I've already asked myself this same question time and time again...
What business does a "Christian" have with TV?
I asked this question in the Bible Study room today and the lack of enthusiasm made me wonder if I should be posting it here. I know TV is a major distraction from the Father and Son in my own walk and I have committed myself to giving it up. I do enjoy watching documentaries and learning things on YouTube, however, that can be just another form of TV.
A point a brother brought up in chat was the first commandment...you shall have no other Gods before ME.
This is difficult to put the Father and Son first in ALL things. My own selfish nature precludes obeying, to the point of denial of the Father at times, a situation the Father is helping me with.
There are many reasons one could justify TV in their own mind...however, does justifying a sin make it any less sinful?
One could suggest a "balance" in regards to the time spent watching TV...but even sampling a small amount of cyanide or sarin can be lethal to the physical body, what possibilities exist concerning TV on our spirit?
I know first hand what TV has done to my spirit, I have also seen it's effects on others as well.
Another thought that came to me is this..."Could TV and Hollywood be, for lack of a better term, a Synagogue of Satan?"
When I think about it, I consider the billions around the world who turn to the TV daily instead of to the Father above. In essence, it IS a form of highly addictive "worship and programming" is it not?
So, when I think about a "synagogue" setting, I consider a church...the plate passes around, you make a donation to further the causes of the church, charities, etc.
Now if we look at it from a different perspective, when that Cable TV bill comes due every month, and you pay it, are you not also, in essence, putting a "donation in the plate" to the "church" that corrupts the minds and spirits of billions daily? Is this the "charity" you wish to donate your money to?
I know this isn't pleasant to think about, in fact, the more unpleasant the idea of giving up TV is, the greater the indication that it's a war of the flesh going on within you.
Has TV become your God or Idol?
I'm truly sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
I'm not trying to sound "preachy" or tell anyone what they should or shouldn't do. I do realize that everyone has their own walk. Some choose the straight road, some choose the winding paths. Some take longer than others, and some never arrive at all. I'm just trying to hold up a road sign pointing the way to the Father...or if you prefer, a caution sign warning of "road work ahead."

Christ came to free us from the chains...let's all take the chains off and throw them away for good!
Peace and love to you all!
Exodus 20 Then God spoke all these words, saying,
[SUP]2 [/SUP]“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of [SUP][a][/SUP]slavery.
[SUP]3 [/SUP]“You shall have no other gods [SUP][b][/SUP]before Me.
[SUP]4 [/SUP]“You shall not make for yourself [SUP][c][/SUP]an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. [SUP]5 [/SUP]You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, [SUP]6 [/SUP]but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
"Tune in next week for an all new exciting episode...The Emptying of the Cup!"

If any of you think this message is worth "keeping alive", perhaps you could "bump it to the front" from time to time so new members could see it? Perhaps the Administrators may even wish to rewrite it and make it a "sticky topic?"
I do believe that this is a message that shouldn't be lost to the archives.
