I was just wondering, what is your favourite book or passage in the Bible and why?
or, What's a passage/verse that has a particularly deep meaning for you and why? I particularly like the gospels, especially John. I'm not sure why John is my favourite, but reading through it, it just felt like I was with Jesus while everything was happening, like I could see it in my mind. The gospels are so neat because we get four accounts of who Jesus was. We see what His personality is and that makes it easier for us to be like Him as Christians. I love that Jesus got frustrated, that he got upset sometimes, that he loved, and wept, and grieved, and that he had to resist temptations just like the rest of us. For all that He was the son of God, He was still human, like me, like you. And what's even better, we KNOW heaven exists, we KNOW what will happen to us when we die because Jesus died, and Jesus came back and assured us. I just love His personality, it makes it so much easier to relate to Him when we see Him as a human underneath all the spiritual and Godly stuff. It's amazing. So what about you? |

Yeah, I know what you mean about John, he sort of describes it in such a clear way. My favourite is one of the verses where he says that Jesus did MANY more miracles and that if each was written down the whole world couldn't hold the books, but the ones that were written were written so that we could believe! How powerful is that? He says right there, hey! Here are the miracles, if you don't believe, just look at the eye witness accounts of all these things He's done so you CAN believe! Seeing is believing right? Well HERE IT IS!
Psalms are nice, too. Sometimes I just like to open my Bible to a random page in psalms and read them. I haven't made my way to Corrinthian's yet. I'm on Acts right now, but I'm looking forward to it if your description of it is right! Thanks for posting, Pickles! |

My favorite has always recently been the psalms. The psalms are the perfect expression of what most people will ever think and feel in their lives. It's all there: joy, sorrow, fear, anger, comfort, abandonment, hope...there is nothing we can't find in the psalms that can reflect ourselves so truly.
I join the monks on campus for liturgical prayer twice a day where the psalms are chanted for the whole service. I've never been one for memorizing Bible quotes, but just from being with them the past 2 years, I find myself recalling lines from psalms during the day that we have chanted, or one or two will pop into my head when I encounter some significant event in my daily life. |

I really love James and Philippians. Submit yourself to god resist the devil and he will flee, draw near to god and he'll draw near to you. I love that verse in james! I've always struggled with anxiety, and reading Philippians relaxs me.

I love the Gospel of Mark. It is fast paced and presents Jesus as a man of action. It is shorter than the other 3 gospels. It begins and ends with two major points.
1. Jesus is the Son of God 2. The Gospel |

Proverbs 31 wife of nobel Charactor King Lemuel's mom wanted this type of woman for him. I think if we strived to be even 1/2 the woman she describes our husbands will be truly blessed. Many say that this is about opression of women but I see contained in these words a VERY POWERFUL woman! I also love Job 4 12-15 this given to me in prayer 6 months after my mom passed away. the night she passed someone was standing by my bed (1:35 am) I am a deep sleeper, thought it was my son and went to tell him to get back to bed and it went whoosh over my face across the bed. 6 months later i was asking God what was that?? an angel? my mom? what... job 4 - 11 (the rest of the passages dealt with another issue i was dealing with and praying about at the time) anyway this passage came to mind and God answered that it was a spirit. I think the Lord was preparing me for the trials to come. (btw I'd never read the book of Job prior to this) Another scripture given to me was numbers 11 when praying about work.
Romans 8: 38 & 39 Nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Good grief there are a million arent there! 2 cor 4:15 For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. I love ABUNDANT GRACE! wow. And of course my signature. these are a few of many many many. |

Job can be a hard book to read, as it's comprised largely of arguments between Job and his friends about whether God is a jerk and if so, how much of one. It's much deeper theology than much of the Old Testament goes into.
I guess my favorite book of the Bible is Luke, though my favorite passage is the passage in John about the adulteress who didn't get stoned. On an interesting note, that passage is not native to the gospel of John, and some have theorized it was an account originally related by Luke. When both Gospels are looked at in context, it makes more sense in Luke because the message of Luke is largely of God's mercy and compassion while the theme of John is largely the deity of Jesus. |

Job is my absolute favorite book of the Bible.
When I read it, I imagine Job being very dramatic with his friends, almost tearing up while he's pleading, trying to make them understand that he did nothing wrong, and their accusations that God is punishing him for wrongdoing is inaccurate. Then I imagine his friends acting like interrogators, basically saying "look, we know you did something wrong Job, just admit it and you'll be alright!" But Job will have none of it. Also, it amazes me at God's relationship with Satan at the beginning of that book. It's really something interesting to study, to see that Satan answers to God, and that they have dialogue like that. |

Job is growing on me too. I love how much God spoke to Job. It tells me alot about God our Father. The part that still amazes me was how all of this was to show Jobs love for God and to glorify God. Also that God does what pleases him but is also faithfull. It is still a study for me. I believe ther is alot to learn from this book. Thanks for your take on this book carrier. That is an interesting point about satan. God bless, pickles
