I want to hear your thoughts about 1 corinthians 1:18

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

Thank you

1 Corinthians

[SUP]2:14 [/SUP]But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

It is by the power of God in which we are saved, meaning the whole work of God in general revelation (creation, humanity in time and space) and special revelation (Scriptures and work of Christ, the complete repository of redemptive revelation) which saves us. Those who reject that are foolish and heading for eternal death.

I like the "who are being saved" part as it speaks of a continual work and not just initial salvation.

How do you know it's not meant to mean a continual work until the Lord comes? Meaning people will be saved through-out human history.

[I don't disagree with you that we are to grow spiritual in Christ in our whole life time, just not sure the author is speaking of that here].

to put it in other words the message of the cross needs to be continually heard by the Christian too as it is his fountain of power in his walk, and a constant cleanser from our own self righteousness.

Most of the world will think you are stupid, foolish and illogical but those who are saved understand the message of the Cross and how it is the power of God.

people used to think that heavier than air planes was foolishness, until they saw it work.

Here is some commentary .

I Corinthians 1:18 "For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us that are saved it is the power of God."

Paul is reminding those in Corinth and to us today that if you think the preaching of the cross is foolishness, then you are going to perish in hell fire. But the preaching of the cross is to those that by faith receive the Lord Jesus Christ into their heart, through the repentance of their sins to the Father, in Jesus name; it then becomes the power of God unto salvation. It is the power of God that through every promise that is in His Word, you and I as sons of God can claim as part of our inheritance. That is the freedom that we have in Christ. That freedom we have in Christ is here and now.

Our power and authority comes from the fact that on the cross at Christ' death, sin was defeated for all time. That death of Christ on the cross is what gives us hope and the security that we have eternal life. Jesus Christ paid the only price that could be paid for sinful man on the face of this earth, and it was with his blood on the cross. It was no accident that this happened, that Judas betrayed Christ and later repented, for every detail of Jesus trial and death, to His resurrection and His ascension into heaven was prophesied throughout the entire Word of God. Isaiah tells us:

Isaiah 53:6 "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all."

When Christ was hauled away, and tried, all over his disciples headed out the gate and to their own ways.

I think that it is exactly what it says. Preaching the cross is the power of God. Today so many preachers, churches get caught up in tangents and let the cross fall to the wayside. We are beings of seeing and hearing, If look or hear something long enough, we began to believe it. The acceptance of homosexuality started in America with a T.V. show called threes company. Where a man pretended to be gay. Now almost every T.V. show has homosexuality in it. We need to be constantly reminded of the work that Jesus did on the cross for it is the power of God.
