray and then speak in tongues and I could as well when I felt comfortable. I could feel it on the tip of my tongue but I didn't say anything. He said it was okay, that he believed I'd be praying in tongues before I got home. He was right, before I even got to my CAR I was praying in tongues and in my car I was singing in tongues. For a long time I felt more confortable singing in tongues than praying.

To me it felt forgien at first, not wrong by any means, but forgien. It's truely broughten me closer to God though and I reccomend it to any believer.

Lets see... the first time it was two girls during discipleship walk.
then it was all 12 girls at my school.
then it was my pastor and a bunch of people at the altar - atleast two occasions.
then it was Pastor Saeed of Pheonix first at pastor's school
and then maybe 20 people after him.. oy.
then Pastor Martha Tenison and more elders of my church
and then all the girls again..

those people prayed for me to receive it.

i didn't get it until i was alone.

sometimes it works with others, sometimes it doesn't. keep trusting and stay patient. :)

I dunno if this will work for you but yeah get a person of strong faith and in a true relationship with God have them pray with you to recieve the Holy Spirit and the administration of his gifts. (when I was lead I kept praiseing and giving God glory untill a voice came to my mind telling me to say
Hallelujah over and over I did it as fast as I clould and in the mist of being tongue tied other words formed it sounded like hebrew although i did not know what I was saying. and at that point I felt a great warmth come all over me and I clearly heard a higher voice within my consciousness which was expressing to me all sorts of emotions and a feeling of peace and surity.) I still do not know what it is that I am saying when i do pray in the spirit but I know that I know God hears and recieves it. for he responds to it by sending his presence and by many other signs if you want to call them that.
but anyway that is what worked for me. Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah as quick as you can. I pray that God moves on your behalf and aids you in your search for spiritual maturity in Jesus name Amen. P.S Hallelujah anyhow, keep trusting that he is able and remain faithful. it's worth the wait.

Not everyone will get the gift of tongues. no matter how much you desire it and as far as saying a word or statement over and over til you get it twisted is not spiritually speaking in or praying in tongues it is confusion , you are mixing the word or words up and making gibber, God is not the Author of Confusion, that is man's way of making one's self of manifesting a spiritual gift

1co 12:7But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.1co 12:8For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;1co 12:9To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;1co 12:10To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:1co 12:11But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

when tongues are used in Church the Bible says that there will be an intrepreter. if your church is allowing tongues to be used without an interpreter they are not lined up with the Bible and when you ask them about it they will say that the Holy Spirit is God that He can do what ever He wants, But the bible teaches us that the Father , the Son, the Holy Spirit are the same they will never do anything against the other So if God inspired that there must be an interpreter than if it is of God There will be an interpreter. as far as praying in tonguesJesus teaches us to prayer in a humble matter not broadcasting it But the greatest one who prays will put, his head down on his chest. not making a show of it.

1co 14:26How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.1co 14:27If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.1co 14:28But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.

Blah, I'm not as sure that I'm gonna get it anymore. Or maybe it just that I'm depressed that's making me think that? I think I'm getting attacked more than normal. So I"m not really sure of anything right now.

I received validation when reading this post. Keep in mind though, the gift of tongues may not be your gift. Blessings to you as you seek your place in the body of Christ... the Lord knows and I'm sure you do too, or will have your spiritual gifts revealed soon.

So if you don't have a gift, what does that mean?

If you don't have it, no worries. It's a gift. It doesn't determine your salvation. It doesn't make you a better Christian if you have it, or less of a Christian if you don't. But it's a good gift to have. It helps in your walk and brings you closer to God, just like all other gifts :D

Just go in your room sit down and say Lord help me to pray in tongues. Think in your mind that he's going to help you. Open you mouth. You'll feel like saying da da or some wierd sounds. Your mind will say that can't be it. That seems silly. Get your mind out od the way. Keep your mouth open. Keep thinking I'm going to speak in tongues. What ever sounds come to you speak them. Doesn't matter what your mind thinks. It's the holy Spirit talking. What ever sounds come to you just keep speaking them. It may be the same sounds over and over. It is speaking in tongues. Some people only get a few sounds at first. Just keep speaking them. Some people get this big hit of the Holy Spirit and this awsome feeling when they first speak in tongues. Some don't get that at all. We are all to do it. Speaking in tongues opens you up inside to make you bigger and bigger to hold more and more of God. The bible says to pray to speak in tongues. It says to pray to interrupt the tongues. You are being used as a vessel for Gods Kingdom. You allowing the Holy Spirit to use you for his will by speaking in tongues can be saving peoples lives around your or across the world. It's very important. It is another act of surrendering you to God. Once you get into doing it jus tbecause the bible says for you to do it. It will be a habbit to you. Sometimes you can be doing it and all the sudden feel very sad or very mad. Know that thr you warfare is being done. Knocking out demons. Sometimes you can feel the Holy Spirit on you real strong then you know you are to speak it loud because you may interupt or someone may be told to interupt. For your begining you just do it till it comes.

Let us all remember... just because you received the gift a certain way doesn't mean it works for everyone. Instead of telling someone what to DO to receive the gift, tell them your personal experience. It happens differently to everyone, and giving instructions of how to receive it can confuse and frustrate the person so much more. I was hurt GREATLY by people telling me what to do when I pray for it. NONE of their advice worked and my faith was shaken greatly. You have good intentions in saying these things, but you don't realize how it can confuse and affect someone who's seeking the gift. Direct them to the Scriptures and how it happened in the Bible. Direct them to pray about how GOD wants them to pray for it. Love on them. But please... be VERY careful when you discuss how to receive it. God brings the gift. A person cannot coax the gift to appear on its own. It comes in God's timing.
