Please see my previous thread concerning this very dangerous false gospel message which has sadly become very popular:

http://christianchat.com/showthread.php?p=142135#post142135

I want to draw your attention to some more verses that further illustrates that repentance and faith are one and the same:

"I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." Luke 13:3

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16

Luke 13:3 declares that if people repent, they will not perish. John 3:16 declares that if people believe, they will not perish. In other words, repentance and faith are one and the same. Bringing in a previous verse, one will see the reason why many people are condemned ALREADY, because they have not believed on the only begotten Son of God!

"He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." John 3:18

Also note, John 3:18 and Luke 13:3 sound very similar! Luke 13:3 tells us WHY someone will perish(not repenting), and John 3:18 also tells us WHY someone will perish(not believing-logically following John 3:16). Please dont ever let a preacher fool you into thinking repentance means "making Jesus Lord of your life", to "stop sinful habits", etc....That is a guaranteed road to hell for any unsuspecting souls. I say this with great sadness, because the devil has TRICKED much of the church into teaching this lie. The gospel is simple(2 Corinthians 11:3) not complicated. Salvation is as simple as looking, walking through a door, drinking water, taking something, etc:

"Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else." Isaiah 45:2

"They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all." Luke 17:27

"I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture." John 10:9

"But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life." John 4:14

"And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely." Revelation 22:17

These verses above show the simplicity of the gospel. Christ already did all the work necessary for salvation. There is ONLY one gospel taught in the Word of God. In fact, the Bible warns about "another gospel" and "another Jesus"(see 2 Corinthians 11:3-4) which will lead people into the lake of fire.

"I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed." Galatians 1:6-9

Lordship salvation is a very subtle false doctrine. I think of it like rat poison. It looks/smells good and has mostly good food, but there is just enough poison to kill the victim! Lordship salvation is a deadly teaching that must be warned against! It is a wicked vile lie perpetuated by the devil which will send people to hell!

"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." Matthew 7:21-23

The deadly pitfall of these people in Matthew 7:21-23 was that they believed another gospel by NOT doing the will of the Father. Another gospel that mixed in self righteousness!(ie:Lordship salvation) These people failed to understand Galatians 2:16; 2:21; 3:1-3, Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 11:6, Titus 3:5, etc....An example that faith cannot be mixed with works for salvation:

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9

"And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work." Romans 11:6

Doing the "will of the Father" cannot be mixed with self righteousness. "And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day." John 6:40.

Eternal life is a free gift(Romans 5:15, 6:23), freely offered(Romans 10:13), and freely received(Revelation 22:17). Lordship salvation is a false gospel which has been perpetuated by many false teachers today. In the Word, false teachers/prophets are described as ministers of satan, disguised as ministers of righteousness(2 Corinthians 11:12-15), wolves in sheep's clothing(Matthew 7:15). They have wrestled the Scriptures to their own destruction(2 Peter 3:16).

If you have believed Lordship salvation, I pray you will be awakened to this corrupt gospel, and would trust ONLY on Christ to save you. To those who understand the evil of Lordship salvation, if you know of any preacher, teacher, prophet, etc....who is teaching Lordship salvation, please warn them about it! Get rid of all gospel tracts, materials, etc that teach Lordship salvation! Please take a stand for our wonderful Savior! ~rk

While I agree that it is not a lost man's strivings to be good will get him saved is true. All men are commanded to repent and believe, can a lost man do this by himself? No. At the hearing of the gospel God convicts a man's heart of sin. Man realises his wickedness and that he has sinned against a Holy God. In a sense, he sees his own life through God's eyes. As the Holy Spirit testifies to the goodness of God and the own man's evil he repents. Now I don't believe repenting means saying ok, I need to straighten my act up, many through misunderstanding do this to their own destruction and have not done the will of God,for they have not called on the name of the Lord to save them, instead relying on their own good works. Repentance is a changing of the mind, a turning away from, of sin.

Now to call on the name of the Lord, what does that mean? What is He saving you from? God saves you from yourself. He puts His spirit in you and makes you His own.

Every tree that bears bad fruit is cut down and cast into the fire.

God doesn't have mercy on a sinner that He may continue in his sins. Those that are His He breaks them of their sin, to be made into the image of His Son. This He does for His name sake. I don't know if you meant to imply this but the title makes it sound like we are saving people which is not the case. God saves, and His salvation poured out on a man changes this man.

A person can have a belief in Jesus and not be saved because they refuse to repent, you can't love the light and the darkness. If you love the things of the world, lusts of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, the pride of life, then the love of the Father is not in you.

Not all who confess with their lips shall be saved, but those that do the will of the father in heaven shall be(repent).

Bottom line is, a true believer is God's workmanship. God is the one that produces the fruit in our lives, not us.

Look in 1John to see if your in the faith. Anyone is Christ is a new creature, and with patience will bear good fruit. If a man has a new relationship with God then he will also have a new relationship with sin.

If you asked Jesus in your heart and didn't notice a difference in your life with relation to sin(a sensitivity) you need to repent and believe in God, call out for Him to save you from yourself.

Repentance and Belief are NOT the same thing.

Your texts merely establish that BOTH are necessary conditions. Neither is a sufficient condition of itself.

If I said the breaker box switch must be on for the light bulb to burn and then also said that the wall switch must be on for the light bulb to burn, this does not mean that they are the same switch. It establishes that both are essential.

Yes apparently teaching repentance before or separately to belief makes things "too complicated" for the original poster lol. It doesn't really matter.
