Okay, so I really hope this isn't a stupid question but I was seriously wondering.
Is it wise to marry someone with a different denomination?
Like they say you shouldn't marry someone with a different religion. So does that also apply for denominations? For example what if one person is a strong Calvinist and the other a strong Evangelist?

....oh my word I hope you guys kinda understand where I am getting at and I don't sound crazy :(.

religion and denomination are kinda the same thing. I think that the word denomination is a title of the type of religion you hold.

as far as marrying someone with different beliefs, that could get kinda sticky later on in your marriage.

Biblically it doesn't matter, as long as both of you are saved.
If you're both saved, then you'd be "equally yoked."

But practically, as far as it just causing problems... that's something else.

It would depend on how different your doctrinal beliefs happened to be.
Some denominations can get along fine together, and some are just a little too different.

I don't know :( I just think it is sad, that man takes the word of God and divides His house according to the type of socks Jesus wore...

I know some topics are more controversial then others... But from my experiences most of the debates fall under what socks he wore.

(sorry for not really answering the question.)

I'm a Reformed Baptist, which means it would not be a good idea for me to marry an Arminian Methodist.

Why??? Because our children would be predestined to be theologically confused!!!

I also could not marry a Presbyterian woman (even though she would be "Reformed" herself).

Why??? Because we Baptists don't have towels small enough for babies!!! (that's a paedobaptism jab - lol).

It could cause problems. Then again it may work well.
I used to date a guy who was a devout Catholic. I am not. He did go to church with me once, and after services were over he told me everything wrong the preacher said, and how I was not even worshipping God because I am not Catholic. I dumped him.

If by chance you or anyone is involved with someone that has different beliefs just be careful.

I do agree that an Arminian should never marry a Calvinist. We had two churches in Canada - Presbyterian (Reformed) and Methodist (Arminian) and they joined together in the early 20th century. It was the largest Protestant denomination in Canada, but they totally lost their focus on the gospel, on Jesus and believing the Bible. I know that was because in order for the union to work, both groups had to lose their beliefs. So they lost pretty much everything. They ordain homosexuals and they literally do not believe in Jesus. Anyone with faith left the denomination a long, long time ago. Very sad example of different beliefs resulting in no beliefs! Of course, it could end up the opposite. With neither giving way, and fighting and divorce. That would also be bad.

God doesn't like division and His house is truly being divided. Northern Baptist doesn't like the southern Baptist and the Southern Baptist doesn't agree with the penecostal and etc.... If Christians that stay away from each other will never learn nothing about their neighbors. Catagorizing Christians is very silly, as a child , I could never understand it...

Here is a humorous video of a man who wrote a song after he began suspecting his wife was a Calvinist.

Hey, if the two of them can get along with theological differences, perhaps there is hope for other Christians as well - lol.

Differences in doctrine may be a source of argument between the couple but then, if they both understand what Galatians chapter 3 said things will definitely work out. "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus" Galatians 3:28 (KJV)

This is not a dumb question. It is the kinds of questions you should consider before you tie the knot.

I suggest you go through premarital counseling (PMC) at your church or his or thru a christian counseling service. These questions are discussed PMC. The therapist will try to point out areas that might be a source of conflict. It is far better off finding them out now then getting a surprise later.

Congrats on the engagement.
