When we receive Jesus as Savior we receive ALL of Him which includes His Lordship whether we realize it or not. He doesn't come piecemeal as Savior but He saves as the LORD Jesus (Salvation) Christ (annointed One). Our realization of Him as Lord grows as we grow in Him.

There are some who pervert this to force a form of legalism on new believers. While it is true that Christ is our Lord He also understands our weaknesses having been made like unto sinful man Himself. We must grow in Christ as babes first desiring the sincere milk of the word then into workmen that needeth not to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of God.

There's no cause for concern. Salvation, by faith and not works, brings about heart transformation, in other words we begin to bear the attributes of God (i.e. the fruit of the Spirit) because of His Spirit indwelling us, and we have assurance of salvation based on His promise that whosoever believeth (present continuous tense) hath eternal life. The new believer will seek for the sincere milk of the word to flourish.:)
