Jesus said about Christians "Everyone will hate you because of me" (Matthew 10:22)
No other group in history has had even close to as great a positive humanitarian effect as Christians. We go to other countries and risk our lives to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and heal the sick. Even as short-term missionaries we endure heat and lack of proper amenities and go without sufficient food for the sake of others, all in the name of Jesus. All of the large humanitarian organizations (Red Cross, the Peace Core, etc) were founded and grown by Christians and are still most frequented by Christians. The Buddhists and the Muslims and the atheists aren't the ones going out there. They are the ones complaining that things aren't right, but they aren't going out there. Yet the world still hates US. They call US hypocrites, and they refer to US as cultists, brainwashers, ignorant, and stupid.
In the U.S. if you practice your religion, you're devout. Unless you're a Christian; then you're a racist and a sheep and naive. If you tell people about your religion, you're cultured. Unless you're a Christian; then you're impeding other people's constitutional rights. If you practice your radical lifestyle, you're a true American and people fight for you. Unless you live a Godly lifestyle; then you need to start separating church and state.
Christians aren't against gay marriage because they don't want people to be happy; they are against it because they love people, and don't want to see this country go the way of Sodom and Gomorrah. The more we let sin creep into our accepted culture, the closer we come to destruction. We know that it's in everyone's best interest to protect traditional marriage, to pray in schools, etc.
I got into a conversation with an atheist about this today. He said that Christians are the downfall of society. I asked him how he could say that, when Christians are out there saving lives. He said that if atheists had the funds and stuff, they probably would too. Yeah, real great out. "If". He countered what is real with something hypothetical.
The enemy is crafty and deceiving. This guy thought that his hypothetical argument was actually valid. The enemy will get people to hate Christians for illogical reasons, while being tolerant and accepting of drug abusers and racists and rapists and mass murderers. He got them to believe that killing babies is okay.
If the world hates you; you may be on the right track. Logically, without bias, an outsider would look at the Christian faith and think that they should be regarded as the heroes of this world. But Jesus said that they would hate us, and He is never wrong. The world doesn't realize that by hating us, they are just confirming what Jesus predicted. They are confirming Jesus' divinity.
