I'm just wondering what other people since those are usually the types of video games I tend to play. I'm just curious what other people think. As for me, I don't think it's ever affected my faith. I mean, I've been playing video games since I was like 5 or 6 and they've never effect my faith, Actually I even started playing games like before I was A Christian. But I'm still growing as a Christian pretty fast, not as fast I'd like it too, but I'm still growing.

Gah, I hate making typoes in the main title of the topic...

I once spoke to a satanist in the chat room. The brief encounter with this woman effected me for days after. I think that when we focus on evil it will definitely effect us. We can say what we want to try to justify the things we do (for me this was drinking alcohol... not to excess, just socially... see, listen to me justify it) You may not think its effecting your faith but the very post posing the question causes me to think that perhaps the Holy Spirit is giving you a nudge about what you are viewing. Is there an alternative to this? Like another game? Anyway you make your choises in your own life and I pray God gives you discernment in this. Blessings to you and praying that you feel uplifted cause you seem so sad.

Nearly anything can be used for evil--even the Bible has been used by evil men to justify evil actions. That does not make its normal use evil.

Actually the main thing that started this is that I started to find that my friends have started to change from what they used to be like since they were growing as Christians really a lot faster than I am. And there interests started to change. So that was bugging me, since I'm in between anxiety meds right now. Getting off one and starting anther(The new is also supposed to help my depression, and maybe even my social skills too.). But because of that my mind started to run wild since I my old med is only on half strength at the time, and the I haven't been taking the new long enough to have a real effect on me. Anyway, my mind made me thing that God would eventually make me get rid of all my games. After battling that fear for a while. and now that I'm the new med is taking more of an effect. My mind is getting more reasonable so now I'm just worried about this now. Long story short, it wasn't the holy spirit it was my ocd. :p

Anyway I get this weird feeling when something has a chance of effecting my faith. I'd guess it's some sorta form of discernment since it only goes off when a few times. Like when I found a girl I knew was a wiccan. When I was this documentary thing about the Crystal Skulls and they were showing some sorta satanic or pagan ritual. You know stuff like that. But it's never gone off when I've been playing video games like this. Probably because when I play video games like I don't usually focus on the magic since to me it's just either sprites, 3D models, or a particle system that makes up the magic on the TV screen I don't focus on it. The demons usually are bad guys in the games. The other gods are usually the enemies or sometimes they help you. But once again I don't' really focus in it.

BTW, I can honestly say that I wouldn't that afraid if Jesus walked on me if I was playing those kind of games.

Just because I bludgeon hookers to death in a video game doesn't mean I'll do it in real life... Well, there was that one time... But they assure me, that stays in Vegas... ;)

We wouldn't begin to tolerate in video games many of the things the Bible mentions, but that doesn't make reading it evil. Drunken incest, forced genital mutilation, dedication of children to Molech, etc. - if the mere mention of evil is enough to indict a text, the case is clear. (I think most people would agree, however, that it's not.)

The real question for me is not so much about the content as the process. Video games can be addictive, overstimulating, dissipating wastes of time. Even Solitaire can strain virtue if the player becomes too absorbed or impatient. The evil might not be that there's a demon on the screen, but that for one more evening the game-playing husband has avoided helping his wife with the chores.

The world will call evil good and good evil. Be careful. God bless you. My 3 yr old granddaughter wanted to play games on my computer. I found one one and thought how cute. It had a cute ginger bread girl cookie. We started to play then it turned out to be throwing knives at the cookie. The cookie screamed in pain and started crying. My granddaughter tells me right away it's not real and laughs her little head off as it was all a joke. That affected me more than it did her. I told her this is not a good game and I turned it. Brain washing to make pain and hurting ok is wrong.

Yeah, that's just it. It's a game, it's not real.

its a game designed to desensitize young children... so no it is not "JUST" a game. If it is inflicting violence and there is reaction to the violence it is not just a game, especially when marketed to very young players... honestly it desensitizes them to violence and its "no big deal" to see gory things that totally freak me out because i grew up in the 60's & 70's where Jaws was an extreme horror flick. Good choice to not allow her the game!!! pajama sam is a good game for little ones.

I'd honestly be more concerned if a kid was acting out the violence he sees from a video game. Then just seeing violence from a video game, but then again. I'm not a dad. lol

Here's what the Word of God says about the things your mind should be dwelling on:

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." Philippians 4:8

"Abstain from all appearance of evil." 1 Thessalonians 5:22

I hope I answered your question and that you would take this to prayer and let the Holy Spirit convict you of anything you need convicting of. Search the Scriptures and you will see magic, demons, other gods, etc...are wicked in the sight of God. Regards, rk

"Abstain from all appearance of evil is what you need to ask yourself before playing these games. If God convicts you for it, then you have to answer his call. Tha'ts him letting you know that it's wrong. Now if you think it's wrong; then I would stay away."

God's never convicted me about anything like video games. Which means it might just my ocd making a big deal out of this.

I would listen to roarings post as you are currently in such turmoil over not growing closer to God. Not judging you but I know your heart is truly seeking the Lord and I think you are willingly allowing things into your life that grieve the spirit and blaming your illness instead of seeing it for what it is. There were harlots in the Bible too, does this mean we should view pornography? no. Hang out with demons even if they are just portrayed in your video games as bad guys or Hang out in the word of God, your call, your choice, your free will. I do think there are other games out there that can equally entertain you without the spiritual impact that your current games have. You SAY you want to grow closer to God, then DO what is necessary to grow closer. Listen to the instruction of the wise in here for I have seen many many posts that give you excellent advise & afterwards you always choose to defend the status quo. This is ok if you want your spiritual walk to remain status quo... if you want to press in to God... well GET ON WITH IT. get pressing in to the Word of God & spend time in prayer & listening. try to spend 5 minutes listening while you seek God in Prayer... quietly listening. Please dont be upset by this post, for I give it in Love, how i would speak to my son if he were asking these questions. Please listen & reflect, dont react in defense. God Bless you & I pray you will soon be ready for your spiritual gifting you so desire.

I"ve been thinking and praying about this and I've been finding it's either OCD, or I'm just being attacked. Since me questioning this has been affecting my faith a lot more(IN A BAD WAY) than playing video games ever has.

I sincerely hope you dont feel attacked by me in any way cause that was definitely not my intent. My intent was to give you what i felt is the best advise based on your postings in various threads where you are suffering in so many ways. I pray for our Heavenly Father to wrap his arms around you and give you comfort.
