It's a wonder that from those that make a big huga-baloo out of Christmas not a peep about the observance of Good Friday...which I consider one of the two most important days (if you are going to observe-ponder the days) of the Christan year along with Resurrection Day. I mean after all, it was only when the Son of God died on the cross for our sins...that's all, no big deal, huh?

I was reminded that it is Good Friday and I think everyone should take some time to reflect on the day and what Christ has done for us. May we thank and praise him today and remember to be a bit more loving than normal when we interact with people today.

God Bless!

The thing that so often gets left out of the Christmas story is that the Christmas story points to Good Friday and Easter. Christmas is just the starting point of the fulfillment of God's promise of a savior.

Ooo that reminds me of

Stricken, Smitten, and Afflicted By: Thomas Kelly

Stricken, smitten, and afflicted,
See him dying on the tree!
This is Christ, by man rejected;
Here, my soul, your Savior see.
He’s the long expected prophet,
David’s son, yet David’s Lord.
Proofs I see sufficient of it:
He’s the true and faithful Word.

Tell me, all who hear him groaning,
Was there ever grief like this?
Friends through fear his cause disowning,
Foes insulting his distress;
Many hands were raised to wound him,
None would intervene to save;
But the deepest stroke that pierced him
Was the stroke that justice gave.

You who think of sin but lightly
Nor suppose the evil great
Here may view its nature rightly,
Here its guilt may estimate.
Mark the sacrifice appointed;
See who bears the awful load;
It’s the Word, the Lord’s Anointed,
Son of Man and son of God.

Here we have a firm foundation;
Here the refuge of the lost;
Christ, the rock of our salvation,
His the name of which we boast.
Lamb of God, for sinners wounded,
Sacrifice to cancel guilt!
None shall ever be confounded
Who on him their hope have built.

Even today there are some good lyrics...

"How Deep The Father's Love For Us"

How deep the Father's love for us,
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure

How great the pain of searing loss,
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the chosen One,
Bring many sons to glory

Behold the Man upon a cross,
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice,
Call out among the scoffers

It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished

I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection

Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom

Isa 53:1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?
Isa 53:2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, [there is] no beauty that we should desire him.
Isa 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were [our] faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
Isa 53:4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
Isa 53:5 But he [was] wounded for our transgressions, [he was] bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace [was] upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Isa 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Isa 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
Isa 53:8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
Isa 53:9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither [was any] deceit in his mouth.
Isa 53:10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put [him] to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see [his] seed, he shall prolong [his] days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.
Isa 53:11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, [and] shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
Isa 53:12 Therefore will I divide him [a portion] with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Last night i walked round my 3 neighbours ( we live in the country :) and took them Easter nests filled with eggs i had made and a card. Today I have had a busy morning getting the house ready for lots of visitors this weekend and this afternoon I have been in my bothy ( my quite place in the garden, very peaceful and i am surrounded by my books...) I have been listening to Premier (UK Christian radio station) and there was a very moving play about the crucifixion, also reading through the 'stations of the cross'. Then a play about Dietrich Bonhoeffer, which was excellent...so, I am 'celebrating' this special time and look forward to leaving husband at home cooking our Easter Sunday roast, while I head off to celebrate that the tomb is empty and Christ is risen. <><

Salvation Day! This is what I like to call it. This is the day our Lord's agony for my sins ended, and I thank Him. Oh how I would like to thank Him enough, but He loves me anyway, amen.

Last Sunday we were given the lyrics to The Old Rugged Cross along with our Humlines (bulletin) and worship folder. I remember my dad loved this hymn when I was little, but I couldn't have sung it myself. It was nice to read the words, they are really great. Hope you enjoy them.

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suffering and shame;
and I love that old cross,
where the dearest and best
for a world of lost sinners was slain.

So I'll cherish the old rugged cross
till my trophies at last I lay down.
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
and exchange it someday for a crown.

O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
has a wondrous attraction for me;
for the dear lamb of God left his glory above
to bear it to dark Calvary.

In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine
a wondrous beauty I see for 'twas on the old cross
Jesus suffered and died, to pardon and sanctify me.

To the old rugged cross I will ever be true
its shame and reproach gladly bear,
then He'll call me some day, to my home far away,
where his glory for ever I'll share.

John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life"

Luke 23:34:
"Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”

This is a beautiful song: Lots of videos on youtube to listen to

For what earthly reason

For what earthly reason would the heavenly Father send down His Son
To suffer rejection and pay for crimes he had not done

For what earthly reason would the Father let him hang on a tree
I wept with the answer that one earthly reason was me

I was the reason, that one earthly reason
I was the guilty, He was the sacrifice
I was the taker, He was the giver
Dying that I go free
That one earthly reason was me

The fairest of angels were not summoned from the throne up in the sky
To purchase my pardon not even the angels could die
The only provision for my freedom was destined to be
That sweet lamb of glory and His only reason was me

I was the reason, that one earthly reason
I was the guilty, He was the sacrifice
I was the taker, He was the giver
Dying that I go free
That one earthly reason was me
