Hey brothers and sisters. I would like to start a Bible study to take daily scripture and meditate on it a bit. Hopefully it can help me in faith and anyone else that wishes to join. Today I'll start with Luke 9:57-62.

57 Now it happened as they journeyed on the road, that someone said to Him, “Lord, I will follow You wherever You go.”
58 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”
59 Then He said to another, “Follow Me.”
But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.”
60 Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and preach the kingdom of God.”
61 And another also said, “Lord, I will follow You, but let me first go and bid them farewell who are at my house.”
62 But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”

This is a powerful passage, which I think has a twofold message. The first is the Lord telling us of his own sacrifices that he makes for us. It plays a role in helping his followers understand that we toomust make some sacrifices in order to follow him. But we need not fear, since the Lord goes before us.

May the Lord give us all the strength and courage to make sacrifices that will purify us as his followers. Amen.

Yes amen that is great!!

I'd like to make a comment on one of the verses..

Luke 9:58 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”

A lot of people look at that verse and say that Jesus was poor and homeless. I guess that is debatable but does it have a deeper meaning? Let's look into it.

Where do birds sleep? Have you ever seen a bird sleeping in a nest? What do birds build nests for? To lay eggs. To reproduce.

What do foxes create dens for? To give birth right?

So birds makes nests in order to reproduce -
foxes make holes in order to reproduce-

“Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”

So o what is Jesus talking about here? Was He was talking about reproducing also? (Not suggesting children here..A spiritual thing)

Let's take a look at some other verses and see if they go with this.

Ephesians 4
15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head,
even Christ:
16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint
supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

Could Jesus of been saying... "I have no body to put this head on"

Colossians 1:18
And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

That is of course.....Not until ater the Cross
not until after the Holy Spirit came
not until after He planted Himself as a Seed into the ground

Could that of been it?..
I think it lines up with the context. Just an idea what do you guys think?

I think the message is simple. The world was not made for Jesus, he is for us in the world. That if we want to be with him. We must give up the world to be one with him. God bless, pickles

Just maybe it says demons and evil spirits have homes in the hearts of man but the Lord has no place to lay His head.

well since you ask what I think . I think you have read too much into the verse I think the key words here are that the son of man hath nowhere to lay His head, Jesus would not be looking for a place to lay His head so that He could reproduce, but simply for a place to rest, and yeah I have seen birds sleep in their nests while sitting on their eggs. and foxes do stay in holes and also sleep in them. keep digging I think it simply says that if we follow Jesus the way may not be easy and It is like a warning for those who take up the cross and follow Him

This has always been a hard saying for me. I have a tendency to 'look back' and second guess myself anytime I start a task, wondering if it's going to be too hard or if I've given up too much.

I hear you brother. Sometimes it may be difficult to leave the past in the past. The Lord is our Shepherd, may he give u the strength to make decisions for him to be humbly confident in.
