The fire of the tongue has been used to burn many. Children are told sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me. But that child’s rhyme isn’t really true. The bitter pain of a word spoken against us can hurt us for a lifetime, long after a broken bone has healed.

Proverbs speaks of the person who doesn’t consider the destructive power of his words. Like a madman who throws firebrands, arrows, and death, is the man who deceives his neighbor, and says, “I was only joking!” (Proverbs 26:18-19).

The tongue can lure people to desire things that are not good for them by painting a beautiful picture in their thoughts, and the tongue can turn people heart from desiring one thing to another. It is a very persuasive tool that can change the heart directions.

Genesis 3:4
“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.

Matthew 22:16
They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren't swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are.

Matthew 4:4
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Dear brothers and sisters,[SUP]a[/SUP] not many of you should become teachers in the church, for we who teach will be judged more strictly. 2Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way.

3We can make a large horse go wherever we want by means of a small bit in its mouth. 4And a small rudder makes a huge ship turn wherever the pilot chooses to go, even though the winds are strong. 5In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches.
But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire. 6And the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself.[SUP]b[/SUP]
7People can tame all kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and fish, 8but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison. 9Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God. 10And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right! 11Does a spring of water bubble out with both fresh water and bitter water? 12Does a fig tree produce olives, or a grapevine produce figs? No, and you can’t draw fresh water from a salty spring.[SUP]c[/SUP]

Deut 8:3And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.

So next time you catch me sinning by my mouth, make sure you humble me in front of all to see.

I want to say I hear "life and death is in the power of the tongue" alot of places, yet when I quote verses like this I get brushed off and even laughed at. IF ITS IMPORTANT TO YAHWEH, ITS IMPORTANT.

Isayah 65:15, "And the names of your gods will remain as a trap to My chosen; for Yahweh our Father will slay you, but he will give His servants a Name that will remain forever."

Zephanyah 3:9, "Yes, at that time I will return to the peoples a pure language so that all of them may call on the Name of Yahweh, and serve Him with one accord"

I could speak on at least 20 examples like this I know of, certianly many nore I dont know of but:

Did you know the word cereal comes from the Romans goddess Ceres?

Yeah

"And the names of your gods will remain as a trap to My chosen"

Malacahyah 4:5, "For all people walk each in the gname of his god but we will walk in the Name of Yahweh our Father forever and ever."

That kind of attitude should be a given in a Christian forum such as this one but sadly, it is not such a case. Words destroy the integrity of individuals. Words could be the same as bullying people. Bullying is, obviously, physical contact and many children committed suicide because of it. Christians need to lift people up, not tear them down. To me, this forum really needs to start looking deeper into this fundamental practices a little harder. I see problems that shouldn't even be in here.

Just my view on it!

I couldn't agree more, insults, name calling any kind of verbal attack has power and not any good power. We can all uplift and heal with words of love hope encouragement etc.......But sadly I see quite the opposite.

The power of the tongue holds within it, life and death. Reality is an illusion that we speak into existence. what we say reflects our hearts and thus our world is the way it is.

I say we can bring life to this world, but we hold firmer still to the words of death.

If i am reading into what your saying wrong, forgive me, But Bullying is not only a physical contact where children are committing suicide. There has been cases where kids where being bullied over the internet who took their life. And if this kind of attitude should be a given in a Christian forum, which i agree, then why isn't it? I maybe able to answer that. Because the Bible explains why. James 4:1-3 tells us why these things go on between us.

And that is my view on it!

Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.

James accurately describes strife among Christians with the terms wars and fights. Often, the battles that happen among Christians are bitter and severe.

b. Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? The source of wars and fights among Christians is always the same. There is some root of carnality, an internal war within the believer regarding the lusts of the flesh. No two believers, both walking in the Spirit of God towards each other, can live with wars and fightsamong themselves.

i. “James seems to be bothered more by the selfish spirit and bitterness of the quarrels than by the rights and wrongs of the various viewpoints.” (Moo)

c. The types of desires that lead to conflict are described. Covetousness leads to conflict (you lust and do not have). Anger and animosity lead to conflict (murder).

i. Again, James looks back to the Sermon on the Mount when he uses murder to express more than actual killing, but also as an inward condition of heart, shown outwardly by anger (Matthew 5:21-22).

ii. “The word kill [murder] is startling and meant to startle; James sought to force his readers to realize the depth of the evil in their bitter hatred toward others.

Oh, what prick by the Spirit. I said something yesterday that I was sorry for. My daughter was listening very ungodly music about suicide. So I said if your going to sing and listen to that go downstairs to your house. (thats not what I said that I'm sorry for). That was good Godly, Biblical mom coming out in me however, when she continued not to listen to me I said something I wish I hadn't. HELP ME LORD. Very good topic. We need to keep each accountable. I'm just saying Lord if you have to start putting my words on my skin please do I want to be dead to the flesh.

Romans 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
