My son liked a Did-You-Know page on Facebook and then started posting the tidbits on twitter and found this one recently.

The human soul weighs 21 gms. Really? Our soul has weight?!

I began to argue the point with him (even his dad did, and he's not a believer) and Dale (my son) explained it had to do with a person's weight before death and then immediately after death and there was apparently a difference of 21 gms. So it was concluded that the soul, "being the only logical thing that could have "left" the body, must have weighed the 21 gms."

I still don't believe this. I know there must be an actual physical, medical reason for the weight difference and I'm sure there is someone here on CC who knows more about this and can explain it properly. Wouldn't this be like saying a ghost or angel has "weight?"

Please, very curious as to your thoughts...

(btw, 21 gms is .046927 lbs)

Wow! I've never heard this before...kinda interesting. Not for nothing, but It wouldn't shock me really to find out that our soul might have weight to it. Like the electrical current in our bodies...maybe it has something to do with that?? I don't really believe in "ghosts" per say But I don't see why something in the spiritual can't have some sort of mass to it. lol kinda cool.

However, doctors will tell you that is the weight of the amount of bodily fluids which are lost immediately with death. And if you have ever been present when one dies you would know that out of their bottom does come fluid at the moment they die.

I have personally witnessed more than a few times.

I guess the question is: What is a soul? The Bible says it always takes 2 things to make a soul. Body + Breath = a living soul.

"And the lord God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." Genesis 2:7

What happens when a person dies?

"Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it." Eccleasates 12:7

Air has weight. Actually the Bible declared that air has weight long before scientists found it to be true. "To make the weight for the winds." Job 28:25.

So,, in closing,,, we are living souls. Souls die. "The soul that sinneth shall die",, and we all have sinned.

i think this was a result of a study done in the 1800s or 1900s...however the findings have not been reproduced since...and nowdays this study would not have met some of the basic requirements for modern scientific methods...
