Okay I posted this on another thread also and was wondering if I could get your ideas on some verses.
--
Just curious bro what are your beliefs on these following verses?

Isaiah 42:8
I am the LORD, that is My name; And My glory I will not give to another, Nor My praise to carved images.

John 17:5
And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.

What was Jesus talking about man? God doesn't share His glory.. Jesus couldn't have been another God but could He have been the same God?

Isaiah 44:8
Do not fear, nor be afraid;
Have I not told you from that time, and declared it?
You are My witnesses.
Is there a God besides Me?
Indeed there is no other Rock;

I know not one.’”

Just curious what you think about that, also..

Isaiah 44:6
Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel, And his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts: ‘ I am the First and I am the Last; Besides Me there is no God

Also the King of Israel does that go with Jesus being the King of the Jews or is that just irrelevant? (Just curious, trying to see if there is a connection between the two.)

I posted Isaiah 44:6 because in Revelation... Well....
Revelation 1
17 And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me,“Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last.
18 I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.

Those are the words of Jesus saying HE is the First and the Last.

What do you make of all those verses above?

Excellent replys. I know my thoughts on why we have the Torah, but I enjoy reading the thoughts of other people. To Ryan, were you asking if I was from New Zealand? If so, no, but I am going to visit there fairly soon.

First of all, look at what Paul said in Second Timothy 3:16-17. All Scripture is breathed by Elohim and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for setting straight, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of Elohim might be fitted, equipped for every good work.

What Scripture was he referring to? Would it have been his letters? Would it have been What Peter wrote? What about John, the beloved disciple? No. What he was referring to specifically was what we call the Old Testament. By saying this, I am not saying that the New Testament is wrong, just to be clear.

The Law is not the way to Heaven, of course. The Way is Yeshua. But, can you honestly say that by following what God has commanded that it will not draw us nearer to him? Will it not help us to be all that He created us to be?

What is at the heart of all of the Law in the Torah? Honor God, and love other people. What did Yeshua say were the two greatest commandments?

In following the Law, we not only honor God and love other people, but we also help ourselves in the process. Since 1985, a link between cirrhosis of the liver and pork consumption has been known. Is pork not one of the foods that we were told we should not eat?

Before someone tries to counter that with Peter's vision from Acts 10, I would like to point out that the meaning of the vision is in the same chapter. It is not about food, it is about men. Acts 10:28 And he said to them, “You know that a Yehuḏite man is not allowed to associate with, or go to one of another race. But Elohim has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean."

Now, by no means am I saying that you follow the Law to be saved. I am saying, that it is good to follow the Law BECAUSE we are saved by Christ. What better way to honor and respect Him than to live as He lived?

But Elohim has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean."

While the meaning of Peter's vision is about people, Peter was indeed told by God to eat unclean animals. Now God wouldn't say that if it was wrong to eat unclean animals because God doesn't go against His own laws. And in the vision God declared the animals to be clean. So while it does mean Peter shouldn't consider gentiles unclean, it also revoked any command from God that unclean animals were prohibited.

That's why when we come to Romans 14 Paul said:

14As one who is in the Lord Jesus, I am fully convinced that no foodb is unclean in itself.

In the next verse he says don't judge anyone whether they do or don't eat. So any Jews in here shouldn't be putting their opinions or laws onto us who are from non-Jewish backgrounds.

And Peter was living like a gentile for a time and so I'm pretty sure he would have eaten unclean animals if he was associating with gentiles.

While there is a possibility that I am part Jew by blood (I am unsure about this), I do not come from Jewish backgrounds myself. I am just following what I read in God's Word. This does not come from any religious background. If I have any religious background, it is probably Southern Baptist.

I don't judge anyone for what they do or do not eat myself. I never said that I do.

The vision was trying to show the Truth in a way that Peter would understand. If there were any changes in the prohibition, it would have been well known by that point in time. If, as you say, the animals did become clean to eat, why was this not mentioned by Yeshua?

I'm not Jewish either.

Frankly, I don't see what being Jewish has to do with it.

People always want to speak of these things as "Jewish law" because it makes it easier for them to justify ignoring them. But in all reality, it is simply Biblical law, not Jewish law.

Nowhere in the story of Peter's vision does ANYONE interpret the vision as dealing with foods. In fact, when it comes to pork, it's not even a matter of clean vs unclean food. Beef can be kosher vs unkosker,depending on whether it's killed in a biblical (read: humane) manner, whether it's mixed with dairy products, and so on.

But when it comes to pork, biblically speaking, it's simply not food at all. At least, it's not people food. As with everything, if people don't choose to follow G-d's Word, that IS between that person and G-d, but we are not told anywhere that Peter casually ate pork, when it suited him or the occasion.

Having abstained for some years now, I find it exceedingly unlikely, myself. You see, pork is something that the body has to build up a tolerance for, in order for it not to make us sick. I don't go nuts with the dietary laws, as the ultra-orthodox do. As I read in a Jewish restaurant review once "I think the goyim know to wash the bugs out of the lettuce, without a Rabbi standing over their shoulder telling them to do so."

But it still doesn't take much at all, if you're not accustomed to it. Even minute traces of it keep me from eating at places like Cracker Barrel or Long John Silver's, simply because it makes me physically sick.

I can't even IMAGINE going through 2 days of diarrhea kn the time before indoor plumbing OR toilet paper were invented. No offense, but it's just silly to think that anyone would do so voluntarily, just to fit in.

It was indicated by Christ to his disciples as early as Mark 7 verses 14 to 19. Later revealed to Peter and Paul in their revelations, especially the angelic declaration to Peter not to call anything unclean which God calls unclean - and yes this included animals as well otherwise God would be going against his own laws or a liar. And every gentile or Jewish convert who knew they were free to eat whatever they liked as they were not subject to the food laws of the Law of Moses for three reasons: a) they weren't Jewish (if gentile) , and b) they were saved by grace through faith, and c) they were never instructed to only eat certain animals in the council of Jerusalem in Acts 15. In fact the instruction in Acts 15 about not eating meat with blood in it or strangled animals comes from Genesis not the Torah as alleged by some who claim that the instructions to the Gentiles was trying to get them to follow Torah!! Wrong!. Originally in Genesis 9 God said that humans could eat any animal:

3Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.

The food laws in the old testament were given primarily to the Israelites as they were to be a holy and separated people unto God. We see though in Deuteronomy 14 they were allowed to give these things to foreigners and aliens who the laws don't apply to.

So from God's point of view He doesn't care if you eat pork or not. It's up to you.

but we are not told anywhere that Peter casually ate pork, when it suited him or the occasion.
Well if he wasn't used to the taste i'm sure he would stick to his customs, but hey, the bible says he lived like a gentile, and that means he lived like a gentile.

So when Peter entered a gentile home he probably ate whatever was set before him (as Jesus instructed them to do in their travels).

Well it's good to understand the difference between Jew and Gentile as per the biblical usage and what that means regarding the old testament. Everything needs to be interpreted in context. And no, gentiles don't have to be circumcised either! They are predominantly Jewish law and no Jew would tell you that the Law of Moses applied to everyone would they?

I'm gonna try to do this in stages....

Okay, as I'm reading through Isaiah 42, and really back into chapter 41, as well, it's clear that we're talking about idols here. The prophet is challenging these false idols, and the fortunetellers, somewhat after the manner of Elijah or Moses., saying "you are less than nothing" and thus are unable to do anything of value.

There is a literary device in scripture, and scholars have a term for it, but I'm sorry to say it escapes me at the moment. Anyway, at various times, we see that scripture will say, basicallly, the same thing, repeated, usually for poetic effect, and to re-emphasis the point.

This seems to be the case is Isaiah 42:8

I am Ad-nai; that is My Name (notice the repetition of the same concept)
I yield my glory to no one else,
nor my praise to any idol. (and again we find the same concept repeated)

Certainly He doesn't share His glory or praise with those who seek to usurp Him. But when we're talking about His people, it seems to be a different matter.

My decree is- You are elohim,
sons of the Most High, all of you.
Nevertheless, you will die like mortals,
like any prince, you will fall.

This "elohim" is the same word used the first time the Bible refers to G-d at all, in Genesis 1:1

B'resheet bara Elohim et haShamayim ve'et ha'aretz.

Also, Exodus 7:1 says that Moses is like a G-d unto Pharoah.

So clearly, He WILL allow His people to be glorified for His Name's sake. For they are not usurping His glory, but rather humbling themselves, and giving all the glory and credit TO G-d.

Dosen't the Word of God tell us that the scriptures were given that the child of God might be comletely furnish with everything they need to understand God'splan for the ages and where we as individuals fit into that plain and what our purpose is? The Torah is the foundation for the history of everything and reveals the Lord Jesus Christ to the worl! To the Jew, Gentile and the Church of God!

Peace be to you
God does not change he is always the same;
God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

God's way has always bin Love God with all your heart,Love your nieghber like you love yourself,honor thi father and thi mother,stay away from idols follow these and do yee well

In the beginning the men of God had faith as we have now threw Jesus Christ;
For by it the elders obtained a good report.
Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

I will you remind you this is evidence of our promise;Jesus;
Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

At this time Moses comes into the piture and the torah;there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush.When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold it, the voice of the LORD came unto him,This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear.
This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us:

To whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,Saying unto Aaron, Make us gods to go before us: for as for this Moses, which brought us out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.
And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice unto the idol,(commiting adultry) and rejoiced in the works of their own hands.Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness?

Sin and lack of faith/Love dissobediance;brought the commandments;

Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.

Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.

God made isreal walk 40 years in the desert to see if they could come to way.

ack 7( http://www.kingjamesbible.com/B44C007.htm) is very good to read the historey or isreal

The Torah is the first five books of Scripture that would take volumes to write about why G-d gave us the first five Books. However most commonly when we say Torah we are simply referring to the Law. Rabbinic Jewish thinking has declared that there are two Torahs: written and oral. Moshe wrote this Torah as he received it from God Himself on Mount Sinai. On the other hand, the oral Torah, so the rabbis claim, was also received by Moshe from God on Mount Sinai. However, instead of this Torah being passed on in writing, it was passed down through the centuries orally, by word of mouth. The rabbis’ claim this material was from God at Mount Sinai, for them it carries almost as much authoritative weight as the written Chumash. For us it does not. The oral law, laws of tradition, is what Yashua rejected in the Pharisees, not His written Torah (Scripture).

"The Law of the LORD is perfect, converting [quieting] the soul. . .making wise the simple. . . rejoicing the heart. . .enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. (Psalm 19:7-9). We tend to forget that we, in the final analysis, do not know right from wrong. Most try to judge by the conscience, but it is many times badly warped. What is the touchstone, the criterion and true standard by which life on this planet is to be lived, measured and governed? Can man’s ever-changing ideas compare to God’s wise and Holy Law? Only the One who created the universe (and us) can rightly judge between good and evil. And He has done this in His wonderful Law. The Apostle Paul wrote, "I had not known sin [transgression] but by the law". And "By the law is the knowledge of sin" (Romans 7:7; and 3:20).
There are 613 Laws in the Written Torah given by G-d that can be broken down in into the following subheadings:

Why did God give us the Torah?

What then was the purpose of the law? It was added because of transgression, until the seed to whom the promise referred had come. Gal3:19

Yeah... I don't do that with my days. Many of the laws overlap each other, so they are easy to keep. Many of the laws don't apply to every day life. Some of the laws don't apply to you at all.

Regardless of the laws, do you lead a life of sin? I am sure you do not. I am sure you make an effort to lead a moral life pleasing to God. How is following the law any different? All it means is that we have more to be careful of than simply doing what is moral. I live under grace just like you. I mess up just like you. We are both sinners saved by grace. Grace does not mean you get to do whatever you want. Grace means that when you mess up, you will be forgiven. You should still strive to do what is right, though.

Oh I am soooo grateful for His grace too!! We don’t go to hell for not keeping the Law the only thing that sends people to hell is the rejection of Yashua. We can not earn our salvation by keeping the Law, salvation comes by calling upon Yeasua, believing in our hearts that He died on the cross and rose from the grave…. Salvation is by Him and through Him alone. The point of knowing the law and studying it is we know what G-d says about going to a psychic, reading the horoscope, the standard that G-d has in business practices and lending money, or borrowing money, when we go to the poles and cast our vote what is G-d’s standard of whom we should put in office, or simply what does loving people look like and so on….. The Law is unto righteousness, it gives me an understanding what righteousness is in G-d’s eyes and what is not. To sin is to miss the mark the Law is the standard of what the mark is. I can’t keep the law but I know I’m growing in His grace and mercy because I’m actually doing a little more of what the Law says I should do and don’t do a little more often some of the things the Law says I shouldn’t do. G-d was sooo merciful to us and gave us His Law so we can actually know what pleases Him and what doesn’t.

I guess it is different because it isn't a focus of my life. There were times when God was dealing with problems in my life that I spent some effort and attention on determining what is right and wrong, but overall my life has been spent in other directions. I don't wake up and think, well today I will follow these rules. And God is quick, but gentle to point things out. In some ways it is worse, because it grieves me to fail my Lord, but there is no condemnation lingering over me. I don't know if I can take much credit for the present work of righteous in my life as it is almost entirely His work of transformation.

Very sad day when someone doesn't believe the Messiah fulfilled the WHOLE LAW.Meaning He only did some of the work - we have to finish it.

Nope I think I'll believe;

John 19:30
So when Yeshua had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished! ” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.

These dont seem that hard to me,Would you all follow them if Jesus asked you to?

Jesus left us commandment;
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
Deut 6:5, 10:12 Mark 12:30 Luke 10:27
This is the first and great commandment.And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Rom;
Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
John;Jesus
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
