I believe this is an important subject that needs to be defined in scripture, understanding and interpitation.
As many today define all love as perfect and justification for any deed or action.
When God's love is infinately different from the world's love.

Ive sought Gods love all of my life, mostly because I learned early in life that the world's love will fail.
The one constant learned, is thats God's love is so much higher than any love we can begin to understand, and it is found in being the least, setting self aside for another.
It is obedient and faithful, rightious and fruitful, holy and trust worthy, made perfect in Jesus.

I thought a good study would be to share scriptures on God's love, and maby try to define it as well. :)
Because, it is so very important that we know the differance between God's love defined, and the worlds love defined.

I plan to share some comments and scriptures later, please share scripture you have that can speak to this. :)

The world tends to love only those who love them. When God takes over he gives you love that you never had before.Even for those who do not like you.

The world's love is not loyal like God's is it can't be trusted man will fail you But God does not.I'f a man or woman is loving God living for him then he or she is capable of giving love that is far beyond any love of the world.

What is messed up to me is remembering how I used to be without God's love in my heart and How I was towards others who crossed me.I was to say the least not loving. We need God to give us his love so we can truly love others and not just our self most of all.He teaches us true love we feel it and want to give it to others.

Hi Pickles, I love this post it is so true we need to be able to recognise the difference between the world's love and god's love.

I grew up watching romantic movies that taught me true love would happen for me if I met my prince, my true love (a man) who would save me and my life would be amazing just like the movies. The only problem was when I first fell in love with a man it did not work out the way I had pictured it or like I had been taught in the movies. LOL

In my thirties I got saved by Jesus, my true prince, love and saviour. Call on the name of the lord and you shall be saved (Romans 10:13). For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Jesus gives me more than I could ever ask or imagine (Ephesians 3-14:21) Thank you Jesus your love is real, honest and truthful you saved me. :) bless you Joy of Lord

Read the Old Testament. I'll give you scripture that a person can meditate on. Just for starters start obeying the concepts of the scriptures. The Word of God defines His love for our fellow man by treating them as He has given us comand in te following.
Leviticus 19:11-18 (KJV)
[SUP]11 [/SUP]Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another.
[SUP]12 [/SUP]And ye shall not swear by my name falsely, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.
[SUP]13 [/SUP]Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbour, neither rob him: the wages of him that is hired shall not abide with thee all night until the morning.
[SUP]14 [/SUP]Thou shalt not curse the deaf, nor put a stumblingblock before the blind, but shalt fear thy God: I am the LORD.
[SUP]15 [/SUP]Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.
[SUP]16 [/SUP]Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour: I am the LORD.
[SUP]17 [/SUP]Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.
[SUP]18 [/SUP]Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.

Deuteronomy 6:1-9 (KJV)
[SUP]1 [/SUP]Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it:
[SUP]2 [/SUP]That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.
[SUP]3 [/SUP]Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.
[SUP]4 [/SUP]Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
[SUP]5 [/SUP]And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
[SUP]6 [/SUP]And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
[SUP]7 [/SUP]And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
[SUP]8 [/SUP]And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
[SUP]9 [/SUP]And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.

God's great love for us motivated Him to adopt us as His children through Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 2:4-5 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

Ephesians 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

1 John 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

Earthly love can fail but God's love for His children never fails.
Romans 8:35-39
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

If you refer to the word Agape it is the pure Will to do the highest good for another free from emotional attatchment. That Agape and Thelema both equal 93 in Greek gematria demonstrates that they are two sides of the same coin. The Will of God is the Love of God and the Love of God is the Will of God. Agape is pure Will to do the highest good for another. This is the great difference in Agape and Phileo.

Yahweh explains in detatil how we are to love in these verses quoted by just me, praise Yahweh He leads His.

Yaaqob 1:26-27, "Religion that is pure and undefiled before Yahweh our Father, is this: To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world."

Galations 5:22-26, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering , kindness, righteousness, The Faith; Meekness temperance such things are not against any Law. And those who are the Messiah's have sacrificed the flesh; the carnal mind, with its passions and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become full of empty pride and ambition, not challenging nor defying one another, not being jealous of one another."

1 Yahchanan 5:2-3, "By this we know that we love the children of Yahweh: When we love Yahweh by keeping His Laws. For this is the love of Yahweh: That we keep His Law, and His Law is not grievous."

Mattithyah 25:35-40, "For I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink, I was a dstranger and you took Me in; I was enaked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.
Then the hrighteous will answer Him, saying; Teacher, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? When did we see You sick, or in prison and come to You? And the King will answer, and say to them; Truly I say to you: When you did this for one of the least of these, My neighbors, you have done this for Me."

The most wonderful love between earthly people gives support for each other, security in each other, many marvelous things when it is a love with God overseeing that love.

The love we have from our Creator gives us so much more. Contentment, satisfaction, self worth, joy, beauty, love for others, patience, pleasure in as little a thing as the color of a leaf in the fall, I could go on and on.

Luke 10:30-37
[SUP]30 [/SUP]In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. [SUP]31 [/SUP]A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. [SUP]32 [/SUP]So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. [SUP]33 [/SUP]But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. [SUP]34 [/SUP]He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. [SUP]35 [/SUP]The next day he took out two denarii[SUP][c][/SUP] and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

[SUP]36 [/SUP]“Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
[SUP]37 [/SUP]The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”

The worlds love is conditional.Gods love is both conditional and unconditional.he showed his unconditional love to the world by his sacrifice but his conditional love is on condition that we accept his sacrifice, repent and are baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and wait to be baptized with the holy ghost which is also Gods seal on us.if people CONTINUALLY REJECT his sacrifice and refuse to repent choosing sin and wickedness then there comes a point where he gives them up.romans 1:18-32.
Another aspect of Gods unconditional love is that he allows good to happen to both beleivers and unbeleivers while they are on earth.he sends his rain on the just and the unjust so even those who end up going to hell will have enjoyed the unconditional love of God in one way shape or form while on earth.

Worldly love CANNOT receive God's love. The World HATES God's Love in HIS holy people!

God says He is Spirit and He is Love.... The world crucified God on a cross. That is what they think of God's love and Spirit!

Pickles my sister God perfects HIS LOVE IN YOU, not in Jesus, IN YOU! Jesus ALWAYS kept the Word of God, it is now our turn to do so!

But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

The WORLD cannot receive the Spirit of truth, but God's disciples does! Because God loved them FIRST. His WORD is truth!

Rom. 5:8
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

1 John 4:9-10
This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Ps. 36:5
Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the skies.

Also, Psalm 136 repeats over and over "His lovingkindness is everlasting."

God's love toward His own is perfect, and forever.
Its ultimate manifestation was made in sending the Lord Jesus to save us while we were still His enemies.

Deuteronomy 6:1-9 (KJV)

Justme, I like that you brought the commandments to this discussion, for many see the commandments as being restrictive.
When in truth, they are a written letter to God's love for us and given to us.
When one trusts and obeys the commandments for Gods love, they is no longer about condmnation or fear, but freedom and peace in God's love.
For perfect love casts out all fear, for fear involves torment.
I know there may be some who question this, and thats ok, for it is in seeking this love from God, that we know and live in His love.

One of my fave scriptures that speaks to this says...
The path of rightousness is like the first gleem of dawn, growing ever brighter till the full light of day!

Many of you posted the same scriptures I planned to, thankyou !

One of the most moving scriptures I read, in fact it healed a brokeness that I had carried for a long time.
was...

I loved you first.

How many times have we asked the question, who will love me first, simply as I am?
We have this love from God Our Father above.

Now I do want to call others here to see the distinction between the world's love and God's love.
Mostly because the world's love has been used alot lately as justification for acceptance of sin.
Im not talking about God's forgiviness, but the world's love as aproval.
How often to we see this impostor of God's love being used to say....
That love is all that matters, or love makes it ok, or why would any deny another's right to love? Now Im speaking not to telling the world what it can do, for the world will be the world.
Im speaking to those in the christian community saying because they love, or because of love the action is justified.
This is not always an easy disernment, for Jesus also showed when love surpassed the law when He walked the earth.
Ive questioned it often myself, when love is used to approve.
And this is where I see the distintion, first love should not be used, but is given from above.
But also, love should never approve sin.
For things of flesh and world are just that, flesh and world.
Scripture says that flesh and blood cannot enter into eternal life.
So this is where I see us finding disernment, for what ever is born of flesh and blood is not made perfect in God's love.
That perfect love is known and made in spirit, by God in Jesus Christ is Lord come in the flesh.
Now I hope Ive spoken to this correctly, :) please correct if I have not. :)
Its just that, in looking to the world, one sees that the wolrd's love is always based in flesh.
When looking to God's love, flesh is overcome for us in Jesus, and all is born again into spirit.
So, this to me is how we can disern.
But please share your thoughts on this. :)

I just see the world's love as death.
God's love as life eternal and perfected in us.

God bless
