Right now I believe they are, even if the video game does not have violence. I believe they can be idolatry and I have been convicted from the Holy Spirit to stay away from them because I need to walk in the Spirit.

any thoughts?

This is a subject debated among many people, personally i do not see them as a sin as long as they don't run your life( trust me been there done that)

I don't see anything wrong with them as long as they are clean ones :)

I want to show the world the love You gave for me
I'm longing for the world to know the glory of the King

I want to live like that
And give it all I have
So that everything I say and do
Points to You

If love is who I am
Then this is where I'll stand
Recklessly abandoned
Never holding back

I want to live like that

I can see where video games can become addictive ( Bondage). To the point that it consumes all your time and begin to neglect other things. I mean some people are consumed by this just as much as alcohol or drugs. But, playing a game or two every now and then, especially with friends or family, I see no harm in it.

It all depends on the person. Someone as me, I enjoy video games really a lot, it stimulates more my imagination, sometimes helping me draw better or even write. The main problem is, if you have been addicted to them once, it's best you do not spend your time on games as much. Something like this happened to me few months ago (already a christian) and I spent three days playing the same game and I put God aside. Of course I felt bad because it was wrong, so all I do is play a bit, but limit myself most of the times.

They're not sinful if you control them.

In the light of Christ's death for us,they seem to be sort of a cheap 'thank you'.

There is the important part. If you have been told by God to avoid something, its for your own personal development, its not a blanket ban or requirement for everyone else.

An alcoholic will have to avoid drinking even a drop of alcohol, but its not a sin or forbidden for anyone else to drink it.

I do play video games for no more than an hour a week just so I can relax, I think anything out of moderation can become idols.

Any game can be a sin if we let it take away from our responsibilities to God first (prayer, bible reading and study, Church life, etc.) and to family (providing for our family's spiritual and physical needs). That being said, God can place His people in particular places, including video games, to stand as a witness and guiding light to the truth.

Do you allow the Spirit to shine through in everything you do?

Occasionaly, I have played the video game "Grand Theft Auto". As I play the game, it's obvious to me, that the expierence is void of God,,, unless you consider "sin" to be in the realm of God, somehow.

I don't see playing those games as helpful. I don't see them as uplifting, that's for sure!

Is stealing a car on grand theft auto really stealing? I doubt it. But,, as I right this post, I can see no good reason to play those video games. None. I imagine I can make some up,,,,,such as,,,,,,,playing the grand theft auto helps me to release tension and therefore I do better in the real world.....

I don't see video games any worse than watching,,,,some vampire movie "Twilight",, or "Hunger Games"... Both are Godless. We should be careful what we put in our minds... But,, before I became a Christian, my mind was already full of all sorts of vile thoughts. Sometimes it still is,, and I have to be aware, lest I go down the wrong road and allow my imagination to wonder. That's why we are to "guard our hearts with all diligence".

Phil 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Exercising godly discernment in these grey areas is indispensable. We are influenced by what we watch on T.V. and computer, the games we play, the music we listen to, the books we read, etc., so we should ensure that they don't sabotage our walk with God.

Yes ! I smile when ive found out that many are actually in-favor of playing video games and they call themselves " christians". True christian doesn't play video games. True Christian doesn't watch demonic stuffs from the hollywood. Not even listening to defiled secular music out there. And yet these folks kept justifying their offense. A christian loves the things of God, not the things of this World.

What the Bible says about these folks?
"They are of the world:therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them".(1John 4:5)

And the Bible added !
"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world, If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in Him"(1John 2:15)

And then,
"For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap CORRUPTION" ( Gal.6:8)

I quit playing Video Games, I remember it used to steal a lot of time for me, that I could have spent , learning and growing in the Lord. I think many video games affect our mind and if you are feeling conviction you better stop playing them.

I assume then that you don't read newspapers either, or any kind of books?

I think they are just like the internet, tv, cars, guns, etc.
An amplifier for the condition of the user's heart.
You can do good things with them, but mostly it's bad things that are being done.
It's not because they are inherently bad, it's because the user is inherently bad and has increasingly more powerful tools at his disposal.
Yet another accelerating sign that things will inevitably go "pop"

Video games aren't sinful unless they have questionable content. The person's heart is sinful. Seriously people, God wants us to enjoy our lives. Take a chill pill.
