A friend of mine sent me this link and I thought it brought up a good point:

What does virtual rumor-mongering say about Christians? http://www.abpnews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4496&Itemid=53

In this article they imply that there's a very old rumor that Procter and Gamble is a Satanist company. I've known many people in my day who would spread that very kind of rumour. Now, they would do so without knowing that it was false, and they'd tell others with only the best of intentions. But, it just woudln't seem to occure to them that they don't know wether or not it's true. And what kind of a Christian doesn't care about truth? I care very much about truth. I don't repeat facts unless I can say what reliable source I got it from. If I don't know, than I make sure I mention that first so the listener or reader knows to take it with a grain of salt. See, to me, I think lying goes beyond intentional deception. Repeating false information that you don't know if false is still harmful. But most of all, when Christians develop a reputation of being gulible, then the rest of society becomes dismissive of Christiantiy. If Christians were known as critical thinkers who like to get their facts straight and value truth, than maybe we'd be taken more seriously.

Most do not think much of Christians. The sad thing is most Christians don't think much of Christians.
God's Word has been twisted so many ways that most people see it as "whatever you want it to
say" and not as God's Holy Word.

Its just human nature to spread a rumor. It is amazing most people will willingly spread a rumor or
lie but have a fear of telling others about the Truth of Christ.

Unfortunately most Christians aren't interested in truth. They like the thought of God blessing them
but would never consider submitting to God's Will. Most Christians I've met are interested in giving
the God they love His 60 minutes on Sunday as they stare at their watch so they aren't late
getting back to their life or the start of the football game.

It is amazing that many say they don't go to church because they are always ask for money. But
energetically go to sports games or movies that they much pay to attend with no complaining at all.

I think a lot of people feel that the money they give to churches isn't being used properly. Either it's going to line the pockets of the preacher, or perhaps being used to build a new gymnasium for the church when it could be going to feed the homeless or something. They will still give money to other charities. And at least when they buy movie or sports tickets they get what they pay for.

Of course some people are just stingy, but what can you do about those?

Exactly. Churches are always asking for money and I haven't seen one church that has given to a poor person in the congregation or one who visits ,we always send them to the salvation army and people like that. When you've already put $50 in the church plate why the heck should the church or anyone then expect you to give $20 to a homeless guy for a meal out of your own pocket? I'd give more to a church if and only if it uses its money properly.

What if the church is the poor? The church I go to used to have 200 people come a week, now they're lucky if they get 40. They still have a big building to pay for, not to mention they have to pay the pastor and custodian. I think it's more important to give an offering at your local church every week than to send it off to a charity you see on TV or the internet. If that's all that people donated there would be no more local churches.
