ESV = English Standard Version. A little more word for word than NRSV but it doesn't flow as well in places (when you read it).

Thanks Tintin. I have been enjoying the living translation. it flows good for me, but I also refer back to the king james version if I have questions and the strongs concordance. ***keeping it real***

I rather like those versions using todays language. I wish God hinself were updating the Bible itself, as a blog, adding those things He never asked to be written on the "known" versions we have, but the core thing with them is the message, its meaning, leading us to FAITH, justice and mercy. :D

You have said it, and it is true. The Father loves us so much, He will get what He wants each of us to know to us. That is just some of how much He loves you and me.

Now to the subject of your thread. I love the KJV because I was raised with it, but any version is just fine. The real understanding most certainly is imparted by the Holy Spirit. When I first beleived and I traveled sharing the Word with anyone who would hear me, I would say, "If it is God's will, you will get the truth from a Betty Crocker Cookbook." Yes, I do believe that, because while sharing His Word from the Bible, at that time it was the Oxford University Bible, I saw so many incredible lessons dealt out by the Holy Spirit to so many in so many almost uncanny manners.
Bottom line, the verion one is comfortable with is the best, I believe.

Just to affirm, I do believe God will get His Word out to those who earnestly & prayerfully seek Him in many ways, so I pray this will be edifying and not just an avenue for ' KJV only' to display their passion :) I am interested in what different Bibles are loved by you all and that you would recommend & why. In anticipation.....Thank you, <><

Sorry Jinx, was not in here for a while...I think reading a few versions is useful. I have gathered over the years a wee collection :) and have NASB, KJV, NKJV, NLT, Amplified, and just got this ESV. God is not confined :) God Bless <><
