So today at a fastfood place I asked for a cup for water, I filled it up with sprite, drank it, than got some water in this little 4 oz cup.
So is this stealing? And what if I put a quarter, or 50 cents on the counter before I left, is it still stealing?
What if I already knew I was going to get the sprite when I asked for a cup for water, is that lieng?

I thought at first it might be a sin, but then I thought of that simpsons episode where Marge eats two grapes in a grocery store, Lisa guilts her into asking the cashier to charge her for it so she wouldn't go to hell.
The cashier embarrasses her by getting a price check on 'two grapes'

So is this stealing?

We don't even need to get into the legal issue of whether or not it's theft.

If it made you feel guilty enough to start a whole post about it... you probably shouldn't have done it.

"Go thou and drink sprite no more"

yes its stealing but God is able to forgive sinners and if you are truly born again He will help you overcome the temptation to do it again by placing in you a NEW heart.

<is this a serious question or is this a troll thread?

I'm going to answer it as if its a serious question and hope my initial thoughts are wrong. they normally are...>

You would do better reading the Bible for moral and spiritual advice then meditating on episodes of the Simpsons.

If you want a Sprite, then order one, don't ask for a cup for just water. Its both lying and stealing. That is just basic ethics.

As for the grapes. donate at least a dollar to whatever charity that store supports and it would be covered. then Repent of stealing and don't do it again.

i didnt want a cup of sprite though, i just wanted a taste, but with that logic if i had put 25-50 cents on the counter it would no longer be stealing?

in theory you stole the sprite before you paid for it. And your payment may or may not have been acceptable to the restuarant. This is all semantics though.

4 oz is a "sip"?

the logic is its still a sin, but if you didn't know at the time it was a sin (didn't recognize it as stealing) then when you are convicted that it was Stealing, then you could repent, try and make right/amends (by giving them money) and ask God for forgiveness, which He gives you.

that doesn't mean you should go again into the resturaunt and steal some more Sprite. it just means you have been forgiven and made amends. Repeating your mistake/sin shows that you haven't really repented of sinning or had a true change of heart, just that you are afraid of the consequences.

cuz I don't think they want you to give them back the Sprite.....

actually the price from the beverages mostly comes from the cost for the cups, straw, lids, etc. The actual drink itself is very cheap. Like $.05 of product to fill a 20 oz. cup.

Exactly what I tell my co workers...they make fun of me Cuz I pay 2$ for a drink and they get it free. but when they get caught their all red in the face and try to leave the store all quickly. I always put them on blast...I talk loud and question what's in their cup... ahhh good times. But seriously its stealing.

it will depend on who is working.

one time, I asked for a cup of water and the worker handed me a cup saying "you don't have to get water, I don't mind."

However, I minded so I just got water.

other times there will be people who are strictly by the book and will tell you they can only sell you what is on the menu.

then if you ask the owner of a small store, they might say, ok fifty cents is fine and fill the drink for you.

I don't really know why people buy drinks anyway. you could go to the grocery store and buy a 2 litter bottle for the same price as a small cup from any resturaunt. then transfer the cups to bottles and seal them to keep the fizz and you'd save some money.

I can charge $1,000 for one ounce, and no one will buy it. They charge what the market will bear. You could have gone to the grocery store and gotten some, but it wasn't convenient. They have rent, wages, liability insurance and many other costs to cover. Don't try to justify taking the Sprite with the fact that it costs more.

you are no less guilty of sin than a serial killer

It's stealing unless you paid for it.
