I don't celebrate Halloween, but I used to. I loved dressing up. :) God showed me that since I'm a photographer, I could, ultimately, dress up any time for photo shoots...so there you go. Since that was the only reason I 'celebrated' Halloween, I have no reason to anymore.

I also don't judge those that do celebrate. I just choose not to participate. My church is having a Trunk-or-Treat and Carnival tonight. I won't be there, but many others will. Does that make my church wrong? I don't think so. :) I like your view on this, jb800m. We do have the choice, in regards to Halloween, if we partake or not.

The holiday itself is of the devil, but that doesn't mean those that participate are demonic. I stated the reasons why I don't agree with Halloween above, but I thought, upon reading some responses, that I just wanted to make it clear that I don't look down on anyone that chooses to participate in trick-or-treating or carnivals and such. :)

Have a safe night!

It is up to you to instill values into your children and you, as parents, can decide if your children participate in the holiday or not, however, they shouldn't joke about calling anyone anything. How is that going to win people to Christ? And, allowing them to joke with it and excuse it is setting them up to become judgmental and harsh, especially if they do, in fact, yell names at people in any situation.
Don't worry myst, we've been quick to stop that right away. You're right, it's not appropriate for a 5 year old girl to do it.

(It's still a little funny though!)

People can choose to do evil stuff on this day, as well as any other...I won't go as far as to say the day is evil, but thank goodness my boys are all older and I don't have to pound the pavement with them anymore... yes I am the mean house that does not pass out candy...I now accept your egg throwing...

We don't celebrate Halloween in the Netherlands, but I'm still gonna say:

let's egg Apostel2013's house!

(amen & amen!)
Anything to take a shot at a KJV-Onlyist... I bet he'd really think supporters of modern translations are spawns of the devil then! :p

I don't endorse the behaviour of calling names but on the other hand His people is not won by Christian behaviour but by HIS POWER. If we could affect the end result we would be mightier HIM. We are not.

We are supposed to be like Christ, thus telling us that our behavior does, in fact, matter. How many people have said that the meanest people they've met have been in church? Truly. We are called to be set apart and to set an example. Who would want to meet Christ if we call people names and act like jerks? You can get that without going to church, why bother going to church? Behavior matters. I didn't say that salvation comes by our behavior, I said we are to win people to Christ with our behavior, which most will agree is true.

well the good Lord had said Rev 22:11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.
Rev 22:12
And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

Rev 22:13
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
Rev 22:14
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Rev 22:15
For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.
Rev 22:16
I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
Mat 7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
Mat 7:18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
Mat 7:19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Mat 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
Mat 7:21
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
Mat 3:8
Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:
Mat 3:9
And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
Mat 3:10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire
.
Joh 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
Joh 8:37 I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.
Joh 8:38 I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.
Joh 8:39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.
Joh 8:40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.
Joh 8:41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.
Joh 8:42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
Joh 8:43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
Joh 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
Joh 8:45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
Joh 8:46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?
Joh 8:47 He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
If we receive God"s word we are His not just by mere words , but by the right type of faith the faith abraham had when he followed after God or the faith of abel that he pleased God and offered a better sacrifice they all took leaps of faith of the kind that God wanted for them to believe that He is . And joseph by faith raised not his hand against his master in egypt with the masters wife but feared displeasing God , instead let our faith be solid in good standing and let God reign over our lives through God's Holy righteousness in the light of the Spirit.

the only thing i can say is the way i chose to live my life is the truth but it is up to the individual to take heed and discern if it is right but the only , gospel i preached is the Lord crucified for it is Our power our strenghth by that atonement we are saved and know he is seated on the right hand of the Father and we know when we are raised up in the last days we will see Him for who he is and all that had this hope will purify themselves not our own intelect by our own power for we have none to save ourselves but in jesus christ Our Lord AMEN.....

That's a little too Hitler-ish to me. I may be wrong, but, yeah.

Yes. It is a good church that I currently attend. I used to attend a very unforgiving and legalistic church, which was good for my foundational beginning, but I knew nothing about loving like Christ loves, so this is a good place for me. :)
