1. Yes over thirty years ago. The Holy Spirit witnesses with my spirit.
2. Romans 10:9-10 believe on the Lord Jesus and confess yourself as a sinner to Him.
3. The moment I believed and asked Christ to save me and forgive all my sins.
4. There are many. The weight of sin was lifted when I was saved. The word of God is open to me as I study it. I have been strengthened and able to do many things for the Lord through the Holy Spirit.
5. A couple years after salvation I was baptized in water by immersion. I was baptized by the Holy Spirit the moment I received Christ as my Savior.

For the cause of Christ

(1) I am saved, and I know this because John 3:16 (New International Version, 2011) states, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” I believe in God; therefore, I know I am saved. Additionally, I have been saved since 1993, if I remember correctly.

(2) There is nothing one must do in way of works to be saved. As is stated in Romans 3:28, “For we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.” That being said, one must accept God’s free gift of grace, and this is done by believing (trusting) in Jesus.

(3)
I received the Holy Spirit upon my conversion to Christianity; yet, the Holy Spirit had convicted my heart prior to this moment. It was literally as though I had been touched by the finger of God.

(4)
To answer question #4, we will take a look at several scriptures. 1 John 4:1-3 states, “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.” While this verse makes perfect sense to the believing Christian, it is becoming increasingly evident there are more and more wolves in sheep’s clothing today than there have ever been on earth at one time than previously before – while this is due to large and increasing population, Christians cannot and should not believe every spirit who claims Jesus is God come flesh; there might just be wolves lying about what it is they truly believe. However, there are several ways to determine whether one has the spirit of truth or the spirit of deception dwelling within them. Jesus said, Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thorn-bushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.” Here we can see Jesus is referring to Fruit of the Spirit (Spiritual works, not works of the law). And spiritual fruit will bear either positive or negative results; this coincides also with Galatians 5:22-23, which states, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” So while there may be good evidence the individual Christian may have as to why they know they have personally received the Holy Spirit – it is not always so simple for another believer to make the same determination, but, often, it takes time for another person to observe the actions of another professing God’s Holy Spirit dwells within them, to confirm such a proclamation is genuine.

(5) I was baptized by the process of full-emersion, and I was sprinkled with water from the river Jordan, also. Truthfully, I do not think the exact procedure of water baptism has been laid out for us, although we know how John the Baptist baptized and how Jesus Himself was baptized – by complete water-emersion. Additionally, Jesus did command for us to be baptized and to baptize, “. . . in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matt. 28:19).

(6) While I have been baptized, agree that baptism is a Christian ordinance, and I am Baptist, it is my belief one does not have to be baptized in order to receive grace – at least I am unaware of Jesus saying an individual cannot receive grace unless they are baptized in water, nor have I found any other scripture which states that. Furthermore, there are instances in the Bible where people received the Holy Spirit prior to being baptized, and then there were people who did not receive the Holy Spirit until after their baptism. Lastly, I am aware my beliefs are going to upset quite a few individuals, and I might be deemed a heretic for making such a remark (May God forgive me). Yet, I will need any scripture at all that supports the notion baptism is required for one to receive grace. I will reiterate that I believe baptism is an ordinance given by Christ, but never did Christ say we must be baptized to receive grace. Remember, there are many ordinances that people do not follow or, at the very least, have violated. We do not say they cannot receive God’s free gift of grace.

P.S. I apologize about the post being over 150 words. I have a tendency to not want to neglect to discuss something pertaining to the topic being discussed. That being said, I usually forget many things I would like to say. LOL!;)

This is by no means complete, but some things that come to mind.

Q2) What must one do to be saved (if there is anything they must do)?

Romans 5:8

Romans 6:4

Revelation 1:18

John 3:16

Acts 2:38

Matthew 12:50

Exodus 3:6-14

John 1:14

Romans 5:11

I John 2:2

Mark 16:19; Hebrews 8:1

Zechariah 14:4

Acts 1:9-14

Isaiah 9:6-7

Luke 1:32-33

Revelation 20:4 Zechariah 14:9

Q3) When did you receive the Holy Spirit?

John 16:7-14; Acts 2

Matthew 3:13-15;

Romans 6:3-5;

Acts 2:37-39

Matthew 26:26-29; I Corinthians 10:16

I believe the Holy Spirit is always there guiding a believer to the Truth. I think this happens when you convert. and also, its written after baptism under water.

Q4) What is the evidence that you have received the Holy Spirit?

I'm not sure there is anything you can visibly see with your eyes. But its a guiding to the Truth of the matter.

This is by no means complete,

I'm not sure there is anything you can visibly see with your eyes. But its a guiding to the Truth of the matter.

like I said, not complete. There are some things. healing the sick, casting out of evil spirits .( Mark 16:17-18 ) and those that have The TRUTH.

At the time, there was the Gift of speaking in different languages the hearer can understand by way of the Holy Spirit , a example of this was in Acts 2: where all could understand the clear, message of God, with no need of an interpreter in their own language, even their own accents . But is not done today as it was in Acts 2,.

Mostly today, you have people trying to imitate what they think, it was. But they ignore what it actually was as its written.

And it will be used again just like in Acts 2 at the end times, when the antichrist is here in person...

If there is a person out there some where,in the world that has God's blessings to have the Holy Spirit speak through them, they are no doubt out there in some part of the world where communication is a must; doing God's will not their own.

nicene,i think it is very dangerous for you to say it is not necessary for one to be baptized in order to receive salvation.you mention that there were people who had received the holy spirit before they were baptized which is very true BUT PETER still made sure they were baptized in order to fulfill all righteousness.why didnt Peter skip the baptism for these individauls seeing as they had already received the holy spirit?(this is the question you need to ask yourself).Apostle PETER, having been given the keys to the Kingdom, commanded the JEWS, saying, “REPENT everyone of you and BE BAPTIZED in the NAME OF JESUS CHRIST for the remission of sins” (Acts 2:38) “and you shall receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit.”

ACTS 16:29-3329Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, 30And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?31And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. 32And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. 33And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway..MARK 16:16 states, “He that believeth and is baptized shall be SAVED; but he that believeth NOT shall be damned.”
[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]I Peter 3:21 also reads, “The like figure whereunto [even] baptism doth also now SAVE us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.”
The same FORMULA was used by Saint PAUL. Paul himself REBAPTIZED the disciples of John the Baptist (Acts 19:1-5) in this same manner, saying, “Have ye received the Holy Ghost SINCE you believed? They said, ‘We know not whether there be any Holy Ghost.’ Paul said, “How was you baptized?” They said,’ We’ve been baptized unto John.’ Then said Paul, “John verily baptized with baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him that should come after him, that is on CHRIST JESUS.” WHEN THEY HEARD THIS, they were baptized in the NAME of the LORD JESUS” .
PETER AND JOHN did the same to the SAMARITANS as well in Acts 10:48,” And he commanded them to be BAPTIZED in the NAME of the LORD JESUS
” .
The GENTILES who were in the house of Cornelius who first received the Gospel were also baptized in this same manner (Acts 10:46-48) , “For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnified God. Then answered PETER, “Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? AND HE COMMANDED them to be BAPTIZED in the NAME of the LORD JESUS” (NIV).
ALL true believers in the Bible, both Jews, Gentiles and Samaritans, were ALL baptized in the NAME of JESUS CHRIST
Jesus himself made sure he was baptized even when John the baptist responded with surprise that Jesus would surrender to what seemed an uneccessary ritual for him.If there was ever anyone that could have decided to skip water baptism it was Jesus because he was SINLESS but yet he allowed John to baptize him saying he must fulfill ALL RIGHTEOUSNESS.Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. 14But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? 15And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. 16And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
I think we all must remember that it was ONE word that was added to Gods word that caused the downfall of mankind. The serpent told eve"ye shall NOT surely die".eve believed this and look what happened as a result.so when we see case after case in scripture of Jesus himself then everyone that became a follower was baptized in his name by immersion in water then you come along and say it doesnt matter.Theres a problem with that friend.why would anybody who reads these scriptures take a chance on omitting baptism from their lives?

These are Very Good questions.
Q1: I am saved, everyday when I ask Jesus to forgive me and strengthen me in Him. I know that I am saved because I have God's Promise
Q2: "Ye must be born again." we are all born in sin are all spiritually dead, thus, by the blood sacrifice Jesus made we can be born again. we must repent and be baptized in Jesus' name.
Q3+4: I received about three weeks ago. the evidence was speaking in tongues. I also might add that it gave me great joy and peace to have the Holy Spirit enter His temple.
Q5: I was baptized in the only way to be baptized- immersed in water in Jesus' name.
Q6:n/a

Anyone can feel free to question me on this through my inbox.
God Bless.

1. Yes, 3-4 years ago, because I am now fully aware of the gospel and it's truths that follow by which is received through faith, accepting Him personally in my life.

2. Believe in the Lord Jesus, by having faith in Him, in His teachings, in His life, death, and resurrection. Not mere knowledge of His existence, but understanding and trusting Him for salvation and forgiveness of sins on the cross, and resurrected for my justification, who now sits at the right hand of God, one day to come back through hope.

3. Once saved.

4. A changed lifestyle, and trusting and obeying Him [because those who reject can't fully accept].

5. First by fire [Holy Spirit dwelling in me], then a second water baptism a year after I was saved because I was dedicated as a baby but at the time I didn't understand it till I got saved.

Marrion,

I believe one must be baptized by the Holy Spirit, certainly. However, I do not necessarily think it is required one is baptized in water to receive God's free gift of grace. Perhaps I did not clarify what it is I meant by 'baptism' in my initial post. Were you aware there are some Christians who believe water baptism occurs while you are in the womb? Just some food for thought. Anyway, I do appreciate your concern. Thank you, and God Bless!:)

P.S. Jesus commanded us to baptize in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. This does not necessarily call for one being fully submersed in water. While Christ did command we be baptized, it would make more sense to me He was referring to Spiritual Baptism, at least, I would think it would be more beneficial for one to be justified by the blood of Christ through the Spirit than by a few sprinkles of water on the head or even being fully submersed, for that matter.

I have quickly skimmed through the replies. Will come back later and read in detail. How encouraging it is to read all your replies! Thank you everyone for contributing! I praise God for the faith that I have found on this thread and site. Yes, some of us think differently from the others, and some of us may be ahead of others (only the Lord knows). Let's strive to understand each other and collectively give glory to God, not forgetting that we are united in Christ despite all our differences.

Keep posting guys, and thanks once again!
