I do not drink at all for multiple reasons. The biggest is that I was an alcoholic and I really was totally delivered from that lifestyle when God saved me. I owe it to the grace of God that I am in such a good place - I would never chance it.

I also have severe liver problems from all the drugs I take for Rheumatoid Arthritis, so I cannot medically take it.

I also do not want anyone to stumble because of me drinking.

As for the Bible, I did a Word study on drinking. In the Old Testament, there are two words in Hebrew for wine. One is the alcoholic beverage, the other is grape juice. I found out that in every place but one, the grape juice was associated with the joy of the Lord. The alcoholic beverage is always described in negative terms, esp. drunkenness and immortality. The New Testament does not have this distinction in Greek, as there is only one word for the the fruit of the vine.

But I would not judge someone on their choice to occasionally drink socially, though! That is between them and God.

I don't think we should because we are instructed to remain sober minded.
Also there are so many sins and deaths that are linked to alcohol consumption and I believe as Christians we should live to a higher standard.
im sure there will be those who use the fact that Jesus turned water into wine as an excuse to get drunk but the alcohol content of wine in Jesus day was very little.
Then there are those who say there is nothing wrong with one beer but that's how alcoholism addiction starts.

1 Peter 5:8 - Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

Titus 2:12 - Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

1 Peter 4:7 - But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.

2 Timothy 3:16 - All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Ephesians 5:18 - And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

1 Peter 1:13 - Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

1 Timothy 3:2 - A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

Titus 2:6 - Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.

They often quote this verse to justify there drinking

1Timothy 5
23 Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities.

Will like to hear what you all think

I don’t advise drinking. Satan uses it to enslave and destroy people's lives. Alcoholism is way too prevalent so I think it’s wise to stay away from it altogether.

[h=3]Proverbs 20[/h]King James Version (KJV)

1Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

I, too, do not think drinking alcohol is okay. I agree with the others who say so, too, and their reasons, some of which are my reasons as well. Mainly, I believe that if a 'stronger' Christian drinks and can stop after one or two drinks, there is a danger that a delivered alcoholic will see this and think, "Hmmm, I can drink, too, then." And, though they start fine, they are quickly bound up again.

Alcohol abuse also has destroyed many marriages and lives. I've seen this first hand. Why support such a thing?

It also is good to consider that alcohol is often called 'spirits', and I don't believe that is accidental.

It is easy to do anything sinful or damaging in moderation...in the beginning. That is how all of our rebellion starts...with moderation...and then next thing we know, we are bound in the sinful habits. It is better to abstain from alcohol altogether, IMHO.

The key phrase in that verse is 'whosoever is deceived thereby'. Wine and strong drink are not a problem with people who know how to be moderate.

By this logic you can justify just about anything. I can do anything in moderation. Do the deceived know they are deceived? Nope. So, how do you know if you're deceived while approving of alcohol consumption in your life and in others?

This is definitely a potential problem to be aware of, and a good reason to be very careful how one indulges in one's liberties.

It is fine to drink. The sin is when drinking get to excess.

Many Christians today make the same mistake the jews did by adding to Gods laws things which are not there.

If you have a conviction to not drink then so be it, if you are fine with having a one or two drinks, then so be it. Obviously drunkenness is another issue. Personally, I don't drink, I like to use it as a testimony to glorify Jesus, though I don't mind a small glass of wine once in a blue moon and the occasional non alcoholic beer.

All things are pure to the pure. As long as I'm not hurting anyone or myself, why is it sin? I don't approve of alcohol consumption in anyone's life but my own. That is their own decision to make. And I don't disapprove of alcohol consumption in anyone's life unless I see it harming them.

I agree with you. Wine, as well as food, can be devastating for us if we don`t have the right measure, but that doesn`t make the wine itself bad.

Also, we need to be aware of our brothers and sisters around us, we cannot allow them to be tempted or caused to stumble by the things we do, like drinking. If I were a social drinker, I would probably ask if anyone has a problem with my one or two drinks, if so it would be up to me to act out of love and deny myself that drink

In the same token, We should not put the law of not drinking to a non believer. I have had a few drinks with many (I do not drink alone, only with someone else who wants one every now and then) many of them are now in church and some have accepted Christ.

If you do not want to drink alcohol, do not drink it.
That's your business.
The is no Scripture that forbids it.
Jesus Himself produced and consumed it.
Some of us choose to consume it responsibly and within the law.
That's our business.
Drinking a beer right now and getting ready to watch Denver at Indy.
