[SUP]3 [/SUP]And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,
[SUP]4 [/SUP]They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
[SUP]5 [/SUP]Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
[SUP]6 [/SUP]This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
[SUP]7 [/SUP]So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

[SUP]3 [/SUP]The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group [SUP]4 [/SUP]and said to Jesus, ‘Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. [SUP]5 [/SUP]In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?’ [SUP]6 [/SUP]They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.
But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. [SUP]7 [/SUP]When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, ‘Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.’ [SUP]8 [/SUP]Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.
[SUP]9 [/SUP]At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. [SUP]10 [/SUP]Jesus straightened up and asked her, ‘Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?’

‘Then neither do I condemn you,’ Jesus declared. ‘Go now and leave your life of sin.’

3 This was a common thing of the day. During Roman rule over Israel they were not allowed to carry out death punishments without asking Rome which is why Jesus' trial took so long but, Rome did not view stoning as death punishment even though it was so, stoning became the major way of judgement by the priests.
4 Adultry is a woman sleeping with someone other than her husband. Veiwed often as a married woman sleeping with someone else but in the New Testament if a woman did not save herself for her husband it could be consider adultry as well, for instance Mary was accused of adultry against Joesph even before they were married.
5 The laws did not want sin to go unpunished and have sin dealt with in the proper ways. If the person who adultry commited against said he did not want her to be punished the woman would not be killed. With the story of Mary and Joseph, Joseph decided to break off the engagement before the angel told him the truth and he went and married her but, if he ahd broke it off she would not been held to the charge of adultry.
6 jesus often taught forgiveness but in this case it would have showed He did not believe in justice they wanted Him ethier to allow the stoning and ask Him where is His forgiveness or, have Him stop the stoning and ask Him about justice.
7 The only who can truly judge is the one without sin, this is Jesus, He will be the Judge and He will be just.
8 After having said what He did, He knew none would think that they could trow there stone.
9 The older ones left first, people thinking of all the sins they have committted and maybe how they were shown mercy. The older ones had more time to sin. Every one left but Jesus and this woman, the woman would not been able to leave until all those who accused her were gone and Jesus was without sin.
10 Our condemnation is in the Lord's hand with the Lord we will be spared but without Him we will face judgement.
11 When we come to Christ our sins are under the blood and we from then on a servants of the Lord instead of being slaves to our sins.
