Let's discuss, what have we learned from the life of king David? And his moral guidance by the hand of God? :)

He was the greatest song-writer in history. We are still singing 70 of his songs, translated into every language on earth, 3000 years after he died.

His name means to boil with passion.

The root refers to boiling with passion, and thus specifies the kind of love. There are two words in Hebrew, "beloved" and "bepassioned". The second is used in Song of Songs, which by the way, is written by David's son.

David was both sinner and saint, a shepherd boy and a great warrior but first and foremost his life was devoted to God. David did not have the same physical attributes as did King Saul but God is more concerned with a mans inner character rather than what he appears to be on the outside -- He knew that David was a man after his own heart. We can say the same is true about Christians that God is more concerned about our inner character rather than outward appearance. God bless!

1Samuel 13:14
"But now your kingdom shall not endure. The LORD has sought out for Himself a man after His own heart, and the LORD has appointed him as ruler over His people, because you have not kept what the LORD commanded you."

We know David wrote the Book of Psalms, so that should portray his character quite well if we read the Psalms. We also know that even though David committed adultery and murder, God said David was a man after His own heart. Hard to believe, eh? So what does this tell us about both David and God? It tells us that God looks at the heart of man, the intent of the heart of man, and the hidden things that no man can see. It tells us that David must have had a good heart, with the same "characteristics" as God. God loved the characteristics of David, as He perhaps saw himself in David, in order to say David was a man after His own heart. There was something special in David's heart to find favour in God's eyes. I pray that I would have "something" special in my heat that God loves too.
