"For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. [SUP]8 [/SUP]But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. [SUP]9 [/SUP]For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. [SUP]10 [/SUP]He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. [SUP]11 [/SUP]Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing."

My questions are:

Are we encouraging one another, or are we tearing one another down in this forum?

Do we have faith and love and the hope of salvation?

I only ask, because I made a stupid mistake and accused someone of posting something that was not right, and I was in the wrong. I think my mouth (fingers) were WAY ahead of my respect and caring of another follower of Jesus Christ.

I think we all need to pray before we post, be gracious and love one another.

For those who are not Christians, or have alternate views, please respect this forum as being for Christians. I think we all welcome questions about what we believe, but NOT constant challenges to our faith.

As for sound doctrine, let us stick to the Bible, preferably in the original Biblical languages!! LOL OK, that would stifle most discussion. Maybe recognizing that translations are imperfect, but we CAN find good doctrine in English versions, especially through side by side translations. And of course, good hermeneutics always requires context, context, and context. The passage, the chapter, the book, the Testament, the Bible and in light of Jesus Christ. (Historical setting is also important!!)

I use Biblegateway.com and always compare 5 different versions including a Hebrew translation, Mounce's Greek interlinear and KJV. I know a lot of verses in KJV and sometimes the poetry of the words in magical.

But I digress. Let us all try to love one another.

is this a self memo?

<flowers so you don't think i'm picking on you>

ummm maybe another Bible verse... those were the first to pop up............

:) there. I like that one. It reminds us not to beat ourselves up too much about past mistakes but to give them to God and allow Him to work in our lives because in our weakness HIS strength gets us through the trials and tribulation and heartache the world will try to use to pull us down and discourage us. :)

I don't really have anything to say. I just liked the title of the thread and wanted to post something for you to read :)

No, I already apologized in PM and in the thread. Maybe I made it seem that way in my OP??

It just seems like a lot of fighting and picking on one another, instead of encouraging one another.

Thanks for responding and the lovely picks and verses, Ariel. Something to ponder, no doubt about it.

"May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus," Romans 15:5

"So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, [SUP]2 [/SUP]complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. [SUP]3 [/SUP]Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves." Phil. 2:1-3

"For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you and for those at Laodicea and for all who have not seen me face to face, [SUP]2 [/SUP]that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God's mystery, which is Christ, [SUP]3 [/SUP]in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge." Col. 2:1-3

Can I get an amen at least??

Yes in the light of increasing hostile challenges here on CC, speaking the Truth in Love is not always easy.

I have been thinking how hugs and kisses have become tainted by the world's view and the rampant sexuality and perverseness of men's minds.

My kids are little but I've already had to start teaching my daughter that its not always acceptable to hug and kiss everyone she meets. However some days I wonder why that is?

  • Luke 15:20 “And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.

  • Luke 22:47 [ Betrayal and Arrest in Gethsemane ] And while He was still speaking, behold, a multitude; and he who was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them and drew near to Jesus to kiss Him.

  • Luke 22:48 But Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”
  • Acts 20:37 Then they all wept freely, and fell on Paul’s neck and kissed him,
  • Romans 16:16 Greet one another with a holy kiss. The churches of Christ greet you.

  • 1 Corinthians 16:20 All the brethren greet you. Greet one another with a holy kiss.
  • 2 Corinthians 13:12 Greet one another with a holy kiss.

  • 1 Thessalonians 5:26 Greet all the brethren with a holy kiss.
  • 1 Peter 5:14 Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace to you all who are in Christ Jesus. Amen.

  • When did hugs and kiss stop being about LOVE and start being about LUST and sex?

When people say "love" most assume its about the "love" between a man and a woman, but what about the LOVE of a parent and a child? or the love between siblings? or the love between friends?

i wonder some days if people take out the colors from the crayon box when they try and paint a picture about what love is with only one color...........lol ok, now i know i need to go to bed and find more adult to have conversations with. i'm using crayon analogies. lol....

Amen, sister. That definitely needed to be said. I've been accused of heresy myself due to a few things I disagree with in church doctrine, but I say anybody who believes Jesus is Lord, who died for our sins, and was roused from the dead is Christian regardless of any theology you add to that. I can disagree with some fellow Christians and still love them. Since you mentioned a few study aids, I'll share a couple links, one to the Concordant Version and the other to the Interlinear Scripture Analyzer that compares the ancient text, an ultra-literal translation, the Concordant Version, the King James Version, and Young's Literal Translation.

"Love is patient, is kind. Love is not jealous. Love is not bragging, is not puffed up, is not indecent, is not self-seeking, is not incensed, is not taking account of evil, is not rejoicing in injustice, yet is rejoicing together with the truth, is forgoing all, is believing all, is expecting all, is enduring all. Love is never lapsing" (1 Corinthians 13:4-8)
