Most of you are going to think this is totally off the wall, but let me put it out there. First, gematria-wise, Gog is 6 if you don't write the Hebrew o and 12 if you do. M-Gog means "that which causes to be gog. The Hebrew word Gog means "roof", and these names are always linked with names that answer to Russia, like Meshech=Moscow.
Now grant me that it is true that the sun retrograded 40 minutes on Hezekiah's sundial. (2Kings 20:9) Every sundial and astronomical observation from before 720BC is off by 40 minutes, and our science cannot explain why. Also grant me that this happened because the continents moved around on that date.
If we look elsewhere besides the Bible, we have some evidence that America used to be at the north pole, next to Russia. For instance, those ice sheets that we have evidence of in the north, the absence of inland archeology between 3200BC and about 300BC, the mention in the Mayan Bible about the moon returning before the sun (spring in the Arctic circle). There is also, I am told, but I do not know if can trust the source, that a Buddhist document places the North Pole in what is now Kansas at one time.
Suppose the N-S American land mass shifted 40 degrees of latitude south at the same time and the land mass of Europe/Asia/Africa rotated 10 degrees in Israel, and this happened in 720. Suppose also Ezekiel knew the earth is round, and had roughly the same view of the planet as we do, with north at the "top". (This is not impossible. Whatever you were told in school, the Greeks knew the earth is round, as did the Romans. Adn the Phoenecians sailed everywhere, and left a lot of evidence, even into Kansas.)
Let's take the words as they stand. America would have been called (in 730BC) the "roof" of the planet. The cause of its being there, would have been the continental movements during the Flood. Magog is thus the sin of the nephalim, that which caused it to become the roof of the planet. Since the word itself is 6 or 12, it matches the imperfections used later in Revelation for 666. On the theory I am posting, Ezekiel and contemporaries would have known of the recent movement of Gog (200 years ago for them), and would have developed a legend about it being in progress to becoming once again a sign of evil, now capable of being repopulated, having sailed south and started to melt.
With this in mind, read Ezek. 38 again. The chief prince (the word also means exaltation) of Meshech (mean desire to possess) and Tubal (sign of the flood - Mubal is the flood). It is simply a prophecy that America and other nations of this continent will come against Israel also.
And of course, the reason we lost the meaning, is that our geologists refuse to believe continents moved like that.
