I hear Him through His Word, the Bible. I know exactly what He expects of me. So I already know Him from what I have read. I know what I have to do. I don't have to wonder or have any guess work when trying to figure out what moves I have to make in life.

You know this may be off topic but today I was able to read his heart, along with hearing his voice in many ways Including the word @Zone. he sometimes allows me his eyes and other times allows me to read his heart. we were talking on my walk of how he has given me so much in my life and faith and I asked him to allow me to give him what his heart desires.

So what does his heart desire at the deepest part? well when I imagined his heart I saw that even more than glory to himself even though he deserves much glory he just wants his children with him in his arms. He wants all of us Christian and non Christian alike to be with him forever and it pains him that so many refuse. can you imagine the sorrow he has for us who do not wish to be in his loving arms? I felt the sorrow, I saw the pain. I sometimes feel the same way about them too, God's heart and mine sometimes feel and think the same things, this is how I know the pain and sorrow for the lost sheep, just the other day it made me cry too.

You are so right God wants all his children to be with him in his Kingdom to live and be happy with no worries or pain. It be Gods Will

God speaks in many ways. My dog, a black lab named Jack, got sick. He acted became weak, lethargic and kind of acted drunk. I had given him some Rx flea med called Triflexin the day before. So I assumed it was related. It lasted for two days. As he improved I thought it was over but then his face started to swell. His eyes became a small slit he could hardly see thru and his muzzle was huge.

I started to pray for him and suddenly it hit me. I went to the vet office and gave the name of my other dog who had the Rx for the meds but I was going to give it to Jack. It was a small white lie and I never thought twice about it---until I started to pray for Jack.

I repented for lying and being deceptive. 30 mins. later, his eyes looked less swollen shut. 1 hour later his eyes were wide open. This morning I woke up and he is back to normal in every respect. I on the other hand feel a bit stupid. I knew better. I try to be honest and this was a stupid thing for me to do. I won't do it again.

In my experience God does speak into my heart and with images. Prayer is about listening as well as speaking. To hear Him it helps me to:
- be in His will (referring to something He may previously have told me) and making steps of obedience in this regard.
- be quiet and listen. You can ask Him a question and listen, although sometimes there may be no answer, at least not one that you can recognize immediately.
For example, God spoke to me about my personal situation. I promptly took steps towards this and I was blessed by hearing His voice a lot about something else, including visions. What He told me was aligned with my own heart.

When I'm not taking steps of obedience in regard to something He's previously told me, I stop hearing His voice.

I'm currently not taking further steps of obedience because I'm not sure what they should be. Sometimes walking in obedience seems like a drastic move and requires a lot of trust and confidence in God.
I need to reflect on what He's previously told me and make sure I keep stepping in THAT direction.

I'm not an "expert" but this is my experience so far.

I haven't heard God's voice like this since I was first saved. Occasionally I'd hear from Him through a knowing about a song, or something similar. I believe I may have been talking too much in prayer instead of listening, but it may have also been that I had to wait.
He spoke into my heart more recently and I agreed with what He was saying, I was willing and He spoke more. Examples are He asked me a question as a vision with writing and He showed me (as a vision) things that He was doing in a past situation that I wasn't aware of at the time. Now I'm not hearing from Him in the same way, but I'll wait to hear from Him again. There are seasons of waiting.
I'm taking careful note of all He's said recently to make sure I stay in His will as much as possible. All things are possible with God. I'll keep praying.

It does depend. When I turned from giving glory to the material and giving glory only to God, I was told "Everything is going to be just fine."

On one occasion while sharing the Word with a fellow student at the University of Illinois, C-U, I was "given" to say to this lad with a strong southern accetn, his accent that is, "When you return to you hoome, Haifa, say hello to all of your friends for me. He was astounded that I knew he was from Haifa, Israel.

One night in my sleeping bag in the Rockies while using it for sleeping a voice did come to me, and it did sound almost like many waters. The words were, "Now the children of Israel, while they were wantering in the wilderness were disobedient, and by their disobedience salvation was gained by the nations." I understto the implications of these words when they were given me, and it is also in the Word phrased differently, but saying th same.

One time, also in the Rockies, I was in a large resort-like house occupied by a bunch of "hippie types." I was given instructions and a miracle followed.

This also occurred once when I was driving a mail truck, also in the Rockies to wait for someone at a specific place on Peat to Peak Highway and give them a ride to Beaver Road.....

All the above were understood, and easily put into words but only the dream with the voice had a voice. So, you tell me. I believe it was always God, and if and when it occurs again, I will continue to believe it so...

God bless all in Jesus Christ, and all who will come to Him, amen.

God's voice shook me to the core, it was more like thunder in my head. It kinda made me scared. My flesh was flinching, kinda like when i would no a spanking was coming as a kid. It was 2 words, JUST GO. i had an appointment, and i didn't want to go. So i was complaining to Father. Telling Him that i didn't want to go and if He could get me out of it. That's all He said, with no explanation, JUST GO.

A born again Christian hears God's voice because 1)faith comes by hearing, and 2) Jesus said my sheep hear my voice. This doesn't have to a loud definitive voice, but an inward leading via the Holy Spirit.

My Dad told my Mother he heard God audibly calling him to the ministry. My Dad dropped his dreams of being a farmer and became a pastor. My Dad said he never heard an audible voice after that.

I have people say they heard God's voice, and found out it wasn't God (because of what they though God said didn't come true) but only their belief or wishful thinking, and maybe a self gratification motive to prove to themselves or others how religious and anointed of God they are. That said, I think it is very dangerous of us to go around proclaiming we heard an audible voice directly from God, because it possible that it was conjured up by ones vivid imagination. Many faults religions were derived from this sort of thing, and heretical teaching.

I am very cautious of people who claim God spoke directly to them, especially when they say ":God told me to tell you..."...not that God can't work that way, but if wants you to really know or do something, He'll tell you directly. But mostly he talks to use through his Word.
Great post, Bookends . . .

I agree with you that I am also very cautious when someone says - "God told me to do this . . . hence (usually something you must therefore listen to what I have to say)".

I do believe that God does speak to us directly by his Holy Spirit - in fact - I am a strong believer in this - but if God tells me to do or say something - I need to simply go do it! I don't need to go proclaim - "God told me to do this" -- I think this approach easily leads to a mockery of God's name.

When we avail ourselves to God, we will find ourselve doing His will, even to the point of a miracle worked through us as instruments of His will, but there will be no new prophet as there were in times of old excpt those prophesied, the two witnesses. Oh what a glorious day when they are here, for us that is.

Yes I have heard God's voice - one day I was in the dentist's chair, gripping the sides, anxious, scared, knowing the scraping of the teeth would hurt. I heard a gentle but confident male voice, sort of ethereal, say, "It's alright, my Little One, I'll walk you through this" - it was incredible. The pain was tiny, and I relaxed my body.

We have to be very careful in this area for there are spirits that can speak to our mind as if they were God speaking. Generally, we walk by faith and not by sight so we follow God by following His word. Can God actually speak directly to us like one human speaks to another? The answer to that is yes, but in my personal experience it is rare. I am writing of God actually speaking to you in clear words just as I am writing, either directly to the mind(bypassing the physical ear) or maybe even audible. I am not a great Christian at all, yet I have heard God the Father speak directly to my mind bypassing the physical hearing, this was not impressions this was an actual voice...what did He sound like? Like the nicest person in the universe. I have had Jesus talk to me directly three times I can remember off hand. I also have heard the audible voice of the Holy Spirit. I wonder about some of these things and I think about the place where Paul said that God gives more abundant honor to that part that lacks...possibly I am the part that lacked so God did these extra things for me.

We must always be sober minded when sharing the Word and our experience with Jesus in the walk He, Only, has given each of us.
